Biography

Sam Ryder’s soulful and spectacular voice blasts off like fireworks all throughout his pristine pop music. The Essex-based singer is a true 21st-century success story: after years of playing in rock and metal bands and trying to break into the songwriting game in Nashville, Ryder took to posting cover songs to the internet during the 2020 pandemic lockdowns, and quickly caught the attention of stars like Sia and Justin Bieber. In short order, he skyrocketed to social media stardom—and it’s not hard to hear why. Although 2019’s “Set You Free”, on which he showcased his impressive vocal acrobatics over soft guitar chimes, hinted at what was to come, his post-lockdown work is where he really shines. The soaring and impassioned “More” (2021) explores his metal influences, and The Sun’s Gonna Rise EP offers the best of his poignant originals thus far, such as the melancholy “Whirlwind” and the sun-blasted “July”. - Apple Music

"Peru" is currently the biggest song of 2022

Wait, really? I thought it would've been either Bruno or Harry.

Biography

Nathan Dawe is fast-becoming one of the UK’s most talked-about new dance acts. Buoyed by a huge fan base in Birmingham and the Midlands, Nathan’s regional pull has seen him sell-out 3000-capacity headline shows in the city’s 02 Academy, as well as curate the first ever, one-day 0121 Fest in the summer of 2019. That pull is now starting to transmit nationwide, with Nathan’s single ‘Flowers’ ft. Birmingham rapper Jaykae – a fresh twist on the UK Garage classic — spending 11 weeks inside the UK Top 20, peaking at #12 earlier this summer. Nathan’s new single ‘Lighter’ ft. KSI went straight to #1 on iTunes on launch and the official video, which also features Window Kid, S-X and Lotto Boyz’s Ash, racked up over 3.5 million views in its first 48 hours – it’s already shaping up to be one of the records of 2020. Both singles follow Nathan’s first Atlantic Records singles ‘Cheatin’ and ‘Repeat After Me’ ft. Melissa Steel, both of which spotlighted his ability to write crisp, infectious dance music. - Spotify

I think this could go Top 10 when there is an inevitable ACR.clearout soon and the Drake songs fade away.

Biography

When George Miller became the first Asian-born solo artist to top the hip-hop and R&B charts in late 2018, his feelings were mixed. On the one hand, he was proud—who wouldn’t be? Not only were people listening to his music, but he’d also become the face of something bigger than himself, a new chapter in the changing narrative of race and representation in pop music. On the other hand, it wasn’t like he’d ever thought of himself as an Asian artist before—just an artist. Still, he considered himself a guest of the culture. And like any good guest, he wanted to carry himself with respect. Or, as he once joked, to take off his shoes when he came into the house.

Born in Osaka in 1992, Miller got his start as the creator of two irreverent and highly popular YouTube personalities, Filthy Frank and Pink Guy—projects that didn’t necessarily reflect his artistic ambitions, but proved his firm handle on the fluid vernacular of internet culture. Since debuting Joji in late 2017, Miller has become a key voice in a clique of younger hip-hop and R&B artists—including his peers in the 88rising collective—who have managed to connect as seamlessly with Asian audiences as with American ones, a reflection of both the changing demographics of global culture and the border-free nature of life online. And his music—moody, downcast ballads and sleek electro-pop—only underscores the idea that in an increasingly digital world, where you’re from is less important than what you’re into. - Apple Music

It took over Bruno the other week and Harry is coming for the top seller in a few weeks!

I was hoping Bruno then it would be the first best selling single sung by characters from an animated movie/TV show since Bob the Builder in 2000.

Fair play to Harry getting back to the #1 album slot. A slight relief to know Foals would have missed out regardless of the surprise Drake drop.

Shame The Smile couldn't hang onto #4 but at least they stayed top 5 to secure that 10 second chart show exposure - reckon they would have got #3 with a coordinated first week release then? Haven't ever listened to a Radiohead album in full but I really enjoyed this one (it is basically a Radiohead album in all but name, a couple of the songs are literally previously unreleased songs Radiohead have performed live).
