Posted September 25, 20222 yr Exit poll should appear 10pm BST - this is a very worrying election as a coalition consisting of League's Mario Salvini and Forza Italia's Silvio Berlusconi and lead by Giorgia Meloni's (Brothers of Italy) looks set to win. Meloni could well be Italy's first female prime minister but she is virulently homophobic, anti immigration and regularly amplifies Nazi voices. What with Hungary's Orban and Sweden's recent win for the far right movement (not to mention UK's dangerous new leader) this is a very dangerous time for European politics. Let's see if the results are in line with the predictions though.

I guess the backdrop of inflation doesn't aid matters to push people for a change.
September 25, 20222 yr Author Could it not just be some Western European countries are following the same traction the UK/US have done? I guess the backdrop of inflation doesn't aid matters to push people for a change Oh agreed but going to that same dangerous place the UK/US is - well the jury about the US is out as they elected Biden and maybe the midterms will be good for the Dems. Anyway the exit poll is as expected. OK, the first exit poll is in, and it’s good news for Giorgia Meloni and the far-right Brothers of Italy. According to the Consorzio Opinio Italia poll for Rai, the rightwing coalition has won between 41-45% of the vote and the left alliance 25-29.%. That would give the right a majority in both houses.
September 25, 20222 yr @1574162770878255105 oof This really doesn't seem good, I've never looked to Italy as a bastion of good politics, a country that regularly gives Lega the time of day and continues to allow Berlusconi in politics is already not off to a good start, and the 5* have always seemed like a particularly vacuous centre force, but this is something else. 41% of the vote at least going to far-right parties. Orban's happy which means I'm very much not. Let's hope for instability and infighting between Brothers Of Italy, Lega and Forza.
September 26, 20222 yr The fact that all of the worst people in Europe are smug and happy with this is enough to tell you just how bad it is. DW was showing comments from all of the major Fash parties on the continent determined to drag us kicking and screaming back to the 1930s
September 26, 20222 yr It is Italy still. So I’d say it’ll either implode spectacularly in 15-18 months time or they’ll hold on through until 30-36 months when their popularity falls dramatically as reality of being unable to deliver unicorns bites and the rats start fleeing and making new parties. As is traditional.
September 26, 20222 yr Author Seen videos of this Meloni talking and she is really quite scary especially her attacks on LGBT so called "agenda" - like are they supposed to have less rights than straight people? She's like the Italian version of Marjorie Taylor Greene - of course the likes of the Telegraph, Nigel Farage and other right wing commentators are crowing about her coalition's win. The joke going around is that with so many EU countries going full on far right, the Tories will probably plan to rejoin next election!
September 26, 20222 yr Guys it’s Italy the government is so weak they get nothing done, that’s why fascism has never returned since the war!
