Same, although even that is starting to tire on me. I'd rather hear 'Human' which strangely I rarely do, despite also being one of their biggest hits.

Yeah, that is categorically the best Killers song there is :D to this day I'll never understand the enduring appeal of 'Mr Brightside' - it's a great song for sure but I just don't get what sets it apart from other classics of that era (of which there are many).

I think it's all about the lyrics and the storytelling in Mr Brightside, which is genius

 

funnily from their debut album Mr Brightside peaked at #10 while When we were Young peaked at #3

As I mentioned in the #1s listen through last week, in the year 2525 Mr Brightside will still be in the chart, and people will still complain about it on Buzzjack :kink:

 

I'd say the question of how it became so popular is fairly moot at this stage - but since it is so popular, it's become a 'safe' choice for anyone setting a playlist as they know a lot of people will like it, therefore propagating more streams to back up its popularity. Also the concept of 'overplay' doesn't translate on a national scale - sure some people will be getting sick of it, but there will be others discovering it or realising they like it just as quickly.

the other problem is there's naff all in terms of new indie rock hits so it's those of the past that keep getting played by those into the genre ie Mr Brightside, Wonderwall, Do I Wanna Know, Riptide which refuse to ever leave the Spotify chart.

I think it's safe to say that "Joker" was not a good single choice.

 

Well it'll probably go top 10 which is good for a 4th official single (6 if you count 'Visiting Hours' and 'Merry Christmas') so not quite 'The Joker and the Flop'

 

The only other single on the album is '2 Step' which did well on streaming on album release. That'll probably out in spring/summer with a remix.

Yeah Drops Of Jupiter (Tell Me) and particularly A Thousand Miles are very popular too now from that era but not as much as Mr Brightside.

 

As a fan of early 80s style new wave music yes I much prefer Somebody Told Me to Mr Brightside!

Ed/Taylor still doing poorly at #22 despite the massive playlist support

but even worst for Oh My God, #1 on HH + cover but still "only" at 26 with not even 150K

but despite people's lack of response has been there at the top for a month now...

He’s still got 2 versions in the Apple top 200 at #25 and #130, so combined he must be top 15 minimum there I would imagine, I can only think it’s YouTube that’s letting him down, thought he would be comfortably top 5 officially

but Youtube streams don't count for much... Lost Frequencies are getting like 125,000 streams a day on YT, thats like 200 sales a day
