I love it when Xmas songs return in the charts. I predict Mariah will be Top 15 on Friday

You must be the only one who does.

I used to like it when a few Christmas songs were around - back in the 80s/90s etc - and then it was interesting when songs rebounded in the New Year.

But these days, when 3/4s of the Top 40 are Christmas songs, if feels a little like the charts are just "on hold" for 6 weeks.

Yeah, this exactly. I don't mind a few Xmas songs in the chart but I hate the annual takeover.

I can almost foresee that the Official Charts will eventually relent and have a dedicated chart separate for the old Christmas songs like they do over in America. In some ways I hope they do, if only because I'm sick of hearing James Masterton at about this time every year onwards until early January for the last five years on his blog whining about it all.
They don't do that in the US though? (Yes they do have a separate 'Holiday Songs' chart but it's in addition to the Christmas songs appearing on the Hot 100, not a replacement)
Used to love the annual Xmas takeover but in the last three or four years been getting bored with it.
Like Christmas song to clear old song to acr faster

Can you make this clear please.

I think it's cause it's the same ones all the time as great and classic as they may be it does get old like a lot of other annual trends etc. If it was filled with different older ones and more recent ones it might not be so bad.

Then again a over filling of anything can get a bit much no matter how freshened around it could be.

I like to see other Xmas songs returning to the charts such as Cliff Richard, Frankie Goes To Hollywood and East 17 instead of Mariah Carey, Wham! and The Pogues etc. Spotify keep fixing their Xmas playlist. Always putting Mariah and Wham! at the top
Cliff is releasing his Christmas album on Friday it would be nice to see that legend in the charts. He’s written 3 brand new festive tunes what more could people want?

What would happen to Stay Another Day though?

it would be in the Old Songs chart alongside the rest of the christmas songs.

I did enjoy the novelty of the christmas takeover for the first couple of years it happened but now it seems to disrupt the chart for a lot longer than it used to, so I wouldn’t be against them being shunted from the chart (well, all the ones that are on ACR)

How is All For You still in the charts (and #19 last week???)?? I’m sick of it now.

Can you make this clear please.

Christmas songs push out old song like mr brightside out chart and put like Tom Odell final acr drop sales faster

This only really happens for 2-3 charts a year though the final chart on 30th Dec to 2nd Jan usually isn’t even played.

That's beacuse it's what people want to listen to. Which of course does help their popularity but Spotify would then say those two tracks are the most popular.
