    Love that a 2024 Kylie release has achieved that - in the streaming era I never thought we’d see that in the UK or US.

And there are some massive new single releases this week, chief among them the return of our very own pop princess, Kylie Minogue. The deliriously titled Padum Padum forms the lead single from Kylie's brand-new LP Tension, and sees her move away from Disco and into a darker, more European-inspired synth-pop turn. The brand new single comes with writing credits from Ina Wroldsen (The Saturdays) and production from Lostboy (Mimi Webb) and is one of the most unique offerings of Kylie's latter day career.

 

The OCC team are such fanboys - I love how they endlessly promote their faves (Eurovision, Kylie etc.,) :lol:

The video really made me like this song more!

The premier on radio 2 this morning was excellent. Another special Kylie moment.
The reaction to the music video on PoopJustice is very mixed, it seems. :thinking:

However Official Charts call it Padum Padum in that write up....lol

 

American Idol tweeted to stream Padam Padam to its 1.9m followers. Nice

BMG literally only care about albums - singles are nothing more than buzz tracks and for building album sales.

 

Really frustrates me with the Thursday release but it seems a blanket approach with all their artists rather than looking at the fanbase of each artist.

 

See I don’t really agree with that because remember the big push to get Dancing into the top 40? And the Real Groove vinyl etc. they seem to really care about getting her singles a chart placement, so that’s why the Thursday releases don’t make sense to me, the first day streams literally aren’t counted by the OCC, any first day sales are wasted. It’s not just BMG either because Madonna did the same thing with Medellín, I mean I know she would’ve only charted at 60 something instead of 80 something if she released on the Friday but like… why not?

I kinda feel the same I do think they do want the singles to register on the chart but they generally don't seem to handle the single releases properly but they well with Kylie albums.

I have a feeling its to try and get the song to be on playlists by Friday start of chart week rather than just on New Music Friday then playlists over the weekend. Plus she doesn't get lost tomorrow in all the Lewis Capaldi media hype.....

 

Who knows. They often have a different impact week than week 1 with Kylie.

 

I fully expect physicals and a big name remix or two with this track

 

Sadly Padam Padam has got some very low Spotify New Music Friday spots around Europe, so don't expect UK to be much better.... without the backing of the big record companies they don't seem to want to know. Lets hope the song is given a chance on some playlists from tomorrow.

 

Meanwhile that 2 min 29 second Ann Marie & Shania track gets lots of top positions

I wonder would this be one of those one of occasions where it would be worth BMGs while paying to get on these all important lists, it really could make a difference although its unlikely they will even consider that as kylie as we know is no longer an artists who has hits.

The push for ‘Dancing’ was due to it appearing at #16 in the mids and then falling to #37 - they cobbled together a 99p EP and the fans got behind it.

 

The physicals they’ve released since have been too limited to make an impact on their own and they’ve been out of sync with the remix and download releases - if they really wanted to make the Top 40 they would release the download, remixes, video and physical all in one week rather than all of them weeks apart.

Just downloaded x 2 from iTunes too so the sales count towards this weeks chart rather than being ‘wasted’ if I bought them yesterday.

Or sell 4 CDs with a different remix on each and different colour sleeve. 2.99 each haha.

No campaign is ever perfectly coordinated. And the vinyl releases are usually limited to 5k right? Which is just enough to make the top 100, and tbh the advertising it as limited to 5k definitely helps - who knows if it’d even sell that much otherwise. The focus is on the album but that doesn’t mean the singles are totally forgotten, the fact Kylie managed to chart three songs from her last album during the streaming era is a triumph

I did wonder if most of those Thursday itunes sales where from people preordering the album rather than the single?

Limited to 5k worldwide usually - I think the UK sales are around the 3k mark for recent ones that sales have been reported for.

 

Campaigns aren’t perfect but an artist like Kylie needs condensed sales to attempt a Top 40 - even if ‘Padam Padam’ only sold 300 downloads yesterday they are all a waste in chart terms along with any streams and YT video plays, it just seems a bizarre strategy for no reason.

 

Hence why I don’t get excited over Kylie singles charting well, the odds are always against it happening.

I just bought for 99p. Click on the song. Don't go on purchase options but instead click the 3 dots next to Padam Padam and it should say purchase Padam Padam for 99p
