Bought the EFY cassette so it was at least 3 sales behind Adele ha ha ha.

So a sales drop but not much. Not bad considering no new formats etc this week except for the extended video going on YouTube.

Love that a 2024 Kylie release has achieved that - in the streaming era I never thought we’d see that in the UK or US.

It was definitely something I'll never forget/never quite believe was actually real!

Biggest selling cassette of the last decade! Woohoo.

Also #10 on streaming out of songs not yet on ACR (I know that’s very tenuous! 😂)

Time to start the new week! Still number 1 on iTunes - Nicki Minaj climbed to 4 before falling back to 3 - and a second version didn’t manage to push higher than the 2nd version of PP and has now dropped below the 3rd version.

Bizarrely the original version of PP Has fallen right out of the Amazon downloads chart from the number 1 position! No worries - I still just added 3 more sales from the single version.

Fridays often show a fairly immediate impact of playlist changes and new releases. on Apple. PP has been an non-mover so far, and the main climbing contender is Peggy Gou. Taylor Swift ‘Cruel Summer’ is moving up too so could overtake Kylie. Stormzy’s new single is the highest new entry at 21 - so could well climb above Kylie too. In fact, it is the only new entry other than songs from the album by Young Thug, one of which could overtake Kylie. Nicki Minaj hasn’t even chatted there yet!

Looking forward to the Spotify chart tomorrow to see how well these songs do.

I hope they do make a Padam Padam 7" though, as I think even the general public who don't always follow Kylie but love this song would want a copy.
I know we’ve said it, and there isn’t a fat lot that we as consumers can do about it, but the fact this has spent 20 days/nights at number 1 on iTunes and yet it hasn’t even hit the top 5 is… madness!
But Dave can be #1 for weeks on end in the official chart and hardly sells at all. Something seems wrong, shouldn't there be more value in music?

^ people stopped buying and are streaming, there’s no way around it! If anything, it would be artificial to change the rates of streams from already 600:1 / 1200/1 ratio for free streams per sale if anything. The ratios seem fair. And each time Kylie is several placer higher than her position on streaming would be (this time it helped to be at 8 instead of 10), so all is fair.

I would change the chart rules however to make more room to the newer tracks, but that’s another story. And what is definitely in the need of a fix is the album chart streams. We actually might see a very short run for ‘Tension’ despite ‘Padam’ being a hit, because the pure sales are super front-loaded for everyone, and the streaming may dive fast below all of the ‘Best of…’ and other playlist-driven albums.

👆👆👆 it’s as if you took the words right out of my mouth, except for the fact that you probably said it for more eloquently than I ever could.

Except - Kylie’s last 13 albums (ok, I was a little flexible in which albums I have counted) have spent at least their first 5 weeks in the top 40 - even those released in the streaming era, so I can’t help but imagine BMG have a plan to continue this. Tbf other than ‘Golden’ all of Kylie‘s other albums in the streaming era have been released in November and therefore have tapped into the present buying audience - so ‘Tension’ is heading into territory that Kylie hasn’t entered in over 5 years.

I wouldn't worry about her album chart run. "Disco" managed to have a long chart run and her streaming numbers three years ago wasn't even solid.

I am a bit annoyed that PP doesn't outpeak "Higher" this week, it may be more difficult to achieve it from next week onward.

Edited by Red Blooded Man

I’m not worried about ‘Tensions’ chart run - even with ‘Disco’ being even more front loaded than normal due to that chart battle it still managed a total of 5 weeks Top 10 and 17 weeks Top 75 overall.

Her BMG sales and chart weeks have been really consistent so far.

She's stayed put on Spotify, so unless we do get remixes or promo then it won't rise any higher I don't think.

#8 is a huge success though, imagine thinking we'd get two weeks top 10 with a Kylie single in 2023!!

^^ This, I won’t be mad if #8 is it’s peak - 7 weeks ago I would have been happy with Top 75, when it entered at #26 I would’ve been happy with that too

We all want to see it do better but for me in the streaming era to land anywhere in the Top 10 is massive for a Kylie single and she’s notched up more Top 40 chart weeks to her tally.

^^ This, I won’t be mad if #8 is it’s peak

I will be mad! :teresa:

You all take these daily streaming figures too deep.

The song could literally go anywhere up or down on a few thousand streams.

She is selling on Itunes nicely which combats some of those close streaming positions on Spotify, plus she is higher on Apple and we haven't got a clue of those numbers.

She was in the 20s all last week on Spotify and came in 8rh in the chart, doesn't that tell you something lol.

Stop looking for the peak and enjoy the success

It’s definitely stalling on streaming though? That’s nothing wrong with that. It’s stalled at a great place and is already a big hit.

We are, but we can still analyse the data we see! That's part of the fun for us, even if you're not fussed.

We know that being in the 20s all week on Spotify contributed to #8 overall in the chart. But we can also remark about what we're seeing - that, currently, it's stalled on Spotify, after a few weeks of growth. So the discussion is: has this already done the absolute best it's going to do on Spotify?

I’d love for it to be 7. I just feel like that’s such a good number for it to be as it’s unique to her!

In the words of MUNA, that's just what I want!

Nope. Its still going to do better

However you cannot stop new songs being released and popular and also big events like Glastonbury offering big streaming even if temporarily.

Just wait for Elton John to be everywhere tomorrow. I expect Elton and Dua to be top 5 again on Itunes if not higher
