Posted December 23, 20213 yr The Official Christmas Chart on Radio 1 was announced on this date in 2001 back when of course the chart used to be on a Sunday. I've linked a Mixcloud of the chart presented by Mark Goodier below. Admittedly I didn't listen to Radio 1 back then as I was mainly listening to Neil Fox and the Pepsi chart instead but from listening to this one last week I managed to hear some songs that I wouldn't have even heard in 2001 lol. Anyway here's the link and the top 40 below. 20 Years since Robbie and Nicole took reign as the Christmas #1! https://www.mixcloud.com/StephenTheRadioKid...odier-23122001/ TOP 40 P LW WOC Artist & Song 1 1 2 Robbie Williams Ft Nicole Kidman - Somethin' Stupid 2 X 1 Gordon Haskell - How Wonderful You Are 3 2 4 Daniel Bedingfield - Gotta Get Thru This 4 3 3 Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Murder On The Dancefloor 5 4 3 Stereophonics - Handbags & Gladrags 6 7 5 S Club 7 - Have You Ever 7 5 2 Ian Van Dahl - Will I 8 6 2 Samantha Mumba - Lately 9 9 3 The Tweenies - I Believe In Christmas 10 10 3 Hermes House Band - Country Roads 11 11 4 Kate Winslet - What If 12 8 4 PPK - Resurrection 13 24 15 DJ Otzi - Hey Baby 14 21 14 Kylie Minogue - Can't Get You Out Of My Head 15 14 3 Steps - Words Are Not Enough/I Know Him So Well 16 12 2 Feeder - Just A Day EP 17 16 3 Sum 41 - In Too Deep 18 26 10 Afroman - Because I Got High 19 13 2 Janet Jackson Ft Carly Simon - Son Of A Gun (I Betcha Think This Song) 20 17 5 Riva Ft Danni Minogue - Who Do You Love (Stringer) 21 23 6 Blue - If You Come Back 22 15 2 Kosheen - Catch 23 19 4 Hear'Say - Everybody 24 18 3 Cliff Richard - Somewhere Over The Rainbow/ What A Wonderful World 25 22 7 Westlife - Queen Of My Heart 26 X 1 David Gray - Say Hello, Wave Goodbye 27 28 4 Alcazar - Crying On The Discoteque 28 27 5 DJ Otzi - Do Wah Diddy 29 X 1 Faithless - Tarantula 30 32 6 Destiny's Child - Emotion 31 31 8 Jennifer Lopez - I'm Real 32 X 1 Mariah Carey Ft Mystikal - Never Too Far/Don't Stop Funkin 4 33 34 4 Basement Jaxx - Where's Your Head At 34 20 2 Emma Bunton - We're Not Gonna Sleep Tonight 35 30 4 Geri Halliwell - Calling 36 37 8 Iio - Rapture 37 35 4 Oxide & Neutrino - Rap Dis / Only Wanna Know U Cos Ure 38 38 5 Anastacia - Paid My Dues 39 33 3 Liberty - Doin It 40 X 1 Warp Brothers - Blast The Speakers Edited December 23, 20231 yr by Rockin Roba

December 23, 20213 yr Omg a Christmas chart *.* Such a festive feeling in that top 40, I remember listening to that one, I’d just been to see the Fellowship Of The Ring that afternoon and was loving this chart and felt properly ready for Christmas at this point. No matter how many Christmas songs fill the charts these days, they’ll never feel the same way they used to.
December 23, 20213 yr Yeh if anything the charts are too packed these days so you can’t pick out the newer Xmas songs. Did love Kate Winslets effort. Was Gordon Haskell a radio 2 push or was he C Listed on radio 1 at the time?
December 23, 20213 yr "Something Stupid" is my second favourite Christmas # 1 in UK, only behind "Save Your Love".
December 23, 20213 yr Why did I think that Kosheen 'Catch' was a Top 10 hit!!! It certainly felt bigger than #15 peak!!!

December 23, 20213 yr I didn’t know Gordon Haskell was a contender until my grandparents told me about it. Definitely a Radio 2 push.
December 23, 20213 yr Why did I think that Kosheen 'Catch' was a Top 10 hit!!! It certainly felt bigger than #15 peak!!! 'Catch' is great. I also really like Kosheen's 2003 more indie based top 10 hit 'All In My Head', which I remember a lot from the time. Did love Kate Winslet's effort. 'What If' I remember a lot from the time. It is a beautiful song! Edited December 23, 20213 yr by Snakin' Stevens
December 31, 20213 yr Why did I think that Kosheen 'Catch' was a Top 10 hit!!! It certainly felt bigger than #15 peak!!! “Catch” was brilliant - it was the Christmas Number 1 for me on my personal chart in 2001. I unfortunately cannot remember at all what else was in the Top 10 because my Dad chucked away my old personal charts pre-2004 when I used to write them down on notepaper, which I was pretty sad about as I like looking back - it's almost like keeping a diary but with music and certain songs bring back certain memories.. but I know that Basement Jaxx (34) had been #1 earlier in December. I used to buy all of my #1 singles on CD and logged them so I at least have them all complete thankfully. I think the single artwork to “Catch” had a reindeer on it or something so it felt Christmas-like to me. : )
December 31, 20213 yr Catch is a great song but I’ll never be able to unhear her shouting ‘cat shit!!
December 31, 20213 yr 2001 was a brilliant year for pop music. The battle for Christmas #1 felt a little flat - not so much in quality but in sales compared to the year before when there was Bob the Builder, Westlife and Eminem. But still a great chart.
January 4, 20223 yr Wasn't that Gordon Haskell song the most requested in the history of R2 or something? I hated it when dance acts released great tracks in mid Dec, like Faithless or Kosheen here, they always got lost an never revamped in Jan

December 23, 20231 yr Author Bringing this up to reminisce on two years later the 2001 Christmas chart being covered in today's Pick of the pops! and then here's some mixcloud links for the following two Christmas chart years that followed ^_^ (will likely add a ranking of the top 10's later x) https://www.mixcloud.com/Brigham27/bbc-radi...-december-2002/ https://www.mixcloud.com/duffymp/httpswwwmi...-november-2003/
December 27, 20231 yr One more points about the Christmas charts then a lot of big older hits always rose in December which is the only time they normally rose in this era!
December 29, 20231 yr Some really good songs in the top 10 there. Gotta Get Thru This & Murder On The Dancefloor in particular.
