October 10, 20222 yr Author 'Melancholy Man' was a fab discovery for me too  Also really enjoyed the Emerson, Lake & Palmer 7 part marathon  and the Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd and George Harrison (ATMP) songs also stuck out as good discoveries, lots of classics on top of those as well of course, and a few not so good ones (cough shady Precision Tunes esque budget cover compilations, also Rod Stewart xx).
October 10, 20222 yr Funny cos with the ELO song, I managed to leave the house, go out to buy food, make a line, get the food, eat it on the way and return home and still hear half of the song :D

October 10, 20222 yr Do not confuse ELP with ELO. The ELO songs we will get to later on will be much shorter. Unless we get Concerto For A Rainy Day in full :D
October 11, 20222 yr How would people feel about nicking this slot a week on Sunday to listen to the final of the Worst #1 competition? Obvious objections: - We’ve heard all the songs before - It’s 2.5 hours of ear bleed However it would be a chance for other members to listen with some company before voting, particularly to the less well known pre 1980 tracks. And of course the whole idea for the rate did come about in these sessions so it feels sort of fitting. Alternatively Ed and I could run this on the Saturday instead for any gluttons for punishment and the albums session run as usual. Happy either way - just a suggestion.
October 11, 20222 yr If on the Saturday then maybe, but I wouldn't be too enthused about a whole session if it's at the expense of the albums on the Sunday. I think it was only the 1952-1979 heat which got significantly fewer voters than the other three heats, so alternatively you could have 30 minutes or so after the albums to play the 10 songs which went through from that?
October 11, 20222 yr Yeah I don't particular fancy listening to the worst of the worst #1 singles. As for Bonus tracks for the rest of the 70s I recommend Elton John - Honky Cat (from Honky Chateau) Simon & Garfunkel - The Sounds of Silence (from Greatest Hits) Focus - Hocus Pocus (from Moving Waves) Pink Floyd - Money (from The Dark Side of the Moon) Queen - Killer Queen (from Sheer Heart Attack) Stevie Wonder - Sir Duke (from Songs in the Key of Life) Eagles - Hotel California (from Hotel California) David Bowie - Sound and Vision (from Low) Jean Michel Jarre - Oxygene Pt. 4 (from Oxygene) Chic - Le Freak (from C'est Chic)
October 11, 20222 yr If we're avoiding #2 singles then Killer Queen and Sir Duke would be out. Maybe Pastime Paradise from Songs In The Key Of Life, i've only recently listened to that after Coolio's death tbh although I was aware it existed before so might be a new discovery for others too. Or Isn't She Lovely which would be the next most streamed song after Sir Duke? Definitely voting for a Hotel California play as well.
October 11, 20222 yr Not sure how far we'll get through the 70s to cover those or which other #2 albums there were, but from the first half of that list, The Sounds Of Silence, Hocus Pocus [i had no idea that was on such a high charting album!] and something by Pink Floyd get my vote (Money is possibly my least favourite track on it though, either Time or Brain Damage are more representative of the album as a whole; similar with David Bowie's Low although I'll see if we'll get that far).
October 11, 20222 yr My choice from The Dark Side Of The Moon would be 'Us And Them' but I'd settle for the most streamed track which is 'Money'.

Oh right, I didn't realise those were #2s (I knew 'Rocket Man' was, hence 'Honky Cat' being picked instead for that album). So yeah it would have to go to Isn't She Lovely for Stevie and Now I'm Here for Queen (though that's not a song I particularly care for). Although if we're not going to be strict about sticking to the most streamed songs on each album, I would prefer I Wish to Isn't She Lovely.
October 11, 20222 yr I would pick Brighton Rock from Sheer Heart Attack but I don't think we'll get that far this week.
October 11, 20222 yr Us and Them would be my pick from Dark Side... (or Great Gig in the Sky, that's not for everyone though :D), for Songs in the Key of Life, as long as it's not Isn't She Lovely (puke x), I'm not fussed as it's a fantastic album. As, Pastime Paradise or Black Man would probably be my favourites. Assuming we'll get to around 74/75, there's not a huge amount else jumping out at me. Quadrophenia was another album from my list, but it hasn't got a lot of Who classics like we've already heard. Ooh hang on, I see the Greatest Hits with Sound of Silence on it was released in 1972, would love that one <3
October 11, 20222 yr I would pick Brighton Rock from Sheer Heart Attack but I don't think we'll get that far this week. As a Brighton resident, I think that sounds a great idea although Killer Queen, Now I'm Here, Lily Of The Valley and In The Lap Of The Gods are all fantastic. My choice from Hotel California would be Teh Last Resort, probably my favourite Eagles song. It was a perfect end to the album and would be a perfect end to Sunday's session.
October 11, 20222 yr The number three album for a couple weeks while Hotel California was stuck behind Abba's Arrival was 10CC's Deceptive Bends. That included two great singles - Good Morning Judge and The Thigs We Do For Love - and a typically epic Rolloland BJSC entry, Feel The Benefit.
October 11, 20222 yr Hadn't spotted that David Bowie's Young Americans was a #2 in 1975, so I'll nominate its title track instead of my non-specific Pink Floyd suggestions - Us And Them is great anyway, reminds me I need to listen to the whole album again soon!
