All That I Need was great for me - a breezy and uplifting pop song quite reminiscent of some Bee Gees stuff, yet an original song for once.

It has to be You Needed Me, a complete dirge of a cover and although I wasn’t massive on Look At Me by Geri either, to this day I have no idea how she was beaten to No.1 by that track - their status at the time I guess but her song felt much more ubiquitous.

no offence to all their fans and happy childhood memories but kids were clearly being targeted and brainwashed by the evil UK music corporations around xmas 1993. All together now, (simper) Babe......I'm here again....BLOBBY! BLOBBY! BLOBBY!

Those under five at the time are forgiven, though :D Everyone between 10 and 20 should have been buying I Wouldn't Normally Do This Kind Of Thing (Pet Shop Boys) instead. It's Alright (East 17), or even Twist & Shout (Chake Demus & Pliers) are acceptable alternatives. Those old enough to remember the 60's were busy buying For Whom The Bell Tolls (Bee Gees) and Pet Shop Boys so we shall remain blameless :)

PS the original version of You Needed me is lovely, Anne Murray had a warm voice to melt the coldest heart (ask Family Guy's creators). The cover version is an acceptable replacement for A Different Beat...

I don't think these songs deserve to be included in the list:

Right Said Fred - Deeply Dippy (1992)

Mr Blobby - Mr Blobby (1993) (I have so many good childish memories associated with it) :D

Outhere Brothers - Don’t Stop (Wiggle Wiggle) (1995)

Boyzone - A Different Beat (1996)

911 - A Little Bit More (1999)

Spacedust - Gym And Tonic (1998) (Literally a gym guity pleasure) :P

The Townhouse radio edit of Don't Stop (Wiggle Wiggle), which radio played and appears on Now 30, is a worthwhile tune. Unfortunately the only version available on digital platforms is the sweary racket.

^blasphemy :D

maybe you can do a poll x whats the worst Boyzone #1? as everyone seems to suggest different ones

Good idea! Feel free to make one :D

I thought there was more or less a consensus around You Needed Me as a replacement for A Different Beat.

Westlife's could be harder to pin down however...

There were only 4 Westlife number 1s in the 90s and to be fair, they aren’t bad.

I maintain When The Going Gets Tough is Boyzones worst number 1.

My mum was playing the original of 'You Needed Me' a couple of weeks ago. Lovely version. Boyzone's not great but I don't dislike it either. They have better! ;)

Consider me agog at people slandering 'Flat Beat'. Especially you Rich!

The only ones from the OP that I'd particularly defend are Spacedust and maybe Mel B - there are a few others there that I kind of enjoy too but only in a novelty way and can definitely see why people would consider them awful #1s.

Ha, yeah I’m not sure why I just never got into it. I don’t dislike it as much as I used to at least!

On Westlife, as much as it pained me that If I Let You Go edged out Alice Deejay by circa 500 sales, that was probably the best one for me. I’d go with one of the Christmas No.1 covers, but neither were as awful as some of the stuff they put out in the 00s.

just realised Westlife also had this #1 with their cover of Mandy in like 2003 I think, that has to be their worst #1 ever

even worst than the Mariah duet

I'm all for songs without melodies - Milkshake, Firestarter - but Flat Beat just grates.
Why is Mel B and Aqua Doctor Jones there?! Bonified SMASHES that helped define their era.
Where arw Westshite?! They arw utter TRASH. All their cheap, manipulatwd, bland, karaoke no.1s shouñd be bere. Every last one.

90s only - they had 4 number 1s in 1999 and up their other number 1s those were all ‘decent’
