September 19, 20222 yr I think 'I Ran' was entered to the BJSC 80s spin-off as well  great song - I recognise that, plus the Olivia, Alphaville, Depeche Mode and Vangelis picks. Looking forward to listening through this!
September 19, 20222 yr This is my first ever song contest of any kind on here so feeling trepidation but also excitement. Great to hear that Rollo thinks it’s a high standard. Looking forward to listening!
September 19, 20222 yr Well that’s a lot more recognisable artist names than I was expecting! Maybe I could have played it a bit safer after all. I am familiar with songs from A Flock of Seagulls, Vangelis and Alphaville (I think) but the rest seem to be discoveries. :cheer:
September 19, 20222 yr Author I think 'I Ran' was entered to the BJSC 80s spin-off as well. Oh, I didn't know that. I looked at the Spin-Off archive but it hasn't been updated since October 2016 so 'I Ran' wasn't on there. I joined in 2017 but hadn't started entering song contests until after the 80s spinoff which was early in 2017 I think.
September 19, 20222 yr Oh wow great list Was expecting more big names tbh I actually only know 2/3 songs and the PSB song I know cos of the 95 release didnt know it was originally from the 80s
September 19, 20222 yr 1. John Foxx - Underpass 6. Soft Cell - Memorabilia 7. A Flock Of Seagulls - I Ran 8. Vangelis - Blade Runner (End Titles) 13. Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark - Telegraph 15. Vicious Pink - Cccan't You See (French Extended Mix) 16. Alphaville - Forever Young 18. Book Of Love - Boy 19. Pet Shop Boys - Paninaro 21. A-Ha - Scoundrel Days 22. Camouflage - The Great Commandment 23. Depeche Mode - Strangelove ^^ I already know these but am pleased to say that I think all are great choices. I took a very brief flick through when checking the list before approving and I'm pretty excited to listen to them all properly over the voting period, it seemed like a pretty strong bunch to me ^_^
September 19, 20222 yr I know a couple of these and a few more of the artists but nothing overly well, hyped to get into this *.
September 19, 20222 yr 'Twist Of Fate' was also in the BJSC 80s spinoff! (Not to make a big deal of it, I'm sure no one is really bothered about songs being reused from that, but just noting). Aside from knowing those two songs from that spinoff I think the only other one here I know is 'Forever Young' although even with that I am more familiar with the Jay-Z/Mr Hudson version to be fair (and Becky Hill I guess lol) - I see the original didn't actually chart at all in the UK surprisingly although I imagine most people should be at least somewhat familiar with it already so am a little surprised that was allowed through but fair enough! Of course a handful more fairly obvious artist choices but not recognising any of the song choices for them at least from the titles. Always here for anything forcing me to expand my knowledge of Depeche Mode and Pet Shop Boys' discographies x
September 19, 20222 yr Blade runner is a clever pick. I thought it was released in the 70s but I see that's not true.
September 19, 20222 yr A bit early but I'd be glad to offer to host a SyncTube listenthrough for this contest at 8pm Wednesday if that would be ok with people - think it's probably best to get it done this week before the BJSC semis kick off! (I know there are a number of entrants here who don't enter the other song contests so would be nice if any are able to make it for that)
September 19, 20222 yr I'd be up for that. I generally don't enter any of the other contests due to not performing very well, historically. 🤪 I expect the same here. Edited September 19, 20222 yr by Colm
September 19, 20222 yr I'd be up for that. I generally don't enter any of the other contests due to not performing very well, historically. 🤪 I expect the same here. But the good thing is that entries are anonymous, so you have every same opportunity as everyone else to do well, it comes down to how well your song compares with what others have sent usually, so hopefully it can stand out a bit from the rest to finish in the top half! ;)
September 19, 20222 yr I only know 'Forever Young' via the cover obviously, pretty sure I've heard the original before though. 'I Ran' I'm sure I've heard too. Should be exciting hearing these especially songs by Depeche Mode and Pet Shop Boys which I haven't heard so obscure indeed!
September 21, 20222 yr I'll try to join this evening if I can but may be a bit intermittent... I'm genuinely intrigued how some of these songs will be received by people who can't remember them first time around and therefore don't have that rose tinted view of them
September 21, 20222 yr Shall be playing the songs in this room from 8pm ish! (May not start exactly on time but I won't delay excessively). https://sync-tube.de/room/ApAM3t-I
September 21, 20222 yr Voted! Naturally, an 80s synth theme did not disappoint. Floored by the discovery of the Hashim song as it's sampled in 'Beat Dis' by Bomb The Bass *.*
