so after Jack Harlow doing a song called Dua Lipa, and Central Cee - Doja

now we have a song called Billie Eilish :D :o

This song is actually older than those two (it was released a couple of weeks after 'Dua Lipa' but it had a snippet out as early as February).

Lizzo's song 'Coldplay' not quite attracting a similar level of attention :P

Any particular reason behind Die For You?

TikTok?

"Die For You" has been lingering a while thanks to TikTok I believe. It's been doing better in the US (currently #21 there with a peak of #13, also #18 on US Apple Music) and was released to US radio a few weeks back. It looks like they're pushing it as a single in the US, so wouldn't be surprised if it starts climbing a bunch in the UK as it picks up playlist support. A music video was released late last year as well on November (a bit random). I'm hoping it'll be a hit so they can push "Less Than Zero" from Dawn FM after with some momentum.

Wow it seems bizarre that they are actually actively pushing a track from Starboy all these years later but I suppose it's worthwhile if it's already going viral. Also +1 on the call for Less Than Zero to be pushed as a single from Dawn FM please.

I'm just waiting for one of these artists to record a song named after the artist who recorded a song named after them e.g. Dua dropping a song called 'Jack Harlow'

Would be some nice chart inception.

Sam smiths new song that’s out next Friday sounds good with Kim Petras

*Waits for U.S TikTok to discover Sigma - Nobody To Love which remixes part of that song*

Is that Kordhell song an YNW Melly remix?
No.

It's interestingly enough the mainstream breakthrough of a new EDM sub-genre called "phonk", great song too, shame it's not really taking off beyond going low top 100 in the OCC chart

I don't like the title of the song. In terms of production I am used to overdriven/distorted synth production like that because of BJSC/Club Bizarre but it must sound very different and unusual to anyone not used to those effects.

They played a track by an artist called 'Self Esteem' with very overdriven/distorted synths on BBC Breakfast this morning, it must have sounded strange to most viewers of that show!

Didn't know Lizzo had a song called Coldplay

her explanation about it is genius:

This song was literally created from a 45-minute freestyle to a piano loop. Ricky Reed had me sit in the booth and just talk, so I started romanticising about this trip I’d just taken to Tulum, about the experiences I’d had and how I was singing Coldplay and crying. A few weeks later, he was like, ‘Hey, you remember that freestyle you said in the booth? I wrote a song using your words.’ He played me a track that sampled Coldplay’s “Yellow” and I was like, ‘Whoa, this is crazy.’ Ricky was like, ‘We should call this “My Love Is You”.’ And I was like, ‘Nah, we should call it “Coldplay”.’ Because I’m going to tell you: Black people call people the name of their band. We call Adam Levine ‘Maroon 5’. ‘Oh, there goes Maroon 5.’ I thought there was something funny and real about calling a song that samples Coldplay “Coldplay”. Their songwriting is so simple and poetic. So I was like, ‘Let’s honour them. Let’s not run from it.’ On this album, I didn’t run from anything. If there’s a thesis to this album, it’s that. Embracing myself.

This dance track from 2011 entered at #1 on the Spotify viral chart yesterday, it may well enter the proper chart soon:

Listening now and I'm not really a fan of this on first listen :(Which is a shame as I really liked 'Thunder Bay' by them about 10 years ago (which I heard on Nick Grimshaw late night radio 1 back then!)

Hudson Mohawke <3 I just sent him to BJSC last month, the tastemaker *.* His new album is AMAZING.

This song is not a big fave of mine but it has gone viral for a very funny reason if you look it up, via a Reddit thread that was shared on TikTok. I had a feeling the thread would lead people to seek out the song, which I guess is musically in the same lane as something like Harlem Shake.

Oh I got a YouTube notification of HudMo uploading that song to his channel but I assumed it was something off the new album, didn't realise it was an old song - I am very here for him getting a chart hit though please! (He / his duo TNGHT have had some success before as a producer for hip-hop artists, most notably Kanye West).

I didn't see that viral Reddit thread yet, lol though ~

Phonk actually originally came from the Memphis hip-hop / trap scene (Three 6 Mafia et al) but I think it has gradually shifted in a more electronic direction over time and is pretty similar to witch house these days. Kind of like how trap itself was both a hip-hop subgenre and an electronic sub-genre I guess.

Curiously enough I was Googling Kordhell the other day and discovered it's a side project of a member of black metal / grindcore (!) band Make Them Die Slowly so the background of this song comes from a pretty bizarre mishmash of genres!
