Neighbours AXED after nearly 40 years, and also after running for nearly 30 years more than Eastenders!! So chop, chop if you want to watch it on Channel 5, as soon it is going the way of Brookslice!!!

 

Iz will be CRUSHED, as it is his absolute favourite out of all of the soaps :(

I've never watched Neighbours tbh but my granny loves it, the dog she used to have would start barking when the theme music came on at the end because he knew it was dinner time! :lol:

I never watched Neighbours but I know that Suddenly by the interestingly named Angry Anderson became a big chart hit in the UK because of its use in that episode! That's how popular Neighbours must have been in the UK back then!

FWIW, it isn’t 100% cancelled yet. Channel 5 are apparently still in negotiations with them.

Doesn’t this story happen every few years? It’d be a shame to see it go, I still watch regularly.

Without Channel 5’s involvement they won’t have enough backing to continue it, I believe.

It would regularly get in excess of 12 million viewers for tis big episodes!!!!

A Network 10 spokesperson told TV Tonight, “As outlined in the email to Neighbours cast and crew, it is our intention to continue our association with Neighbours if another broadcast partner comes forward. Network 10 has an ongoing commitment to the show, the cast and crew and is hopeful that Fremantle will find a new production partner. We will provide further updates as they become available.”

That's sad, but if it really is the ending there will hopefully be enough time to write a big ending with lots of visits from former neighbours.

 

It's been a long time since I've watched Neighbours every day. Every now and then I give it a chance, but after a few days, sometimes even months, I get tired of it. The last time I watched for months was the 35th anniversary event. After that I got bored again.

Very sad news, it’s been a part of my life since I was a baby. Hope ITV/Sky/Amazon Prime will take it on.

So it seems it will stop airing on Channel 5 this Summer and production will be ‘rested’ until a new UK broadcaster comes forward. So it sounds like they’re hoping to save it but are preparing to end it just in case. Such a shame it’s happening now when the show is in fairly good nick. It’s gotten through some horrendous times in terms of quality.

I used to be an avid fan of Neighbours. Especially around the time Kylie and Jason were in it.

It was huge. I worked in a newsagents and there were special magazines of it and books. Anyone who thought they could hold half a tune could make a record and some even had a hit.

 

Then I got bored and preferred Home and Away. Then I got bored of that too.
