November 16, 20223 yr I think FONY would only get there if there were some changes made to the ACR system around Christmas and what has already peaked at #1, even then it wouldn’t be certain unfortunately. I think Mariah or Wham will get there again considering the numbers for the biggest current hits on Spotify.
A rule change of songs getting automatic resets if they reach a new peak would guarantee FONY (and a lot of other Christmas songs) getting to #1 in future years. We'd have Michael Bublé, Brenda Lee, Elton John, Ariana Grande and others getting there with those rules. Probably 1 or 2 each year. And probably by the time we've got through all the current big Christmas songs there will be new ones which can get to #1. I don't know if this rule would ever be implemented but it would have solved a couple of recent controversies and prevent inevitable future ones so maybe it will happen, and it seems sensible to most people imo. The situation with 505 this year has been ridiculous. And Kate Bush but they fixed that at least.
November 16, 20223 yr Come on Louis! 50% off all his vinyl tonight :w00t: https://townsendmusic.store/products?_token...louis+tomlinson
November 16, 20223 yr I’d like to see a rule for Xmas songs being allowed a reset on the condition that they have never reached #1
November 16, 20223 yr Come on Louis! 50% off all his vinyl tonight :w00t: https://townsendmusic.store/products?_token...louis+tomlinson I’m glad I’m not a fan who had preordered, I’d be pretty miffed around about now.
November 16, 20223 yr Looks like it actually is going to be Louis for #1 this week then! Interesting to note that 1D missed #1 with their first album but got there with their second, and the same happened for Niall solo and seemingly now Louis solo too. (Not to mention Harry getting #1 with his third album after missing it with his second, although ofc his debut got to #1 too). Taylor still selling well on both charts, can see her reclaiming the double next week. Dermot Kennedy would appear to be the main competition for next week - his last album did 20k first week, I have no idea whether to expect him to increase or decrease this time.
November 16, 20223 yr I almost said it sold 31k and then realised that was just the sales for the peak week of 'Outnumbered' which is the first result from Ctrl+F-ing the 2019 week by week stats thread. I am guessing you may have done the same. :kink:

November 17, 20223 yr Hard to predict with Dermot He apparently has a fanbase but cannot really see it Interestingly wiki says his last album was the fastest 1st week sale in Ireland in ‘19 with... 7k Not sure if i misunerstand, but that seems very little?
November 17, 20223 yr Dermot does have a UK fanbase he did 7 sold out shows in conjunction with HMV and on Saturday will do a pop-up store in London. There are problems within his fanbase but casual fans won’t care about that. Edited November 17, 20223 yr by Chloe00x

Ireland’s population is only 5 million, significantly smaller than the UK!
November 17, 20223 yr Oh I hadn’t realised Dermot was anywhere near that popular, his prior success has clearly gone over my head as I didn’t even consider him
November 17, 20223 yr Ireland’s population is only 5 million, significantly smaller than the UK! I know, but still sounds very low to me
November 17, 20223 yr 7k/week is very good if the population is 5 million. Finland has population of 5.5M and that equals almost gold in one week.
November 17, 20223 yr I know, but still sounds very low to me Well the UK’s population is 13.6x bigger the Ireland’s. That makes his 7k the equivalent of 96k here!
November 17, 20223 yr I know, but still sounds very low to me Taylor is #1 on the Ireland Spotify chart with 57,760 streams that wouldn't touch the top 200 on some days in the UK.
November 17, 20223 yr There are problems within his fanbase but casual fans won’t care about that. Do tell, I'm intrigued now!
November 17, 20223 yr Do tell, I'm intrigued now! All you need to do is search Permanent.Reverie on Insta and click their stories "MgmtGate1.0 and 2.0" and there's a lot of detail on there from the last 3 weeks.
November 17, 20223 yr Well the UK’s population is 13.6x bigger the Ireland’s. That makes his 7k the equivalent of 96k here! Which is still very low if it’s the biggest ever sales week - It’s only just over 10% of the equivalent for the UK.
