At least boring singer-songwriters write their own stuff as opposed to dance music who cannot write a song even if their life depends on it

and always have to do silly idiotic covers :) chest la vie :)

Absolutely no need to be so incredibly rude to somebody for no reason like that.

Seriously, have a long think about how you conduct yourself.

I was just defending singing songwriters being as usual mis-labelled as boring by fans of dance music, no need to rethink anything t be honest

Anyway not even sure this Lauren is a singer-songwriter

The Weekend tracks starting to show up on Apple:

90 Dawn FM

107 Gasoline

132 How Do I Make you love me

136 Sacrifice

guess Sacrifice is having the big push on Apple like it has on Spotify

in other news this Lone Ranger song is now top 40 on Spotify.

it’s a track from an under 18s drill cypher that’s seemingly got viral cos one of them has a very strong accent

NMF UK wasn’t updated last week, so this is the first week with their song on the playlist.

Are you sure? As it was top of the list when I looked last week?

100% that the New Music Friday UK playlist wasn't updated last week, it even had a banner saying 'returns 7th January'. The international playlists were updated, however.

Softcore up to #102, The Neighbourhood getting a 3rd hit! :deadbanana: (probably could've picked a better song tho, Devil's Advocate is right there)

6 months ago and it still would have been on SCR! (hopefully it can get a reset)

Drake has a feature on the new Gunna mixtape out on Friday. Wasting no time in getting that first new 'hit' of 2022 much to BuzzJack's delight (although I don't think it'll chart particularly high, maybe unless it's pushed as a single).

...or not, because the mixtape has dropped with the announced Drake track conspicuously absent from the tracklist  this is the third time this has happened in the span of five months, the last albums by Trippie Redd and French Montana both also had announced tracklists with a song featuring Drake which then failed to actually materialise on the album release. (The Trippie/Drake song was added to the album a couple of days later but the French one was just never released at all, guess we'll see soon which way this Gunna song goes)

Anyhow, definitely looks like Lauren Spencer-Smith has a good chance at #1 this week then, especially with her getting off to a really strong start on Amazon as well which is much harder to do than on other platforms. I can't say I'm that excited to hear the song if the Mimi Webb comparison is anything to go by but I remember 'drivers license' got pretty mixed reviews on BuzzJack when it first dropped too and I ended up loving that so shall not judge until I hear it x Interesting that this is two years in a row kicking off with a massive hit by a previously little known female singer (I know Olivia was more well-known than Lauren is but still both largely newcomers as far as mainstream music goes).

Basically the exact same way the A92 Plugged In blew up then.

Album bombs on Apple:

The Weeknd - Dawn FM

31 Dawn FM

39 Gasoline

51 Sacrifice

53 How Do I Make You Love Me?

94 + 113 Take My Breath - presuming the second version will disappear soon

95 Out Of Time

103 Here We Go... Again (feat. Tyler, The Creator)

120 Best Friends

126 Is There Someone Else?

128 A Tale By Quincy

165 Starry Eyes

Gunna - DS4EVER

38 pushin P (w/ Future feat. Young Thug)

44 private island

65 poochie gown

70 mop (feat. Young Thug)

74 thought i was playing (w/ 21 Savage)

83 how you did that (feat. Kodak Black)

101 alotta cake

108 25k jacket (feat. Lil Baby)

123 livin wild

149 you & me (w/ Chlöe)

164 south to west

Both have several tracks that haven't entered the top 200 yet (5 from The Weeknd, 8 from Gunna).

The only other charting new release so far is Central Cee - Retail Therapy at #118. Lauren Spencer-Smith is at #4.

Gunna is dominating US Apple Music, holding the entire top 5 and 12 of the top 15. The Weeknd's highest song at #17 so far. He should do better than Gunna on Spotify though I assume.

That may be the case for commercial mainstream dance music that the big playlists push, but not for dance music in general. There are a lot really talented dance and electronic producers (females in particular) around at the moment who produce, perform vocals, write lyrics, direct their own music videos etc and make really inspired and credible dance music.

Just seen PinkPantheress seems to have got a pretty decent bump presumably from her Sound of 2022 win with 'Pain' and 'Just for me' re-entering at #86 and #149 respectively on Spotify.

Kodak Black - Super Gremlin also cracking the Spotify top 200 for the first time at #191.

The Weeknd now with 3 songs in the top 20 and 7 top 40. 7 songs top 40 for Gunna too which is quite impressive, didn’t think he was that big of a name here

Never heard of Gunna until now.

I am hoping his real name gets mentioned too on next week's chart commentary!

He’s featured on 2020’s #1 ‘Lemonade’ by Internet Money if you remember that ;)

Its very crazy sounding in terms of rap flow, reminds me of Pow by Lethal Bizzle but with more low-key, and less interesting imo, production.

Oh I quite liked that song melodically, apart from the drug references in it of course.
