February 10, 20223 yr What's wrong with going for lots of no.1s (especially on a chart forum)? Every week there seems to be a huge race in the album chart for the no.1 with discounting, signed products, cassettes, you name it. And every single no.1 of Ed's (apart from that Ladbaby thing) is a genuine massive hit in its own right. It's not like they are 'non' number 1s. Sure loads of artists would want the no.1s Ed gets but they just aren't capable as they don't have the mainstream appeal Ed does. I wonder if anyone was saying ‘what’s wrong with going for lots of no.1s?’ back when Westlife were getting so many? I was a chart nerd back then and it really irritated me, as it does with Ed. What irritates me more with him is that he knows he has advantages and genuinely uses them to get ahead. It’s at a point where no one can touch him and it looks like it’ll never end. Which I’m sure is great if you like him but there are those of us who don’t. I also wonder just how much defence other artists would get for any bit of criticism? Say Jess Glynne, Anne-Marie or Maroon 5?
February 10, 20223 yr I wonder if anyone was saying ‘what’s wrong with going for lots of no.1s?’ back when Westlife were getting so many? Nobody kept bleeting on about it though! I detested Westlife but when they got to number 1 I accepted it for what it was. What irritates me more with him is that he knows he has advantages and genuinely uses them to get ahead. What advantages? He doesn't have any advantages that others don't have! I also wonder just how much defence other artists would get for any bit of criticism? Say Jess Glynne, Anne-Marie or Maroon 5? I would say the same in defence of any other artist.

Actually, yes, people did go on and on hating Westlife or Wasteoflife as they were often known. Same thing happened with McFly. And as for Ed’s advantages. He didn’t have them to begin with but he does now. He’s a household name, someone people listen to when they can’t be bothered listening to anything different. He doesn’t need to release physicals or re-record an old songs as a collaboration or even try to get to no.1 yet he does it all anyway. Fair play, most artists in that situation would but there are so many whose labels aren’t willing to risk the money to do the same things. Perhaps you should wander into the latest Jess Glynne thread in the pop forum. People are saying horrendous things about her in there and I think she needs your help.
February 10, 20223 yr Actually, yes, people did go on and on hating Westlife or Wasteoflife as they were often known. Same thing happened with McFly. Not to the extent that they are with Ed! And as someone said earlier it's the same few people doing it. Fair enough they might not like him or his music but move on. I think those reality TV shows are shite but instead of whinging about them online I switch the TV over or find something else to do when they come on.

If it’s just the same few posters then why can’t you take your own advice and put them on ignore and Move on?
February 10, 20223 yr New version out in half hour but the fact that the original one can’t even go Spotify Top 200 after Brits performance and it didn’t do anything major afte initial release of ‘=‘ makes me wonder if it will make it there… unless signed CDs frenzy which will mean this “discussion” will run and run!
