Kwarteng has just stated that he cannot guarantee that benefits will go up in line with inflation but apparently the state pension will do the Triple lock which will be inflationary as that will def be the biggest of the three measures (2.5%, wages and inflation) So yet again the elderly get preferential treatment over the young - because they vote Tory, no other reason. Generational and class war with these gits. Youngest in society are treated with contempt.

They are completely screwed and do not realise if they give an inflation rise it will go straight back in to the economy. They are truly f***ed, they will try and hold on until Jan 2025 I suspect (with the fixed term act abolished) but they are truly screwed. If the housing market goes tits up, I don't think we will see this part of the Tory Party ever for a generation.

If we wanna look at some form of trickle economics, trickle UP economics are proven to be effective. A giant hike in benefits as Roo says will entirely flow into the economy. You’re talking about a group who are already using foodbanks so this money is going right on literal essentials and keeping the base level of the economy functioning
And as expected the vile right go on the attack by whipping up hatred against trans people. New obsession is about Eddie Izzard allegedly being elected on an all women's short list as an MP. The only issue is that there won't be any All Women's short lists for next election as they were dropped after legal advice in March this year (personally not been a fan of them although cam see their use in the past). So whilst the economy burns and people's pensions and mortgages collapse, fake items like that will be amplified even more.

A horrible issue and shows where the far right is going, but this kind of news is not making any airwaves. They can peddle whatever they want, but this stuff just isn't important to the general public in the current economic climate. Really feel the Tory Government has mis-read the room massively on loads of things over the past week. They are all braindead and have no clue what they are doing as they are driven by ideology. Turned in to Question Time for the first time in ages tonight and even the Tory voters were turning on them.

Glad you are saying that it is not mainstream. Difficult to know what is and what isn't nowadays - that kind of thing is very prevalent on GB News, Daily Mail and Telegraph etc which I am forced to endure everytime I visit my elderly parents. In fact they all are now starting to talk about the "Mainstream media" which doesn't include them which is encouraging in one way if true, but does smack a lot of US Fox News victimhood and how we are going that way. But think that's for another thread I might start over the weekend.

I think the public are smartening up and the media are too to these sorts of comments - so an example I would use in football is sportswashing. It still happens as States run football clubs, but fans and the media as questions and at least don't take what they are being fed as the gospel. You saw the same today with Truss and the media team delivering pre-determined scripts and peddling "this is a global crisis", but nobody really buys it as it is not. Literally all everyone is talking about is cost of living and mortage rates. I feel people are too wise these days for these "fake news" tactics employed - they did work for a while and did brainwash people, but not really sure they hold the same weight anymore.

There’s talk of CapEx being in line for swinging cuts to fund the unfunded tax cuts and stop the markets from imploding.

Which is some real smooth brain shit because borrowing for CapEx is the one form of gov borrowing that gets the markets off. They love it. It’s the best growth driver a gov has

I watched Question Time last night. It was based in Manchester and the majority in the audience were conservative voters. Many were extremely worried about the future. I think the Tories are in big trouble now and they know it. They have no credible answers or solutions to the problems we are facing.

GET THEM OOOUUUTTT!!!!!

DISGRQCE THAT BLOJO WON IN THE FIRST PLACE. OUT OUT OUT!!!!

Of course they were Tory voters on Tory Time!! Full of Tory plants, and that AWFUL host riles up the audience vs panelists on the left before starting.

When the Tories lose power, whenever that may be, they need to be destroyed as a political party. Absolutely ground into the dirt, the dirt salted/set fire to and never allowed to ever again be anywhere near power.

The UK is still reeling from the impact of Osbournes austerity (and will be until we rejoin the EU as Brexit was the culmination of the Osbourne economic era), there’s no way the UK could handle another round. Public services are already in dire shape as it is. This will just straight up shut services and destroy the NHS
I utterly hate them I do not understand how we have spent over 10 years under their rule! Utterly dreadful

PREACH

Catching up on the events - Gove seemed pretty scathing of the tax cuts and sounds like they will whip everyone to vote through the tax cuts come the spring.

Guess what's funny is she is acting like a dictator but in reality she doesn't have a large support of the Party. Looking forward to the Conference and everyone trying to peddle the line evertyhing is fine!

45p tax rate plan abandoned!

They must have worked out the numbers over the weekend and realised it wouldn’t likely pass. Very humiliating for the Government.
