Other songs played:

Whitney Houston - How Will I Know (from #2 album Whitney Houston)

The Smiths - There Is A Light That Never Goes Out (from #2 album The Queen Is Dead)

a-ha - Scoundrel Days (from #2 album Scoundrel Days)

Suzanne Vega - Luka (from #2 album Solitude Standing)

Pet Shop Boys - It Couldn't Happen Here (from #2 album Actually)

No RIP slot this week which I suppose is a good thing! Another week that was pretty light on great discoveries for me though that's partly because I already knew a majority of the songs played - still a few pretty good ones like the 2 Genesis songs (they both sounded vaguely familiar but not sure if I have heard them before), Bronski Beat, Bruce Springsteen and Johnny Hates Jazz (lucky them getting to have a second song played next week x). Plus Kate Bush, Suzanne Vega and Pet Shop Boys from the bonuses. And I did already know 'Rent' but this session helping me put a name to it!

so sad I missed it this week, will try listening later

that's the timeframe when I started following the charts as a kid and love some of those albums

like Bridge of Spies, True Blue, Turn back the clock or the Terence Trent d'Arby one...

RIP Wilko Johnson :(

Can we have Sneakin’ Suspicion please next Sunday?

Edited by chartjack2

There’s some great songs in that edition, sad I couldn’t make it. That George Benson track is one of my faves of that sort of style

not sure what period we're covering next but thinking about fav albums that peaked at #2 from that period

my fav has to be Neneh Cherry-Raw Like Sushi (I assume Buffalo Stance is the most popular track)

also voting Depeche Mode-Violator and Pet Shop Boys-Introspective

Back in the normal timeslot this week (better edit the subtitle oops) - which means I have just under 3 hours to make the playlist as I've left it to the last minute again  living dangerously x I'll post an estimated list of the #2 albums that will be eligible for bonuses in just a moment.

Back to a couple of RIP slot candidates this week indeed. I was thinking for Irene Cara we could play another of her songs from Fame since the slot for that soundtrack went to Paul McCrane instead (and ofc her 2 big hits were both top 2s).

Actually just decided to finish the playlist properly before posting this as I was getting through it relatively quickly - so apologies again for being very last minute but here are this week's #2 albums (the first 3 should really have been last week as they were behind the return to #1 for Terence Trent D'Arby but nvm x).

1988

Blow Up Your Video - AC/DC

Children - The Mission

The Best of OMD - OMD

Push - Bros

Stay on These Roads - a-ha

The First of a Million Kisses - Fairground Attraction

People - Hothouse Flowers

Idol Songs - Billy Idol

Hits 8 - Various Artists

Rank - The Smiths

Staring at the Sun - Level 42

Revolutions - Jean-Michell Jarre

Introspective - Pet Shop Boys

1989

Living Years - Mike & the Mechanics

Mystery Girl - Roy Orbison

Raw Like Sushi - Neneh Cherry

The Twelve Commandments of Dance - London Boys

Trash - Alice Cooper

Steel Wheels - The Rolling Stones

The Sensual World - Kate Bush

Welcome to The Beautiful South - The Beautiful South

Holding Back the River - Wet Wet Wet

Journeyman - Eric Clapton

A Bit of What You Fancy - The Quireboys

Pump Up the Jam - Technotronic

Missing, Presumed Having a Good Time - The Notting Hillbilles

This week finally sees the end of various artists compilations (huzzah!) and we also just about get to our first 90s #1 album, 42 albums in all bringing us up to March 1990 (most of early 1990 was monopolised by just the one album). Join us in about an hour x

If they come up I'd go for Personal Jesus from Violator and Left To My Own Devices from Introspective.

OK, now that the list is up I'll add Maid Of Orleans (The Waltz Joan Of Arc) from the OMD collection, You Got It by Roy Orbison and You Keep It All In by Beautiful South. Personal Jesus will have to wait until next week.

I would like:

OMD - Souvenir (The Best Of)

Jean Michel Jarre - Revolutions (Revolutions)

Pet Shop Boys - Left To My Own Devices (Introspective)

Mike & The Mechanics - Nobody's Perfect (The Living Years)

Roy Orbison - A Love So Beautiful (Mystery Girl)

No takers for a Jive Bunny track? Shocked I tell thee x

Kicking off in 20 minutes, beginning with the classic that is Johnny Hates Jazz's 2nd most popular song x (this week's session will be finishing on a similarly unideal album for next week lol)

You could cut one or two albums from the end and allow us to concentrate on Spain v Germany earlier if that would give a better album for the two-track treatment.
