A bit of a mix bag

Vanessa Paradis-Be my Baby is probably my fav song in that top 10, would have never predicted a 2nd hit for her after Joe Le Taxi looked like she was gonna be a 1-hit wonder. But Be my Baby was great, very Lenny Kravitz of course.

Also always have a soft spot for Would I Lie to You, crazy it was bigger in the UK than the US.

the new Erasure and Shamen songs were a bit of a let down, especially Erasure. They could have released a brand new single instead of remixed their old meh flop.

At least it was not another cover, really hated those Undercover/Rage crap covers.

Charles & Eddie make their expected climb to No 1, it’s just the 11th chart topper of 1992 though in what could turn out to be a record year for a low turnaround (excluding 1952 obviously). It sold a very respectable 69,000 copies as the first flushes of the festive period start to show. The remainder of the top 3 consist of the falling Boyz II Men 1-2 (40,000) and Arrested Development who cling to the No 3 position with 32,000 buyers.

Recorded by Dolly Parton in 1973 as a farewell to her mentor and former partner Porter Wagoner when she decided to go solo, it was a country hit the following year before becoming a hit again for the singer in 1982 when it featured in the film “The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas” and topped the Country charts on both occasions though it never charted here. It’s now been recorded by Whitney Houston for the soundtrack of her film “The Bodyguard” which marks her acting debut and is out here on Boxing Day, she was apparently meant to record a version of “What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted” but it has been used recently in “Fried Green Tomatoes” so this song was chosen. It drives 12-4 (32,000) to become Houston’s biggest hit since 1988’s “One Moment In Time” topped the survey.

Recorded in Hanover in July 1992 during their recent “We Can’t Dance” tour, Genesis’ “Invisible Touch” was a No 15 hit in 1986 and now comes in a limited edition live release which predictably becomes instantly a bigger hit the second time around arriving at No 7 (21,000). An 8th top 10 single it previews the first of two live albums “Live- The Way We Walk Volume I: The Shorts” which is out this week.

hqdefault.jpg

Lots of re-hashes about this week, along with Whitney and Genesis we have Heaven 17 who have been absent from the charts these last 5 years but this week see their biggest hit “Temptation” debut at No 9 (20,000). It comes in a remixed form by Brothers In Rhythm and will be included on a new compilation of their work due in the Spring.

Undercover sneak 7-5 (31,000) as they help push The Shamen 4-6 (28,000), Vanessa Paradis slips 6-8 (20,000) and Rage bottom out 5-10 (17,000).

1- WOULD I LIE TO YOU- Charles & Eddie (69,000)

2- END OF THE ROAD- Boyz II Men (40,000)

3- PEOPLE EVERYDAY- Arrested Development (32,000)

4- I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU- Whitney Houston (32,000)

5- NEVER LET HER SLIP AWAY- Undercover (31,000)

6- BOSS DRUM- The Shamen (28,000)

7- INVISIBLE TOUCH- Genesis (21,000)

8- BE MY BABY- Vanessa Paradis (20,000)

9- TEMPTATION- Heaven 17 (20,000)

28TH NOVEMBER

A-124492-1227909112.jpg

It rushes 12-1 in the US and Whitney almost pulled it off here, sales of “I Will Always Love You” increase by 96% to 62,000, a new record for the No 2 record in 1992 but even that wasn’t enough to deprive Charles & Eddie of a second week at No 1. “Would I Lie To You” increased its own sales by a more modest 16% but that enough to sell an impressive 80,000 at the top, it bodes well the duo’s debut album which is in shops in a fortnight. Incidentally it is Houston’s 10th US chart topper drawing her level again with Madonna in the record books.

Boyz II Men continue their slow descent 2-3 (32,000) but have now sold 370,000 copies of “End Of The Road”- that’s enough to be the 6th best seller of the year and will clear 400,000 before year end. Heaven 17 charge 9-4 (27,000) keeping Undercover stranded at No 5 (25,000).

09318_153343_theprodigy1994_PA-1.jpg

The Prodigy are back with another cut from “Experience” and a double A-Side to boot, “Out Of Space/ Ruff In The Jungle Bizness”. The former features a sample of Max Romeo’s “Chase The Devil” and hopes must be that it finally launches the album into the big sellers over the festive period, the album debuted at No 12 eight weeks ago but has since left the top 60 but now revives 61-40. The single meanwhile becomes the group’s 3rd top 10 single in 15 months as it rallies 14-6 (24,000).

gunsnrosesyoung-741685.jpg

Talking of double A-Sides Guns N Roses are also getting in on the act, “Yesterdays” comes with the LP version of their earlier hit “November Rain” (aptly re-issued in the right month?). The group is still on a hot streak at present with a fifth top 10 on the trot as the current release floats 12-8 (21,000) but both “Use Your Illusion”’s remain outside the top 60 on the album charts, the single rise in part due to a belated release of a 12” picture disk, a tactic being used increasingly by record companies to boost chart positions after the initial splash.

Three fallers to cover briefly Arrested Development drop 3-7 (23,000), The Shamen dive 6-9 (20,000) and Genesis fade 7-10 (17,000)

So with Christmas a month away time to review the runners and riders:

BJORN AGAIN- Santa Claus Is Comin To Town

It’s been a great year for all things ABBA related as they’re back in fashion and could these copycats steal a march on the festive top spot?

BOYZ II MEN- Motownphilly

Follow up to “End Of The Road” could do the business for them though it perhaps isn’t festive enough?

CLIFF RICHARD- I Still Believe In You

Who would bet against Cliff at Christmas? He’s done it in 1988 and 1990 so he’s due again this year!

DARLENE LOVE- All Alone On Christmas

Return to the charts for the 60s star, this features in the film “Home Alone 2: Lost In New York”- festive and linked to a major film- could be a winning formula!

DIANA ROSS- If We Hold On Together

Don’t dismiss Diana- she scored a massive hit last Christmas with “When You Tell Me That You Love Me”- this comes with a cute video from the film “The Land Before Time”.

MICHAEL JACKSON- Heal The World

Yes it’s the 27th (or 6th we think) single from “Dangerous” but this is for charity and features kids so expect additional sales.

FREDDIE MERCURY- In My Defence

Queen triumphed last year can a solo Freddie Record do it- Public desire for his old work remains strong!

MADONNA- Deeper & Deeper

It seems we always put Madonna in the rundown for a festive chart topper and she’s always there or thereabouts but never at No 1- could this be her year?

THE SHAMEN- Phorever People

A great year for this band with three top 10 singles in the last 6 months including a No 1- could this be their second?

ROD STEWART- Tom Trubert’s Blues

Rod’s done his version of Waltzing Matilda- could it surprise us all and take the top spot?

WWF SUPERSTARS- Slam Jam

The bookies favourite apparently- combining kids, wrestling, and Christmas- could prove unstoppable.

WHITNEY HOUSTON- I Will Always Love You

On target for No 1 on Sunday so could have peaked too early- but promo for the film “Bodyguard” will be getting ramped up as we approach Boxing day so you never know.

1- WOULD I LIE TO YOU- Charles & Eddie (80,000)

2- I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU- Whitney Houston (62,000)

3- END OF THE ROAD- Boyz II Men (32,000)

4- TEMPTATION- Heaven 17 (27,000)

5- NEVER LET HER SLIP AWAY- Undercover (25,000)

6- OUT OF SPACE/ RUFF IN THE JUNGLE BIZNESS- The Prodigy (24,000)

7- PEOPLE EVERYDAY- Arrested Development (23,000)

8- YESTERDAYS/ NOVEMBER RAIN- Guns N Roses (21,000)

9- BOSS DRUM- The Shamen (20,000)

10- INVISIBLE TOUCH- Genesis (17,000)

5TH DECEMBER

161104_bodyguard2.jpg

Christmas is off with a bang this week as many contenders smash straight into the upper reaches but more on them in a second. Charles & Eddie only take a 10% dip in sales but it demotes them to No 2 (72,000) this week, and so the crown passes (as widely expected) to Whitney Houston who scores her fourth UK No 1 single today with a healthy sale of 92,000 which is a new 1992 high! It will be interesting to see where both tracks end up on the YTD charts- “Would I Lie To You” currently has sales of 286,000 whilst “I Will Always Love You” is on a more modest 200,000, two of only 22 records to cross the 200,000 mark so far this year. Another one of those records is “End Of The Road” which falls 3-6 (25,000) on a current tally of 395,000 which currently places them at No 5 on that chart.

f9b4b90cbe73a5801a4e45823a825ce1.jpg

Whitney’s position at the top isn’t necessarily assured to extent for a long time as the contenders for the Christmas top spot are lining up behind her, none more so than Michael Jackson with a new single “Heal The World”. It debuts at No 3 (45,000), it’s an incredible 6th top 20 hit from “Dangerous” which is itself up 38-25 this week, it’s also his third album to generate 6 top 20 hit singles from it, no other act can claim a feat like that and demonstrates his ability to keep pulling hit singles from album which have themselves sold millions. Jackson has also set up a charity called “The Heal The World Foundation” to which the proceeds of this track will go as indeed the profits from his “Dangerous” tour did, it’s his 28th individually credited top 10 single in a solo career now 20 years in the making- keep an eye on this one as it could explode at retail next week.

v30838tglke.jpg

Written in 1895 and published in 1903 “Waltzing Matilda” is something of an unofficial nation anthem for Australians, it was taken and used extensively as the melody for Tom Waits song “Tom Trubert’s Blues” released in 1976. His song has now been covered by Rod Stewart as a lead single from a new album due next year, produced by Trevor Horn the CD version also contains new re-recordings of “Sailing” and “I Don’t Want To Talk About It” for extra value for money. The package debuts at No 8 (21,000).

hqdefault.jpg

Rod Stewart may have built up 23 top 10 singles during his career but that’s small fry compared to Cliff who now has 61 top tenners to his credit in an admittedly longer career to date. His latest “I Still Believe In You” debuts at No 9 (20,000) and if anything we’ve learnt never write off Cliff at Christmas, this song was co-written by Dean Pitchford who also co-wrote Irene Cara’s “Fame” so it comes with good pedigree.

Heaven 17 hold at No 4 (33,000) fending off The Prodigy who threaten 6-5 (29,000), Undercover slump 5-7 (22,000) but do see their album become the highest new entry this week albeit at No 26, and Arrested Development are down 7-10 (17,000).

1- I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU- Whitney Houston (92,000)

2- WOULD I LIE TO YOU- Charles & Eddie (72,000)

3- HEAL THE WORLD- Michael Jackson (45,000)

4- TEMPTATION- Heaven 17 (33,000)

5- OUT OF SPACE/ RUFF IN THE JUNGLE BIZNESS- The Prodigy (29,000)

6- END OF THE ROAD- Boyz II Men (25,000)

7- NEVER LET HER SLIP AWAY- Undercover (22,000)

8- TOM TRUBERT’S BLUES (WALTZING MATILDA)- Rod Stewart (21,000)

9- I STILL BELIEVE IN YOU- Cliff Richard (20,000)

10- PEOPLE EVERYDAY- Arrested Development (17,000)

'and iiiii ey iiiiii' at #1!

As for that Prodigy song, very good tune, the rave era by this stage was at an end really though, The Prodigy being one of the only early 90s rave acts to still get chart hits going forward.

As for Phorever People by The Shamen, one of my favourites of theirs and I think definitely a lot more eurodance-y sounding than their other songs, a real sign of whats to come in dance in 1993-4!

12TH DECEMBER

His sales swell by 59% but in the end he had too much ground to make up and thusly Michael Jackson’s “Heal The World” can only rise 3-2 on a sale of 71,000. The extra bit of bad news is that Whitney Houston has accelerated away from the field, she sold a stunning 114,000 copies last week, that’s the biggest weekly sale of the year and the biggest 7 day tally for a record by a female solo act in almost three years, it also gets a fast pass into the top 10 YTD.

30+wrestlers.jpg

So bookies favourite for the festive top spot WWF Superstars “Slam Jam” obliges becoming the highest new entry on this week’s chart coming in at No 4 (33,000). It’s co-written and co-produced by Stock and Waterman and marks their first top 10 single as producers since Kylie Minogue back in February. There is an album and a tour coming in Spring apparently but all eyes will be on how this one does next week.

ttyImages_108002343.jpg

A hit now for the third time “Could It Be Magic” has been reworked by the Rapino Brothers for current teen favourites Take That, it becomes their third top 10 single in seven months. The single was co-written by Barry Manilow in the 70s and is based around the chord progression from Chopin’s “Prelude In C Minor” and made it to single status in 1975 though it failed to chart here until a 1978 release took it to No 25. Before that Donna Summer discofied it in 1976 and that arrangement forms the backbone of the new Take That version. The track isn’t available on the vinyl version of the album which will help sales as it wastes no time grabbing the No 9 (18,000) spot. The song comes with a suitably sexy video with the boys veering enough flesh to motivate their teen fans who voted them on to win a plethora of awards at the Smash Hits awards last week.

hqdefault.jpg

And just one place behind Take That is Madonna with her 28th top 10 single “Deeper And Deeper”, Another cut from the “Erotica” album it should bolster the sales of the album which are just over the 200,000 mark as it lifts slightly 13-12 while the single debuts at No 10 (18,000). The promo is an homage to Andy Warhol and features actor Udo Kier who appeared in a few Warhol films himself back in the 70s.

Charles & Eddie’s album debuts at No 20 as their single dips 2-3 (60,000), Heaven 17 regress 4-5 (29,000) and the Prodigy lapse 5-8 (22,000). Rod Stewart climbs 8-6 (25,000) and Cliff can only move 9-7 (23,000)- both look like they won’t pose a threat to Whitney now.

1- I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU- Whitney Houston (114,000)

2- HEAL THE WORLD- Michael Jackson (71,000)

3- WOULD I LIE TO YOU- Charles & Eddie (60,000)

4- SLAM JAM- WWF Superstars (33,000)

5- TEMPTATION- Heaven 17 (29,000)

6- TOM TRUBERT’S BLUES (WALTZING MATILDA)- Rod Stewart (25,000)

7- I STILL BELIEVE IN YOU- Cliff Richard (23,000)

8- OUT OF SPACE/ RUFF IN THE JUNGLE BIZNESS- The Prodigy (22,000)

9- COULD IT BE MAGIC?- Take That (18,000)

10- DEEPER AND DEEPER- Madonna (18,000)

'Could It Be Magic' is a good song, I like the dramatic buildup to the chorus melodically. Didn't know it was influenced by a piece of classical music.

The Take That version is also the first time that the distinctive voice of Robbie Williams is really heard musically.

Edited by The Sake

Missing the Top 40 was Leftfield's “Song of Life”. Charted at 59 on 6 December 92, and I can't find an HQ of it anywhere sadly.. but it's a BANGER. *.*

Edit- decided to upload it from my CD single so it's at least somewhere on the internet!

oh my don't think I ever heard that WWF song :o was it really favourite for Xmas #1!!? thank God for Whitney then, IWALY is overplayed but it's a good song and a good cover

from those weeks my fav top 10 is probably Deeper and Deeper, the highlight (by miles) from the Erotica album, I also liked Prodigy's Out of Space.

but Gezza why you say that "predictably" the Genesis live song was gonna be bigger this time. I remember back then I was really surprised, cos it's a live version and it "only" went top 20 a few years back, why it should go top 10 now?

A number of factors, they'd pulled top 10 singles from their recent album for the first time in 8 years, and the sales required for a top 10 single were now much lower than back in 1986 when the original was released. So the recent surge in their popularity coupled with lower sales climate was a good bet for it beat the original peak. It was also a fan favourite by this point

19TH DECEMBER

hqdefault.jpg

Not much happens on this week’s chart with the top 4 all non movers but in reality it’s all over bar the shouting, Houston spends a third week at No 1 but she sold another 1992 record of 163,000 copies to take its total to 477,000 as it flies to No 4 on the YTD chart and will very probably soar past Snap! sometime next week to take pole position. It’s also the fourth highest weekly tally of the 90s and the biggest by a female soloist since Jennifer Rush 7 years ago. Michael remains a distant runner up this week, his sales actually ebbed slightly to just 62,000 but he in turn remains well clear of Charles & Eddie, their sale of 46,000. “Would I Lie To You” has now shifted 392,000 copies and is the 7th biggest hit of the year, meanwhile the bookies will be happy that WWF superstars fail to make any inroads to the top 3 with sales only increasing by 38% to 45,000 though they pushed hard toward the weekend.

Better news for both Take That who rise 9-5 (31,000) and Madonna who heads north 10-6 (26,000).

hqdefault.jpg

Highest new entry of the week belongs to The Shamen with their shot at the Christmas No 1 “Phorever People”. All 4 of their 1992 releases have debuted instantly into the top 10 and this is no different as it enters at No 7 (26,000) and causes the parent album “Boss Drum” to bounce 17-14 and should be a strong seller throughout the festive period.

200938-004-6F2F7CB1.jpg

A flop when first released in 1986 Freddie Mercury’s “In My Defence” has been dusted down and given a posthumous release and jumps 11-8 (25,000). It was originally written for the musical “Time” in which it was performed as a duet with Cliff Richard, the only live version of the song was performed by the two in April 1988 and marked the last time Mercury sang live in public, like the Shamen Mercury has albums to shift this Christmas and he isn’t doing badly moving 8-7 this week having already peaked at No 4.

2313b88016244fbd760e66206ef8f07d.jpeg

They put together an impressive run of nine top 10 singles between 1976 and 1979 including two No 1 singles which sold a million each, Boney M were one of the biggest acts in the charts for a brief time. With the 80s brought tougher times and the group split when the hits stopped, but all things 70s seem to be back in fashion and Frank Farian (the man behind the band) has produced the “Boney M Megamix” which has been coupled with the suitably festive “Mary’s Boy Child- Oh My Lord” which was itself Christmas No 1 in 1978 and have now ended their 13 year wait for a tenth top ten hit with the Megamix flying 13-10 (21,000). Clearly it’s going down a storm at the office parties and indeed doing much better than a previous megamix four years ago which bottomed out at No 52- sometimes you have to wait until the time is right!

Finally Rod Stewart falls 6-9 (22,000) and must have hoped for more. Next week it’s the big one- the Christmas chart!

1- I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU- Whitney Houston (163,000)

2- HEAL THE WORLD- Michael Jackson (62,000)

3- WOULD I LIE TO YOU- Charles & Eddie (46,000)

4- SLAM JAM- WWF Superstars (45,000)

5- COULD IT BE MAGIC- Take That (31,000)

6- DEEPER AND DEEPER- Madonna (26,000)

7- PHOREVER PEOPLE- The Shamen (26,000)

8- IN MY DEFENCE- Freddie Mercury (25,000)

9- TOM TRUBERT’S BLUES (WALTZING MATILDA)- Rod Stewart (22,000)

10- BONEY M MEGAMIX- Boney M (21,000)

26TH DECEMBER

1992-whitney-houston-i-will-always-love-you-1353313406-view-0.jpg

Sales only cover December 14-19 so you might think that single sales would be unspectacular (given the week) for the Christmas chart, but nobody told that to Whitney Houston. Not only is she the festive chart topper for the year but she also sold a remarkable 217,000 copies into the bargain, that’s the third highest tally of the 90s and the largest by a female (certainly this side of 1980) and even outsold the rest of the top 5 put together, total sales of “I Will Always Love You” now stand at 694,000 as it grabs the accolade of best seller of the year from Snap!’s grasp at the death, it is also the 4th biggest seller of the decade so far. Moreover it is the first festive chart topper from a female soloist since Winifred Atwell in 1954!

Her victory was overwhelming and she was out of sight virtually from the off, Michael Jackson came in as the runner up for a third week, his sale of 77,000 is enough to see “Heal The World” sell 255,000 and is already in the top 15 for the year and Charles & Eddie are again in bronze position with sales of 53,000 as it nears the 450,000 mark.

Further down some re-arranging occurs, Take That nudge 5-4 (45,000) and the Shamen improve 7-5 (38,000) whilst WWF Superstars end up slumping 4-6 (29,000).

hqdefault.jpg

Two megamix’s back to back, Boney M jump 10-7 (28,000) whilst at No 8 is Gloria Estefan and her “Miami Hitmix” which is a medley of some of her hits both as a soloist and with the Miami Sound Machine. It’s backed with the seasonal “Christmas Through Your Eyes” co-written by Diane Warren, though as it’s the party season it’s the hitmix that is getting the airplay and promo, the project has been released to help promote a new greatest hits compilation which rises to No 2 this week behind Cher’s greatest hits and with Erasure at No 3, Genesis at No 4, Freddie Mercury at 6, Simple Minds at 7, and Abba at 10, it makes it a festive chart full of GH sets. It is Estefan’s 6th top 10 single, this one selling 27,000 copies last week.

Rod Stewart holds at No 9 (20,000) whilst Madonna slides 6-10 (20,000).

1- I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU- Whitney Houston (217,000)

2- HEAL THE WORLD- Michael Jackson (77,000)

3- WOULD I LIE TO YOU- Charles & Eddie (53,000)

4- COULD IT BE MAGIC- Take That (45,000)

5- PHOREVER PEOPLE- The Shamen (38,000)

6- SLAM JAM- WWF Superstars (29,000)

7- BONEY M MEGAMIX- Boney M (28,000)

8- MIAMI HIT MIX/ CHRISTMAS THROUGH YOUR EYES- Gloria Estefan (27,000)

9- TOM TRUBERT’S BLUES (WALTZING MATILDA)- Rod Stewart (20,000)

10- DEEPER AND DEEPER- Madonna (20,000)

2ND JANUARY

986198444162f6c94f1516b004ec123e.jpg

Whitney spends a fifth week at No 1 as “The Bodyguard” finally moves to No 1 on the compilation charts and the film opens in cinema’s. Houston sold another 181,000 with the Christmas wind behind her, she’s nearing the million mark quickly (currently 875,000) the last single by a woman to do that was Jennifer Rush.

Again Whitney’s victory was at the expense of Michael Jackson, his “Heal The World” remains at No 2 for a fourth week though its sales are off slightly at 65,000 he smashes through the 300,000 mark and it passes “Black Or White” as the most successful single so far from “Dangerous”. Again the top 3 is completed by Charles & Eddie who sold another 47,000 of “Would I Lie To You” and could sell its half millionth copy this week.

Minor movement outside of the big 3 sees Take That hold at No 4 (37,000), WWF Superstars boomerang 6-5 (27,000) as the Shamen drop 5-6 (22,000) and Boney M hold at No 7 (22,000). Rod’s up a spot 9-8 (20,000) swapping places with Gloria Estefan 8-9 (20,000).

“The Bodyguard” has now also produced a second top ten hit in Lisa Stansfield’s “Somebody (I’m Coming Back)” as it crawls 11-10 (19,000). It is Lisa’s 4th top 10 in three years but three of those (if this goes no further) have all made No 10 with only “All Around The World” the odd one out as it went all the way to No 1.

9TH JANUARY

1992-whitney-houston-i-will-always-love-you-1353313406-view-0.jpg

1992 concludes with a sixth week at the top for Whitney, the last female act to do that was Olivia Newton John in 1978 or if you want to be a purist and look for a solo female credit then you’d have to go back 22 years to 1970 when Freda Payne spent 6 weeks there with “Band Of Gold”. Whitney does it in style despite a sales slump of 53% to 85,000 in the post Christmas slump as if finishes the year on 960,000 with the million mark in sight this week. Again Michael Jackson’s “Heal The World” played bridesmaid, it’s been No 2 for 5 weeks now the longest stint Right Said Fred last year, he too lost 40% of his sales week on week to slump to 39,000 but he sneaks into the YE chart at No 9.

Good news for Take That fans, their version of “Could It Be Magic” pushes 4-3 (27,000) as the album “Take That & Party” also reaches a new peak as it scurries 9-3 itself.

Snap! take full advantage of the quiet release schedule to issue the follow up to their massive “Rhythm Is A Dancer” which ends 1992 as the second best seller. “Exterminate” features on their recent album “The Madman Returns” in instrumental form but for the single version it contains vocals by Madonna’s backing singer Niki Harris. The album will get a re-launch next month with this version contained within it, probably for the best as the album only made No 20 on its original run disappearing after 8 weeks on the survey and selling under 100,000 copies. The single debuts at No 7 (12,000)- their 7th top 10 hit but their first since Turbo B and Thea Austin left the group after Rhythm.

Surging 29-16 this week on the album charts is the debut album by Arrested Development which now contains two top 10 hits as “Mr Wendal/ Revolution” enters at No 8 (12,000). Highlighting the issue of homelessness “Mr Wendal” samples another Sly & The Family Stone track this time “Sing A Simple Song”, whilst “Revolution” was written for the soundtrack of the new Spike Lee film “Malcolm X” out here in spring.

Charles & Eddie drop 3-4 (24,000) as it charges over the 500,000 mark and ends the year as the third biggest single at the death, The Shamen rebound 6-5 (16,000) which costs the WWF superstars a slot 5-6 (14,000). The Prodigy are back 12-9 (11,000) with “Out Of Space/ Ruff In The Jungle Bizness” and Gloria Estefan drops 9- 10 (11,000) to round off 1992.

1- I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU- Whitney Houston (85,000)

2- HEAL THE WORLD- Michael Jackson (39,000)

3- COULD IT BE MAGIC- Take That (27,000)

4- WOULD I LIE TO YOU- Charles & Eddie (24,000)

5- PHOREVER PEOPLE- The Shamen (16,000)

6- SLAM JAM- WWF Superstars (14,000)

And that's it for 1992- Thanks to all who have contributed as usual! See you in 93!
Wow at just how huge the Whitney track was at the end of 1992. Obviously I can recall it being #1 for ages and doing really well but I had no idea just how much it outperformed the market of the time
