Another cover which didn’t trouble the charts when released by Bolland & Bolland in 1982 but then turned into a massive hit for the Quo with some help from Noddy Holder of Slade.

NO 35- 128 POINTS

You Keep Me Hangin On Kim Wilde (Voter: JackJones- 29 pts, Jason- 14pts, Gezza- 27pts, Gooddelta- 5pts, AH Gold- 30pts, Bjork-23pts)

(#2 for 2 weeks in November 1986 behind “Take My Breath Away” by Berlin)

Wilde still has one entry left but this cover of the Supremes original certainly “80sfied” it into powerpop! AH Gold was so impressed they awarded it 30 points!

My 28 and 14 pointers have vanished today!

Beat Dis always be a dance classic! Superb

You Keep Me Hangin On is so much better than Kids in America imo. <_< I'm waiting for Popchartfreak comment saying 'YKMHO is a 60's song for me' :P

In The Army Now though.

Awwww at Bomb the Bass dropping out. Obviously it’s far higher than it would be on any normal #2 poll but I was hoping our collective taste would send it higher.

Kim Wilde’s cover is a good one. I possibly would have pointed it but ended up culling people with multiple entries unless they were total faves

Wow at that step up in points from 37 to 35! Bomb the Bass wouldn’t really have got any higher if I’d given it more than 2 then. It’s a great track - didn’t realise it had 30 samples. :o

You Keep Me Hangin On is a great song and was close to my votes.

I did think the days would be numbered for 'Beat Dis' - great result for that! Now just 'Crockett's Theme' that I can't believe is still to come, intrigued to see where its points came from.
I didn't think In The Army Now would do that well! I really enjoy the song (never heard the original though), didn't particularly enjoy that they changed it to a pro-war song for the British Army a few decades later

all of those are great, Kylie's best 80's single not one she does on her many tours I've seen, she's fab in concert such a showgirl, love Kim Wilde doing anything (and yes Jason the song is a 1966 love for me, but covers are of the decade they hit in, it just missed out on getting points  ) but Kids In America, Cambodia or You Came are my faves. I'm seeing her for the 5th time in 4 months, she's always a delight.

Quo's In The Army Now is their best record, spine-tingling anti-war song, have I mentioned I've seen The Quo back in the day? Beat Dis is a great dance record, and 2 I voted for leave the list, doh! Holiday was the first Madonna record I bought, in 1984 while she was still a cult dance act. She was great, the record is great, and it's always an anthem in concert. That'll be why it was a top 10 three times, then. Have I mentioned I've seen her in concert 3or 4 times? And They Don't Know is also fab, Kirsty was fab, and this version is fab and the video featured the original Fab, Paul McCartney. Who I have also seen in concert. Tracey never toured, but I would have bought a ticket if she had.

So this top 40 is very much to my tastes so far! :D

oh 3 great songs with great memories attached

the Kim Wilde single is one of the first 7" singles I bought as a kid, great cover and one of her best singles ever if not her best

definitely a million miles better than the overrated Kids in America

I also remember coercing my parents to buy me the Status Quo album, which in truth was not that great

but the single was worth it, big favourite

Looks like I forgot to vote for Beat Dis, which I also love and it's a great track

'In The Army Now' that high really? (It's not terrible but I definitely wouldn't have expected that many people to vote for it and for it to be ahead of the likes of 'Holiday' and 'Girls Just Want To Have Fun').

Now an Olympic anthem, this was almost a No 1 had they not been out of the country whilst in the charts meaning they weren't available for TOTP and lost out by 7k.

Eddy’s homage to Brixton ended up nearly replicating its predecessor but for the pesky Men At Work.

Top 30 revealed tomorrow but two more voters 30 pointers will fall before we get there

Just like ‘ABBA Gold’, Spandau Ballet’s ‘Gold’ also helps me to release endorphins *.* I think it stems back to a time in school where we did this cheesy ‘Going for Gold’ style assembly, with that song as the grand finale  and it continued to associate with good times going forward. I also wish it had been their #1 over ‘True’!

I was introduced to ‘Electric Avenue’ via the Ringbang remix, shame that isn’t on streaming.

amazed people like Spandau Ballet, zero fan :D

I've endured Spandau in concert many times (my mate is a lifetime fan) and Gold was one of their better ones till it got endlessly played on TV ads till i can't bear hearing it anymore. To cut a long story short I prefer Chant Number 1 as their best record. :teresa:

Love Eddy Grant, was an Equals fan back in the 60's and was mad on Viva Bobby Joe and Baby Come Back. For his reggae stuff, though, Living On The Frontline and Do You feel My Love are my faves. Electric Avenue has a great riff, but the best song of all is Walking On Sunshine. Not the Katrina song, it's the forgotten Rockers Revenge version of Eddy's song from 1982, totally fabulous, and deserves to be better remembered.

I also much prefer Chant No. 1 (and To Cut A Long Story Short) from Spandau Ballet, and Rockers Revenge - Walking On Sunshine is an absolute classic. Those two #2s are OK though, but goodness knows how I still have 21 of my votes to come including my entire top 12 :o I expect I'll lose at least one of those tomorrow.

A massive 10 voters for this one- a new rate record which also gets AaronTM’s 30 points.
