China got their first medal in the Speed Skating Relay today - quite impressive given they only made the final after the USA were disqualified!

Sadly the British athletes all seemed to succumb to our traditional speed skating fate, with two crashing out and one sprinting for the line a lap early :( You have to feel for them.

I saw that on the highlights. The Italian speed skater got so close to catching the Chinese at the end of the relay having been a long way behind.

That was a poor effort from the British speed skaters. Hopefully, they'll improve for their next events.

They were showing a lot of Kamila Valieva's figure skating in the highlights shows yesterday - she really is quite fantastic, and only 15 years old as well!
The long track speed skating, they go round in pairs and the person with the fastest time after they've all gone round wins the gold medal. I think it would be more exciting if the two skaters with the fastest times race against each other in a final for the gold medal and the skaters with the third and fourth fastest times race for the bronze medal.

South Korea's Hwang Dae-heon took gold in the in the short-track speed skating 1500m final as Great Britain's Farrell Treacy finishes ninth.

Treacy progressed from his semi-final after two of the favourites were disqualified for infringements.

The 26-year-old skated cleanly in the final but was off the pace as Hwang edged a close race.

The medals won at the team figure skating event at the Beijing Winter Olympics have yet to be handed out because of a legal issue, the IOC said.

The Russian Olympic Committee claimed the win on Monday, ahead of the United States and Japan.

They had a mini ceremony at the venue, in which they were handed Olympic mascot Bing Dwen Dwen teddy bears.

Unconfirmed reports in Russia named 15-year-old Kamila Valieva as the skater in question.

That race was quite a spectacle to watch - 10 skaters in a race which should only have had six! Good to see Treacy make the final though, a very successful event for him given his ranking.

It's genuniely really sad to hear - 15 is no age to have doping allegations circling around her, there must be so many thoughts going through her head right now.

Valieva has now been deemed clear to compete, however if she gets a medal there will be no medal ceremony held.

The French figure-skating couple did pretty well in the Pairs competition today!

Absolute joke. Russia and Russian athletes have no place in sport. They cannot be trust to compete cleanly and their state systems encourage and cover up doping. This great talent will never shake this tag for the rest of her life. Serious failing in her support systems to have allowed this to happen but no surprises really given how long the Russians and the Soviet Union before them have been cheating.

Not that the host nation is any better

Caught the Speed Skating Team Pursuit finals this morning - Japan's women were incredibly unlucky, a slip at the final corner costing them the gold! Canada were closing in to less than half a second though so not a complete fluke win for them either.

Kamila Valieva launched her bid for Olympic figure skating gold after a court cleared her to compete despite a positive drugs test.

All eyes were on the Russian 15-year-old as she stepped on to the ice for a two-minute 40-second routine where the focus was briefly on her skating and not the doping scandal around her.

She stumbled on a jump, had tears at the end but went top with 82.16.

Kamila Valieva's anti-doping sample showed traces of three drugs that can be used to treat heart conditions, according to a New York Times report.

The 15-year-old Russian figure skater is being allowed to compete at Beijing 2022 despite testing positive for banned angina drug trimetazidine.

The report said it also showed hyproxen and L-Carnitine, which are not banned.

almost for the better she didn't medal as it would've taken away from the experience of the other medal winners! Do feel for her though and Robin Cousins was right in the commentary that maybe she shouldn't have been competing for her own sake. Interested to see what the outcome of the testing is but being only 15 years old and surrounded by a team of adults you must question who is looking after her.
