It doesn’t really matter, there are artists headlining festivals and playing large venues/arenas these days who have never had any/had very few charting hits.

Top of the Pops back in the day focused on singles artists and that’s what the EOY TOTP should do. Celeste etc have their space on Jools Holland.

didnt watch it live, but just caught up. shame there weren't more actual performances, though it was so nice to watch sam fender's glasto one! brings me so much joy! Also not surprised seeing heat waves in the eoy top 10 again, i know its a slim chance but it would be awesome for kate bush to make the top 5

I’ve actually made a list of what each weekly episode of Top of the Pops would look like this year if anyone’s interested. Same rules as before, no repeat artists or songs from the previous week unless they are number 1 and only new entries and songs climbing the chart, The top 8 songs by this metric included every week. Makes for a very interesting hypothetical half hour every week tbh.

 

From April - each episode to go out on Thursday nights at 7.30, as per tradition haha

A chance to look back at an amazing 12 months of live music at the BBC. Lauren Laverne leads us through a year of unforgettable performances – from the 6 Music Festival to Glastonbury, Radio 1’s Big Weekend to Later... and featuring some of the world’s biggest artists as well as some exciting new talent.

 

 

Whilst browsing Britbox this evening, I discovered that - a very heavily edited - version of the Christmas Day show from 2008 is currently on there. No presenting links from Fearne Cotton and Reggie Yates, and also half the performances from the New Year's Eve show from that same year amalgamated on to it too (meaning two performances from Coldplay but others such as McFly shafted off). Regardless, it felt like Christmas watching it.
