Ahhh don’t! I did Marketing at uni because I wanted to go into music marketing but alas it never happened haha!

It’s very quiet in Mel’s camp but I’m sure they have a couple of tricks left (acoustic / remix digital) and potentially a bundled signed poster or something?

She could even sign the postcard set and bundle it with a CD/Cassette to be honest.

Sounds like it would have been perfect for you. 🫂 You know all the tricks.

I studied Media and Cultural Studies with the intention of working in the media and even worked for MTV News for a bit... I am now a teacher so I get you. 😭😅

Nope, Drum Machine and What could possibly go wrong are the best two for me.

Same as Carolyna, Think about it, Anymore and Who I am were all the best tracks on their respective albums. She generally releases the stronger ones in my opinion (we can ignore Better alone lol)

I’ll always NOT love Think About It. The screaming song. It gives me headache.

Even Next Best Superstar was a better choice. And that says a lot.

Listening now to Sweat and my faves so far are:

Drum Machine

Emotional Memory

Flick of the Wrist

Free to Love

Pressure

One Track Mind

Good for Nothing

Starting to love Cashmere as well.

7,265.

The fact that she's about to double that in the first week is just woah

What? I forgot about that. That’s an improvement for sure.

Why isn't there a London signing? She would get lots of sales.

She’s got 2 London signings - Rough Trade East and West.

I think it's probably down to the fact multi-formatting wasn't such a big thing in 2020 as it is now.

I mean she did have quite a lot of variants for Melanie C album too. 4 vinyl variants from what I recall, 2 CD variants and a cassette. I wouldn't say there is massively more editions this time round? There is however the signings and the shows.

I think she will throw everything at this now throughout the week seeing she is in with a huge chance of achieving her highest charting album and possible first top 3.

I think there are 12 variants for Sweat:

CD [Standard]

CD [Spice Boys Edition]

CD [HMV Alternate Artwork]

Vinyl [Black]

Vinyl [Orange]

Vinyl [Opaque Orange]

Vinyl [Yellow & Orange Sunburst]

Cassette [Pink]

Cassette [Orange]

Cassette [Yellow]

Download [Standard]

Download [Digital Deluxe]

OMG thank GOD that I am not the only one who can't stand Think About It... she screams so much on that song, it is so grating... for me, it is one of her worst precisely because the vocal production is terrible.

I generally think she does ok with the first singles but then goes a bit south with the follow ups, since Northern Star where it was the other way around.

She does have some absolute clunkers as singles, bless her (they all do to be honest lol). I Want Candy was awful, Rock Me was awful, If That Were Me, TAB.... Will never forget how she launched her self-titled album, after 3 back to back great singles, with THE WORST SONG ON THE ALBUM: Fearless.... what the hell where they all thinking??? lol

Anyway, great that she has already overcome the barrier of the 10,000 copies in the UK... some of her latest albums didnt even cross that as far as we know...

I've got the 'alt' Spice Boys edition CD, marked MELANIECCD3 on the spine and disc.

The booklet has MELANIECCD1, but as it has names of the Spice Boys listed I think that it's the correct booklet.

That same “MELANIECCD1” booklet is included in all the CDs, it seems. So the Spice Boys are credited on CDs that they’re not shown on lol. It’s in the HMV CD, which is MELANIECCD4. It’s also in the Amazon signed artcard version - technically MELANIECCD2, but that’s only shown on a sticker placed over the barcode. Otherwise that CD packaging says MELANIECCD1.

So in summary, there’s CDs with CD1/CD3/CD4 printed on them, while CD2 uses CD1 packaging - and all have the CD1 booklet!

There's another vinyl available from Amazon - Red & Yellow splatter!

MELANIECLP1: Black

MELANIECLP2: Opaque Orange (Indie/HMV)

MELANIECLP3: Translucent Orange/Gatefold/Signed (Official Artist Store)

MELANIECLP4: Red & Yellow Splatter (Amazon)

BLOOD593: Yellow & Orange Sunburst/Alternate Artwork (Blood Records)

Overall:

5 Vinyl

3 CDs (or technically 4, if the Amazon signed artcard version is counted as being a separate item)

3 Cassettes

2 Downloads

1 Lanyard (technically speaking that's a third download variant)

(Edit: I forgot that there is a test pressing vinyl)

What I find really frustrating is how many of these are locked behind UK-only restrictions.

The Amazon exclusive vinyl? UK only.

The alternate artwork CD? HMV exclusive… UK only.

The coloured cassettes and even things like the postcard bundles on the official store? Also UK only.

And that’s what makes it worse… the official store (Townsend) does ship internationally for other items, so this isn’t even a shipping limitation. These restrictions feel completely intentional.

I get that there are probably exclusivity deals and licensing agreements behind all of this, but as an international fan it’s honestly really frustrating to be locked out of so many versions.

At this point it feels like you basically have to live in the UK to fully collect this era… which is a bit disappointing, to be honest.

So there’s about double the amount of variants to the last one

I’ve only got the blood records one so far

Mel was live on Banquets insta signing the personalised albums and she has a ton of them to do (and encouraging new orders) so hopefully lots more sales to come.

I think that is my favourite one cover wise. The Amazon splatter is the most striking vinyl though.

For now, here's my Top 5

  1. Emotional Memory

  2. Undefeated Champion

  3. What Could Possibly Go Wrong?

  4. Healing

  5. Free To Love
