October 14, 20223 yr Author No one ever releases a song called 'Die Hard' and then two people do in the same year  Good to see Dermot finally added! Weird that they're snubbing Steve Lacy though when it's become a reasonably big hit?
October 14, 20223 yr i know what flood gates i'm about to open here but still baffled chris brown hasn't been playlisted when he's higher in the actual charts than 1975 and Lil Nas X. I guess its more album promo for the 1975.

They didn't add I Ain't Worried to their playlist at any point either, so no matter how long Chris Brown stays in the upper end of the chart I doubt he's going to be added!
October 14, 20223 yr its just weird because Radio 1Xtra literally ran this programme last month: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0018fhf Chris Brown 1Xtra Salutes... 1Xtra Salutes Chris Brown! Featuring an hour of his greatest tunes and chats. From his self-titled debut in 2005 to his soon to be released tenth studio album Breezy, Brown's career has stood the test of time.

I’m guessing they must have different playlist teams who decide on that type of thing
October 14, 20223 yr Didn't even realise Steve wasn't on the playlist. A bit odd that (not that I'm complaining really). Good to see 'messy in heaven' added. Looks to be heading to be huge that.
October 14, 20223 yr Tom Grennan - All These Nights is still on the A list? I wonder if they will remove it after it finally charts this week.

Probably because it’s dull.
October 14, 20223 yr exactly, the days of R1 making hits are long gone... and thats the good thing about R1, they support a lot of UK indie/rock bands who have zero chance of a hit single but do very well on albums

Why does Radio 1 need to playlist it if it's sister station has? I personally think there are too many tracks shared between Radio 1 and 1xtra, which in the world we now live in is easily accessible on DAB Radio, online, Apps, Smartspeakers etc... I think Radio 1 should focus more on indie, rock, dance and pop and let 1Xtra showcase the grime and hiphop. That's not to say they shouldn't play any, just less of it. October 14, 20223 yr Yay for the piri & tommy add, plus a decent Dermot Kennedy song and good to see another Kendrick song on the playlist even if one of the weakest songs from his album (mind there are not many other sensible choices for a radio single, 'Rich Spirit' would work ok though I think and that is a better song). Happy to see Asake and Wet Leg on the up too. Introducing playlist coming through with another song that already charted weeks ago :P I noticed that she released a non demo version of the song now though so I guess that's the version they'll be playing? Surprisingly(?) I actually really like the song anyway, I expected to cringe but it's actually a really hard hitting and well written song, she reminds me a bit of Freya Ridings. Shame the song didn't really end up blowing up to the level its pre-release hype seemed to hint at. No one ever releases a song called 'Die Hard' and then two people do in the same year  Good to see Dermot finally added! Weird that they're snubbing Steve Lacy though when it's become a reasonably big hit? They were released (and charted) on back to back weeks with Kendrick's album dropping one week after the Knucks single! And Steve Lacy was A-Listed for 6 weeks and has been and gone already a few weeks ago :kink: just another case like Diplo/Miguel where it's taken so long to peak that it's already been dropped by R1 by the time it happens (minus the part where R1 had it playlisted for a while before it charted at all). Why does Radio 1 need to playlist it if it's sister station has? I mean by the same logic you could argue they should play less pop music because Capital has that covered, or less indie music because of Radio X? R1's playlist seems like a pretty fair balance of genres to me.

Ha, that completely passed me by and I type up the playlist every week  guess that just goes to show my level of indifference for the song.
October 14, 20223 yr I don’t think Chris Brown has been play listed in his own right on Radio 1 since the assault conviction? Correct me if I’m wrong.
October 14, 20223 yr Author I don’t think Chris Brown has been play listed in his own right on Radio 1 since the assault conviction? Correct me if I’m wrong. The assault conviction was in 2009 but he was playlisted in 2012 and 2013 (with Don't Wake Me Up, Turn Up The Music and Fine China - back when he used to make songs that were listenable, sometimes even enjoyable). He was most recently playlisted in 2015 as a featured artist on no less than four different singles that year!
October 17, 20223 yr Author I'm away again this Friday, could someone else please post the playlist in my absence? (unless we get it early again)
October 18, 20223 yr Amanda Reifer on the Radio 1 playlist for the first time in over 10 years. If I remember correctly 'Twilight' and 'Sparks' were the only Cover Drive songs playlisted by R1, and actually I'm not even 100% sure on the latter.
