As much as I'd always welcome new Ariana music, I think this is a year she shouldn't release and make the public miss her a bit? She should come back in time with a new sound to keep listeners on their toes.

I assume she'll have collaborations released this year however so we will be hearing new material, but sometimes less is more (for the long run).

Yeah, I think both her and Dua need to take the whole of 2022 off with no features and perhaps come back with a bang later in the year or something. It's been pretty much overkill.

I wouldn't completely rule it out because she did say she'd be interested in touring two eras at once again a la 'sweetener' / 'thank u, next' and she hasn't toured since pre-'positions', but I imagine filming and recording for 'Wicked' and its accompanying soundtrack will be top priority this year, ahead of release next year. Who knows though, in 2019 she did release 'thank u, next', a soundtrack and a live album  So I'm ready to be surprised but I think my final prediction is a couple of features at most, with a new album and tour in 2023 as her stance has always been quite cautious with Covid. That fantasy would be quite a year for her on top of 'Wicked' release and her 30th birthday as well. Can't believe next year is also 10 years since her debut album...!

Tour news is definitely my biggest want from her right now whenever that may be

I have a feeling there will be a single later this year and then album next year.

I think late this year would be a decent time for a new single as it would be 2 years since 'positions' then.

The 'positions' album era was so short and comparitively uneventful compared to other eras that it feels much longer than a year ago to me, so I'd be quite happy to see a lead single for AG7 this year although preferably towards the end of the year and album following in 2023. Definitely would approve of two pre-album singles.

The gap between positions album and now is already longer than what we waited between her debut album and My Everything and also between Sweetener and thank u, next.

I do feel new music will come towards end of year but whether that means a whole album I’m torn on. She may release the lead towards end of year and then the album early 2023 following thank u, nexts campaign hopefully she does as positions felt like it come from nowhere then ended abruptly

I’d be interested to see how the album does if she does wait until 2023 and gives us a chance to miss her as she was everywhere for a while.

For me, the Positions era felt more fulfilling than Thank U, Next. That era was over as soon as the album was released, at least we got one more proper single and an attempt with 'POV' plus all those live performances a few months down the line

(and the new tracks on the re-release which we don't talk about)

For me, the Positions era felt more fulfilling than Thank U, Next.

You're not wrong and it pains me greatly. Every song on that album was a smash, it still seems such a waste.

Yeah her absence in the chart definitely feels noticeable right now after she was so prolific for quite a few years in a row. Wicked filming seems to be her big priority at the moment!

she hasn't even begun recording new music yet so i wouldn't even think we'll see anything before 2024 if i'm honest

positions was far better than TUN. felt more like a solid album.. although i do see Sweetner, TUN and Positions as a trilogy for some reason.

I was thinking the other day she'd be one of a few artists to pull off a instant #1 if she dropped a new single right now ala 2018 & 2020.

So it’s been something like 18 months since I started this thread and still no new music. My question is do people actually want new music from Ariana? It seems off to me that for an artist with their own artist forum on BuzzJack that this question isn’t being asked more often by her fans to the degree perhaps that someone like Lady Gaga’s fans seemingly ask daily about new music. It’s starting to feel like the longest gap between eras for Ariana since she started her career and whilst I’ve no doubt she could achieve another huge hit in the charts, it does feel like her fan base is dwindling a bit. Would she not have been a perfect choice of recording artist for the new Barbie soundtrack? I don’t know, maybe, but what I really want to see is the start of a new era. It’s been a good 3 years since her album Positions was released so why the delay without any indication of new music on the way? I understand she has been working on other projects too but we demand new music!
I'm not sure it's fair to say her fanbase is dwindling, it really felt like overkill by the time the Positions era ended. I'd say hyping up for a new release in the first half of 2024 could be the perfect time to come back.

This thread was clearly on my mind as I woke up from a dream that Ariana announced a new album with features from PinkPantheress, Jade Thirlwall and Santana  what a mix x

Aly is right though, Ariana was so prolific for a while. 2018-2019 gave us two studio albums, the Charlie's Angels soundtrack and a live album. Then we got the positions campaign only the following year from 2020-21. Can totally see why she'd want to slow things down a bit after releasing so much. Since then she's still been involved with features and has been busy shooting two Wicked movies and recording for the accompanying soundtrack(s). The late 2024 release for part 1 does feel so far away though - I'd agree that earlier next year would be a good kind of time to come back, if she wants to! Both of her The Weeknd remixes were lapped up in this interim period, I'm sure she'll still be huge.

A Barbie banger would've been fun but who knows, maybe she was asked but already had too much going on, the filming for Wicked has still been ongoing (literally only just halted by the writer's strikes)
