Posted January 1, 20223 yr As it's the start of a New Year, I thought I'd create a 2022 thread where all you gym and fitness freaks can discuss how you keep in shape and give each other diet and workout advice! Do you prefer sports or running to keep yourselves in shape!?
January 1, 20223 yr My sister has been going to the gym 3-4 times a week since coming home to help her with her rowing... I have not been inspired to go along with her. I'll be sticking to walking to keep my fitness up!
January 1, 20223 yr I go to the gym 4-5 times a week, but decided this year I'm going to consciously eat more to get bigger. I am in semi-decent shape, but I find I eat less and certainly consume less protein pre-pandemic due to home working. I don't want to go back to having 2x protein shakes a day though. I also started doing more walking last year, I try and do a minimum of 6,000 steps a day too. Much harder working from home to get those steps in, even worse in the winter with the cold, wet & dark.
January 1, 20223 yr I've been advised not to exercise for a month following my otoplasty operation, nearly at the end of that road now thankfully. I'm desperate to get back to it for mental health reasons and following Christmas indulgence! I love going for a run, usually about 4 times a week, plus I started going to clubbercise classes last year once a week which is good fun
January 3, 20223 yr Got an exercise bike in the garage. Slowly building up my strength on that with so many reps a session per day.
January 3, 20223 yr I bought a Peloton before Xmas so my aim is to do a workout a day every day this year. Will be tough when I’m away but I have the app too I can use to do stretching or yoga that doesn’t really need any kit and I can do in a hotel room. I like the class and having something at home is easier for me to get Into the swing of it and actually do it. Have a gym plan too for some weights that I wanna build in as well. 2022 will be the fittest ive been since I stopped swimming

I've heard a lot of people mentioning Peloton but don't know too much about it, is the idea that there are recorded fitness classes you can follow while on the bike?
January 19, 20223 yr Sounds like quite a plan! I've heard a lot of people mentioning Peloton but don't know too much about it, is the idea that there are recorded fitness classes you can follow while on the bike? Yeah so they have like two options. You either just use their App or you combine it with an item of kit from them. Their app has a bunch of classes on it, like any online gym class platform (Apple Fitness+ for example or Cyberobics from RSG Group) you have some guided classes. Peloton has some boxing classes, some strength work and core work, meditation and yoga plus stretching. But their core class offering revolves around their products. They have running classes for the Tread but also outdoor guided walks and runs too if you wanna leave the house. Then they have the bike classes that all run around their spin bike. Now you can use other bikes I believe and just use the app but the two are made to work together. Both bike and tread classes have a „Bootcamp“ option where they combine strength and core work with the standard workout. Im still exploring it all but it’s pretty cool. So far I’ve kept up with And and done something every day of the year (except today which I’m about to rectify now) The kit is expensive though. I got the Bike+ which was 2495€ (paid interest free in 58€ a month instalments for like 42 months or something) rather than the Bike because it had some extra features I wanted. But it’s not the cheapest provider that’s for sure
January 19, 20223 yr I am still doing a session a day on the exercise bike, need to expand this and spend longer on it each day. Slowly building up fitness as I have to pace myself. Good luck with all the plans here. Edited January 19, 20223 yr by Flatcap

But it’s not the cheapest provider that’s for sure Thanks for the explanation, sounds like there's a lot to offer with them - hope you find it's worth the money! I'm becoming more conscious of the fact that while I'm at Uni I only really do a substantial amount of walking on weekends which means I'm not getting too much exercise the rest of the week - it's something I'm now starting to look more into, whether I do the 45-minute walk into campus some days or make more of an effort to go for a walk during lunchtime, I think it's important for my peace of mind as well as my heart rate.

When I was at university, I used to look at the gaps in the timetable. If I had time for a walk between one campus and another, I would do so. Only if the time constraints were too tight or it was pouring with rain did I catch the bus between the two. I sometimes went for a walk before breakfast as well.
January 27, 20223 yr So I’ve been keeping up my commitment to use my bike daily. Or at least do something peloton every day. Some days it’s just a 5 or 10 min recovery ride but it’s *something*. The third and fourth weeks of a new program are usually the really tough ones when it starts to bite and you’re just tired. I’m now on week 4 and week 3 suuuuuuuuuuucked but I got through it. Now I’m pushing on with renewed vigour. Got a new gym plan from my PT and I’m gonna hit every damn session. It’s a 4 day split, 2 upper body, 2 lower body, which works for me as I actually enjoy leg day. Maybe it’s just that, outwith a pool, my legs have always been strong. I mean they have to be to hurl you off the starting blocks. Maybe in 11.5 weeks my shoulders won’t be so laughably weak!! How is everyone else doing so far?
