February 26, 20224 yr Author A great track, the back to back hit of DYRTFT? and Pink Glove is my favourite part of the His n Hers album  I love every track on His N Hers, no duff moments! It took me YEARS to work out what a Pink Glove was :(
February 26, 20224 yr I think I was (am) too naive too, thought it was just a pink glove literally :D DYRTFT is Pulp at their bestest but I actually prefer Babies
February 27, 20224 yr Brilliant song! I don't believe I've ever seen the video before though, I feel like I've now got vertigo!
February 27, 20224 yr Between 1992 and 1995 Pulp were on fire (I'm aware of the irony here) and DYRTFT was among their finest moments.
February 27, 20224 yr I've had to face the fact that while I totally admire and respect Pulp, they never really gripped my attention like Blue or Suede did.. It baffles me because I really should have been obsessed by them in 1994l95. Edited February 27, 20224 yr by Colm
February 27, 20224 yr Yay Pulp! :cheer: I also like Blue Suede. That cover of Hooked On a Feeling was great. (Sorry, that typo gave me an obscure gag to throw in, I find it hard to refuse cheap opportunities  )
February 27, 20224 yr wait,I was now checking Pulp discography... their debut album came out in 83!!!??!! and they had 3 albums before His n hers? guess Im a very very bad fan cos I'm not sure I knew that :D well I'm aware they had some compilation of early material out in 96 but didn't think it was 3 albums :D
February 27, 20224 yr Author Yeah, they had been around for years before making it! Fire records (hence Severins pun).
February 27, 20224 yr Author 8. Manic Street Preachers – A Design For Life Release: 1996 Chart Peak: 2 'Libraries gave us power, then work came and made us free' is one of the best opening lines of the 90s. A Design For Life was the first song written and released after the disappearance of Richey Edwards in 1995 and has strong themes of class conflict and identity (as often is with the Manics). It was their highest charting single to date and is their best known song to this day (possibly, along with "if You Tolerate This...). Its yet another classic non-number 1 for Britpop, but the best songs all got to number 2 in the 90s :P A lush string leaden epic song and another enduring 90s classic. TfEoVxy7VDQ
February 27, 20224 yr Another classic there Jester, great pick. By 1996 it really felt like there was a classic indie single released virtually every week
February 27, 20224 yr  Grand, epic etc. I love his gravelly vocal tone in the parts where the title is repeated.
February 27, 20224 yr LOVE A Design for Life  beautiful strings and very hard-hitting lyrics as they were always known for. I did actually prefer If You Tolerate This... but there wasn't much in it.
February 27, 20224 yr this is the best Manics single for me and a travesty it got stuck at #2 the whole album is great too... I would also place this much higher, top 5 for certain Edited February 27, 20224 yr by Bjork
February 27, 20224 yr 9. Pulp – Do You Remember The First Time? My fave so far ! The shimmering guitars in this and just the whole soundscape of this give me such youthful 1990s optimism vibes. Also, the lyrics are so Pulp: 'Still you've bought a toy that can reach the places he never goes...' I think it neatly & perfectly captures the feelings and excitement of falling in (and out of) love for the first time.
February 27, 20224 yr That Manics song was one of the first songs ever that I remember really liking. I heard it a lot on music channels in the late 90s. It was the dramatic orchestral production that I liked I think!
February 27, 20224 yr I cried the first time I saw them do A Design for Life live. The strings from 3.14 onwards were overwhelming.
February 27, 20224 yr A Design For Life is an elegantly beautiful affirmation of defiance in the face of prejudice and dismissal. It's a perfect record even if it is open to misinterpretation. WTF was the country thinking by putting Mark Morrison at number one?,
