November 23, 20222 yr This was the most entertaining match so far of the competition, 2 great goals from Japan, probably the icing on the cake, when Belgium sliced them up apart when they were 2-0 up. Spain vs. Germany, a must win for Germany, but I think Spain are on form and could throw an upset for Germany again.
November 23, 20222 yr I'm so happy for Japan, they really played with spirit in that second half, Germany looked like they'd started to tune out.
November 23, 20222 yr Given the level of apathy in Germany for this tournament, and all the fan groups calling for boycott, I am not sure that anyone here would really mind if Germany was eliminated early (again)
November 23, 20222 yr This Spain side is really uninspiring, so they will probably win by 5. Asensio starting up front is so weird.
November 23, 20222 yr I’m not surprised about how this one is turning out at all. Costa Rica got battered by New Zealand in the play-off and were lucky to win. I actually think this Spain team (on paper) looks like the best they’ve had since their disastrous title defence. One swap I would like to see is to put Rodri in midfield and swap Busquets for Pau Torres.
November 23, 20222 yr Yeah Pau Torres is class. There's a lot of depth to this Spanish squad actually. And they've a great blend of youth in midfield with experience at the back.

Too early for them imo, their midfield will dominant again but I think against a team that will cause them problems they will struggle again. Busquets is a massive weak spot for them and Enrique seemingly loves him.
November 23, 20222 yr Author Costa Rica look awful - bad news for Germany as they need a favour from them vs Japan
November 23, 20222 yr The parallels to the Argentina game are crazy! Favourite takes the lead through a first half penalty. Underdog scores 2 in the second half to pull off the shock. Over to you Costa Rica... Costa Rica seem to have set themselves a more difficult challenge.
November 23, 20222 yr Costa Rica seem to have set themselves a more difficult challenge. And it's just got bigger.
November 23, 20222 yr Author Has a team ever had this much possession without the other team registering a shot? Another record surely
November 23, 20222 yr Author This is the biggest defeat since Germany's 8-0 demolition of Saudi Arabia back in 2002.
November 23, 20222 yr Costa Rica are miles off where they were at the last couple of World Cups. They need a squad refresh and forget about Campbell, Ruiz, Oviedo etc.
November 23, 20222 yr Knew I'd curse it and say they would win big  I do think this Spain team will be great again, a midfield of Pedri & Gavi just oozes class. And when Fati gets back, they have a striker at least. Think this comes 2 years early for them and usually teams that peak early tend to burn out in tournaments.
November 23, 20222 yr Great to see Japan pull off the upset - would be fab to see them make it into the Round of 16 again. As for Costa Rica, not much I can say really...
