Britain's Andy Murray and Dan Evans reached the Sydney Tennis Classic semi-finals by winning their last-eight matches on Thursday.

Murray progressed when David Goffin retired with a knee problem after the Scot had won the first set 6-2.

The former world number one, 34, was joined by Englishman Evans, who beat American Maxime Cressy 6-4 7-6 (7-5).

Murray will play another American, Reilly Opelka, on Friday with Evans taking on top seed Aslan Karatsev.

That'll just be the bookies covering themselves in case he can play. See Medvedev has almost the same odds which would never ever be the case in any normal scenario.

Being watching Nadal playing and even though he won last week he's far from his best

I could totally see an early round loss or even a retirement for injury but really cannot see him going all the way

Badosa is my new favourite, watched her this morning and she played an incredible tennis to reach the final in Sydney

When are we gonna know for sure?

Paula Badosa won Sydney, amazing fina

Shes now up to @6 in the ranking

Good. Not sure if his three year exclusion will be waived but his life just got a hella lot harder coz a deportation on your record makes getting visas, if you’re a normal person, basically impossible.

He should have just stfu, got some education and gotten the damn vaccine

Coz questions that weren’t asked is how’d he expect to play if he hadn’t got that very conveniently timed infection? Why was he admitted with an infection past the alleged cut off for medical exemptions??

finally! never should have lasted this long though...

I think you also need to be vaccinated to enter the US, so that would mean no US tournaments and no US Open, same for Wimbledon I guess?

He should be able to play at Wimbledon as I think it’s just the normal process we’ve been used to recently (negative lateral flow, book a PCR for two days after and quarantine until then etc)?

At last the end to this rather sorry saga ,that shouldn't have ever have been dragged out this long but at least sanity has prevailed

This was quite the popcorn drama to start the year, the right decision has been made though, I really can't see any reason why he would be medically exempt and his actions after testing positive makes clear how seriously he's taking it.

While I'm sure he'll still be able to play at some tournaments this year, I can't see how his image will be repaired from this, he would've lost so much respect from just about everyone (apart from anti-vaxxers ofc. x)

This is a man who claims that holding a slice of bread can show if you are gluten intolerant.

The whole saga could have been avoided if they'd have just mandated him to do hotel quarantine upon arrival. Did it for everyone last year and then there'd be no risk of "public health crisis" as they rather comically put it.

Or yeah he could have got the jabs too but if he's against that then the best thing would have been to just do what Sandgren did and not even turn up. Even so, why the hell did they grant him a visa/exemption in the first place?

One thing's for sure this past 2 weeks was more entertaining than actual tournament will be!
