Biography

Jax Jones

When Duke Dumont topped the UK charts with his single “I Got U” in 2014, many listeners may have assumed that featured artist Jax Jones was the singer. In fact, Jones (born Timucin Aluo in 1987) was a co-writer and producer on the song, and its No. 1 position marked his auspicious debut. Raised in London by a Turkish father, a Malaysian mother and a Nigerian stepfather, the Apple Music Up Next alum grew up on a mix of American hip-hop, UK dance and African music, which might help to explain the mix of styles that swirls through his own tracks: His youthful fondness for Prince shows through in funk-infused cuts like 2015’s “Ocean Drive”, while Afro-Caribbean accents bubble up in 2018’s “Ring Ring”, a lilting tropical-house collaboration with Mabel and Rich the Kid. Though his beats generally follow the punchy cadence of deep-diving future house, he brings a hip-hop producer’s collage sensibility to the mixing desk: Many of his productions slyly interpolate other songs. “You Don’t Know Me”, from 2016, is built around the slinky hook of M.A.N.D.Y. and Booka Shade’s 2005 anthem “Body Language”, while “I Got U” contains a choice bit of Whitney Houston’s “My Love Is Your Love”. Whether on his own productions or his remixes for Ellie Goulding, Charli XCX and Missy Elliott, Jones’ habitual blend of pop polish and house groove is unmistakable. “I just thought I'd try it,” he told Apple Music about his relationship to dance music. “House is a collage of everything the creator is. If you love hip-hop, you can chuck that in there. If you love rock, you can chuck that in there too. It took a long time, but now it makes a lot of sense. It’s sample-based and also musical, so it's a very natural fit. Life is beautiful like that. They say you have to, like, get rid of yourself to go to the next level. And I think that’s what happened.” - Apple Music

MNEK

At only 24 years old; artist, writer, and GRAMMY award-winning producer MNEK has already clocked up an astonishing ten years in the business, having signed a publishing deal aged just 14. With his early material like ‘Never Forget You’ (with Zara Larsson) and ‘Ready For Your Love’ (with Gorgon City) to his more recent collaborations such as ‘Blinded By Your Grace’ (with Stormzy), he has an impressive 1 billion streams to his name. The list of people he's written and produced for along the way is hard to quantify - Beyoncé, Dua Lipa, Little Mix, Madonna, Diplo, Zara Larsson, Julia Michaels and Stormzy to name but a few.

With his debut album ‘Language’ which was released in September 2018 on Virgin EMI, MNEK took centre stage with a remarkable and bold body of work. Embracing and filling the gap in the pop star market he didn’t have to look up to while growing up. Accumulating over 40 million Spotify streams across the album, ‘Language’ features singles ‘Tongue’, ‘Correct’, ‘Paradise’ and ‘Colour’ featuring Hailee Steinfeld. - Spotify

NOOOOOO I hoped this would go higher! It deserves to be just as big as Head & Heart, such a banger

Agreed.

Good to see this climbing. :D
Guys on the irish chart they've credited The Joker and The QUeen to ed alone, not ed/ Taylor or Ed ft. Taylor so I feel like it'll be the same on the UK chart later

Where Did You Go is nothing special but very catchy, I can see why its climbing.

I do kind of like the ATB vibe as well.

Biography

All it took for Tate McRae to make the jump from international dance phenom to teenage pop sensation was a viral YouTube video—and a whole lot of talent, of course. After spending most of her childhood racking up competitive-dance awards, as well as reaching the finals on the 13th season of the television show So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation, the young Canadian surprised fans by uploading an original song to her already popular channel. Titled “One Day,” the captivatingly emotional ballad garnered millions of views by the end of 2017. More YouTube clips soon followed, each one marrying artful alt-pop melodies to beats and effects inspired by hip-hop and R&B that very much mirror her dancing style, itself a fusion of conservatory training with cutting-edge street moves. Another key quality—and a timeless one when it comes to teen pop—is a disarming honesty born out of being young and insecure. Add up these ingredients, and the result is a sound that shares quite a lot in common with the innovative future-looking pop of Billie Eilish, who along with her brother and collaborator FINNEAS penned “Tear Myself Apart,” the aching lead single from McRae’s first EP for RCA, 2019’s all the things i never said. The following year, the vocalist scored another hit with the self-penned “you broke me first,” a ferociously honest tale of heartache that proves that although dancing is what put McRae on the map, it’s music that has propelled her to stardom. - Apple Music

I didn't realise that Tate McRae was only 18! Thought she was much older for some reason based on 'You Broke Me First'.
Having heard Tate McCrae's new single now, I think it's better than You Broke Me First. Hope it climbs next week.
