But for Lady Gaga—one of popular culture’s greatest, most extravagant creations—the inauthenticity is the point. No artist has more defiantly embodied that provocation this century than the one born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta (in New York in 1986). Never wedded to the same image—one minute wearing a dress made of raw meat at the MTV VMAs, the next a coat of Kermit the Frog puppets on German TV—Gaga personifies pop’s surface obsessions while simultaneously upending them. In a sense, her creative identity had crystallized by age 21, having been a child pianist, aspiring actor, and burlesque performer. Each of these facets powered her career’s most distinct parts: the celebrity fascination of her first two albums, 2008’s The Fame and 2009’s The Fame Monster; the subversive layering of 2011’s Born This Way and 2013’s ARTPOP; the sincere reverence of 2014’s Cheek to Cheek, her jazz standards album with Tony Bennett; and the rootsier songwriting of 2016’s Joanne. If 2009’s “Paparazzi” reveled in the flashes, then “Born This Way” celebrated inner light: In translating her diffuse identity into world-conquering art, Gaga has become a beacon to anyone else who’s felt like an outsider. Her loyal following—a.k.a. Little Monsters—has affirmed a deep connection to her message of self-love and self-expression, despite pop’s fickleness and her chameleonic exterior. She played out a simpler version of her path to fame in the 2018 remake of A Star Is Born: But while her character’s ascent was abetted by her lover, Gaga’s was all her own. - Apple Music Top 100 Chart History 2009 01 Just Dance (feat. June 24, 20224 yr Author 26 | 21 | 20th week Tate McRae she's all i wanna be 2nd single from i used to think i could fly Released: 4th February 2022 Label: RCA Records Chart Statistics NE (17/02/2022) | 24-29-28-24-27-27-21-16-16-17-14-16-16-16-19-15-19-21-21-26 Sales: 200k+ Certification: Silver Status: Standard Chart Ratio 19 Sales 20 Audio Streaming 37 Video Streaming Video uS_y_65CcpA Biography All it took for Tate McRae to make the jump from international dance phenom to teenage pop sensation was a viral YouTube video—and a whole lot of talent, of course. After spending most of her childhood racking up competitive-dance awards, as well as reaching the finals on the 13th season of the television show So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation, the young Canadian surprised fans by uploading an original song to her already popular channel. Titled “One Day,” the captivatingly emotional ballad garnered millions of views by the end of 2017. More YouTube clips soon followed, each one marrying artful alt-pop melodies to beats and effects inspired by hip-hop and R&B that very much mirror her dancing style, itself a fusion of conservatory training with cutting-edge street moves. Another key quality—and a timeless one when it comes to teen pop—is a disarming honesty born out of being young and insecure. Add up these ingredients, and the result is a sound that shares quite a lot in common with the innovative future-looking pop of Billie Eilish, who along with her brother and collaborator FINNEAS penned “Tear Myself Apart,” the aching lead single from McRae’s first EP for RCA, 2019’s all the things i never said. The following year, the vocalist scored another hit with the self-penned “you broke me first,” a ferociously honest tale of heartache that proves that although dancing is what put McRae on the map, it’s music that has propelled her to stardom. - Apple Music Top 100 Chart History 2020 03 you broke me first -1- MILLIONAIRE 2021 46 You (Regard, Troye Sivan & Tate McRae) 2021 82 that way -1- 2021 52 feel like shit -1- 2022 14 she's all i wanna be -2- 2022 36 chaotic -PS- 2021 84 what would you do? -3- 0 x #1 | 1 x Top 5 | 1 x Top 10 | 2 x Top 20 | 3 x Top 40 | 7 x Top 100 Social Media Tate McRae http://i.imgur.com/1SERq1f.png

June 24, 20224 yr Author 25 | 18 | 2nd week D-Block Europe and Ghost Killer Track Elegant & Gang 2nd single from forthcoming studio album Released: 9th June 2022 Label: D-Block Europe Chart Statistics NE (23/06/2022) | 18-25 Sales: 10k+ Certification: - Status: Standard Chart Ratio __ Sales 32 Audio Streaming 03 Video Streaming Video VRc0PH7pHGs Biography D-Block Europe “We’re the ones that are pushing this boundary,” D-Block Europe’s Young Adz told Apple Music. “People who are signing urban music over here—they call it urban, we call it pop in the streets—that ain’t street music. We’re doing street, UK, wavy music, front-lining it.” They might not consider themselves pop, but by the most literal definition, DBE are just that. Chart positions, sold-out arenas and a nomination for the 2020 BRIT Award for British Group (before they’d even released a debut album) all make them one of UK rap’s most popular acts. D-Block Europe was originally a collective that called upon various London MCs, but Adz and childhood friend Dirtbike LB have emerged as both the engine room and executive board of the operation. They met at Sedgehill School in South London, where Adz was dropping mixtapes from the age of 13. He signed an ultimately fruitless major-label deal at 15 before coming under the patronage of NY rap heavyweight Jadakiss, who offered features, support slots and license to use The LOX’s D-Block Records name. With a series of self-released singles and mixtapes, Young Adz and Dirtbike LB took their place at UK rap’s top table during the late 2010s. Leavening trap’s chilly textures and portraits of road life with sticky Auto-Tuned hooks, their music is notable for its nimble wordplay and candour. While D-Block quickly gathered notoriety for their unfiltered bedroom braggadocio (“Kitchen Kings”), their willingness to open up about mental health and therapy (“Prescription Drugs”) has made them a standout presence in UK rap. It’s all been done independently by the industrious duo (63 new tracks released across three mixtapes during 2019 alone). They’ve continuously waved away offers from labels, confident that no one can guide their career as well as they can. Every award, Top 5 release or filled arena only strengthens their self-belief. “When you see Messi kick ball, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime thing,” said Young Adz. “Sometimes, the people have to choose you because they’re like, ‘We ain’t never going to see this again—from their sounds, from what they talk about.’ Our personalities shine through our music. We’re bigger personalities than rappers.” - Apple Music Ghost Killer Track French rap hasn’t seen a jack-of-all-trades hitmaker quite like Ghost Killer Track. Throughout the 2010s, the producer worked behind the scenes, crafting forward-thinking beats for some of the city’s biggest street rappers before realising he could bring those artists into his own world. Growing up in the suburbs of Paris, he picked up beatmaking from his older brother. Then, at the turn of the 2010s, he fell in love with Chicago drill, the big, brash style of rap peddled by Young Chop, Chief Keef and other rising MCs overseas. Ghost Killer Track networked around the Paris scene, making deep connections. In 2018, he put out the loaded compilation tape Slimer Alchemists 2, establishing himself among the star rappers while remaining a sought-after producer. His 2021 summer smash “Tonight” with D-Block Europe and OBOY turned him into a bonafide pop star, laying out a future path for French rap producers that’s a lot brighter than it once was. - Apple Music Top 100 Chart History D-Block Europe 2018 49 Gucci Mane (D-Block Europe & Yxng Bane) -1- 2018 35 Nassty (D-Block Europe, Young Adz, Dirtbike LB & Lil Pino) -NAS- 2018 80 Tell The Truth (The Plug presents D-Block Europe & Rich The Kid) 2019 16 Kitchen Kings -1- 2019 62 Kettle Pouring -AT- 2019 70 Running Man -AT- 2019 20 Home P*ssy -1- 2019 53 Rich (The Plug presents D-Block Europe & Offset) 2019 16 Nookie (feat. June 24, 20224 yr Author 24 | 19 | 4th week Calvin Harris, Dua Lipa and Young Thug Potion 1st single from Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2 Released: 27th May 2022 Label: Sony Music Entertainment UK Chart Statistics NE (09/06/2022) | 16-20-19-24 Sales: 50k+ Certification: - Status: Standard Chart Ratio 14 Sales 27 Audio Streaming 55 Video Streaming Video FFV6t4Dl_zQ Biography Calvin Harris Talk about an unexpected career trajectory. In 2007, 23-year-old Calvin Harris released I Created Disco, a cheeky shot across dance music’s bow that presented him as Scotland’s brow-arched answer to LCD Soundsystem. Fast-forward a few years, and the scruffy fellow playing house-party host in the “Merrymaking at My Place” video is suddenly baring oil-slicked abs on Calvin Klein billboards. What happened, of course, is that Harris (born Adam Richard Wiles in 1984) traded up from the Amiga computer of his teens, developed some of the best studio chops in the business with deep-house rollers like 2013's “Thinking About You,” and helped spark EDM’s pop crossover with hits for Rihanna, Florence Welch, Ellie Goulding, and others. Along the way, he became one of the 2010s’ first DJ/producer/songwriter polymaths to earn top billing even on the songs in which he didn’t sing. No stranger to pyro-lit main stages—his percussive, synth-strafed 2014 single “C.U.B.A.” is big-room house at its most gargantuan—Harris has resisted getting boxed into any one sound. On 2017’s Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1, he lays down a set of slinky R&B jams for Frank Ocean, Migos, and Young Thug, while the 2018 singles “Promises,” with Sam Smith, and “One Kiss,” with Dua Lipa, proved just how versatile his vision of pop can be. - Apple Music Dua Lipa There’s purpose in Dua Lipa’s euphoric pop. “For me, it’s about championing women and putting ourselves in the position of power,” the singer told Apple Music in 2020, ahead of the release of her second album, Future Nostalgia. “I have been inspired by the female alphas that have shown me that we can do it. And that we can wear the pants, you know? We need more of that in music.” Forcing the world to get a little more comfortable with female alphas has been a mission statement for Lipa (born in London to Kosovar Albanian parents in 1995) since her 2017 self-titled debut. It housed the triumphant breakup smash “New Rules”, the self-love anthem “IDGAF” and the assured “Hotter Than Hell”—songs which made it clear that this was no ingénue, but rather an outspoken, effortlessly cool face of pop’s future. Indeed, that status was cemented a year later when Lipa made history as the first female solo artist to receive five BRIT Award nominations. She won two and, in 2019, added two Grammys to her mantelpiece. Despite the success of her debut, Lipa wasn’t interested in recreating its hits. “People always say, ‘The second album is really scary,’ but for me, it’s more scary to go back into the studio and try to create something like ‘New Rules’ or ‘IDGAF’ over and over again,” she said. “I feel like I’d end up in a vicious cycle of trying to get somewhere but never being able to mature as an artist.” And so, to move forward, she pivoted to the past, drawing on disco and funk—and filtering it through her ahead-of-its-time pop—to arrive at Future Nostalgia. Decadent and every bit as empowering as those early hits, it brought Lipa her first Mercury Prize nod, multiple Grammy nominations and a rightful place in pop’s upper echelons. And with it, too, came Lipa’s new purpose. Released just as the world went into lockdown amid the coronavirus crisis, Future Nostalgia became an urgent tonic for tough times—danced to in living rooms across the world. Yet Lipa wasn’t done there: Five months later, she unveiled Club Future Nostalgia, a thrilling remixed version on which the singer teamed up with club queen The Blessed Madonna, and guests including Madonna, Missy Elliott, Gwen Stefani and Mark Ronson, to bring lockdown-fatigued listeners another dose of escapism. “I didn’t think I’d be putting albums out during a global pandemic,” added Lipa. “But it’s just about creating experiences for everyone at home. That’s the most important thing for me now.” All of this, of course, is only just the beginning. “I really feel like I’m finding my feet,” said Lipa. “I feel so proud of Future Nostalgia as a whole and the most confident and the most myself making it. But I’m already planning the next move.” - Apple Music Young Thug You don’t get a lot of warning for an artist like Young Thug. From his warped delivery to his radical, gender-fluid fashion sense, the Atlanta rapper (born Jeffery Lamar Williams in 1991) flies in the face of every unspoken rule for what hip-hop is, should, and could be. Starting with a prolific run of mixtapes in the early 2010s, Thug rose by pioneering a weird, ever-shifting flow somewhere between singing, rapping, mumbling and squawking—pushing rap forward by pulling it apart. But the weirdest thing about what he does is that it works: Nearly every project Thug’s released since 2015—from the reggae-inflected JEFFREY to the country-ish sides of Beautiful Thugger Girls—has cracked the mainstream, laying the groundwork for a new crop of fellow eccentrics like Lil Uzi Vert and Playboi Carti. In other words, Thug hasn’t adjusted to convention but brought convention to him. Genuinely experimental, he frames his process in modest terms: “I’m in the studio so much, I’ll just try stuff,” he told The FADER in 2013. “I just think and try, think and try.” - Apple Music Top 100 Chart History Calvin Harris 2007 10 Acceptable In The 80s -1- 2007 03 The Girls -2- 2007 43 Merrymaking At My Place -3- 2008 01 Dance Wiv Me (Dizzee Rascal feat. June 24, 20224 yr Chart flashback - Pet Shop Boys released It's A Sin 35 years ago this week Wow, has it been that long :)
June 24, 20224 yr Stay The Night sounds like something that would have been huge in maybe 2015 - it's decent, just very generic. Sigala was definitely a lot better than this in 2015.
June 24, 20224 yr I don’t mind potion but it’s clearly a weak effort from the three of them and they can all do so so much better, so not complaining about it dropping out the top 20.
