Disagree. They aren’t above the law. If they misrepresented their status that’s not Australia’s fault. And it’s not Australia’s fault if they were given incorrect information by the organisers as to what was acceptable as a medical exemption. The federal law is clear and they do not give exceptions to anyone

 

If you’re arrogant enough to travel without properly checking the requirements of the country you’re going to then it’s on your head when you get turfed out. Note that the Czech gov already confirmed their athlete will be coming home and isn’t appealing. They got caught out and accepted it. Only Novax is arrogant enough to think the world should revolve around his antiscience bullshittery.

Yeah I can see why they’d cancel his visa and deport him. That suggests his exemption paperwork was fake and thus he applied for his visa under false pretences. That’s a three year exclusion period

Surely the best thing for him/his lawyers to do would just to be honest? Every time there's a piece of information 'twisted' or just lied about there'll always be a chance that other information will contradict it and the situation will only get worse. The best thing for him to do would be to accept he's made a mistake and allow himself to be sent home.

Was always clear the the prior infection was likely faked. The timing is way too convinent and seems even if he did have an infection, he was not self isolating and galovanting around Serbia. So even if it is true, he's a proper bellend.

This gets better by the day.

Novax won on a technicality after it looks like a negotiation with the federal government (they were supposed to give him until x time to respond to the cancellation and then cancelled the visa 45 mins ahead of their self imposed deadline) but Aus has indicated it might use ministerial powers to extraordinarily cancel the visa which would trigger another court case regarding the automatic 3 year exclusion period it would put on Novax

Apparently he's now been formally arrested and about to be deported, the government have raised the stakes!

As expected then, the government has cancelled his visa extraordinarily. That’s an automatic exclusion period imposed so no Aus Open appearances for 3 years if the auto exclusion isn’t waived. And he gonna have a real tough time getting into places like the US with a visa cancellation on his record

Djokovic has now admitted to breaking isolation whilst positive with Covid. Granted he probably didn't have any other options, but good on him for being honest.

 

The news articles don't seem to be agreeing on much at the moment though - some are saying he'll find out his fate tomorrow, some are saying he'll definitely be deported, some are saying he might go to jail... I guess we'll find out the outcome soon enough.

Not sure it’s „good on him“ when he was literally cornered and presented with evidence he freely put out into the world. What else would he do? Double down BoJo style?

Yeah the more information that's coming out about this saga the more I'm swaying against Djokovic.

 

He's basically between a rock and hard place now. Either he did genuinely test positive on Dec 16th then went to all these events which is a very bad look. OR he was never actually positive at all and it was a fake result. Like Rooney said earlier it's way too convenient a timing and also pretty much every elite sportsperson makes the news if they get a positive test yet we heard nothing about Djok on Dec 16th itself?

 

No chance he goes to jail but I'd be less surprised if they ban him from the tournament now.

Yeah that thread above makes a good case for the positive one being „problematic“ to say the least. Or at least he wasn’t as positive as early as suggested. It’s all very weird and a doctored certificate would be easy for someone of his wealth to obtain in Serbia - noting that I get this understanding from a Serbian I work with
