Notice how the Amazon exclusives aren’t flying up the chart as in previous years - maybe there was a mistake in the reporting in previous years that’s quietly been fixed. ;)

I’ve mentioned this in other threads, but it’s worth mentioning here as well. I use Amazon over the winter period and I have noticed this year that Amazon Prime force feeds you different tracks, and won’t play the track that you have requested. This is not the same on Amazon Music Unlimited. I have a hunch therefore that streaming on Amazon Prime would no longer count towards the chart - only Amazon Music Unlimited. The Amazon chart that is included in this thread is the Amazon Prime Chart.

This theory would explain lower overall streaming figures, and also the fact that the Amazon exclusives don’t chart quite as high as before.

I would be interested to know anyone else’s thoughts about this.

Memories of when we used to see "Blu Cantrell featuring Sean Paul - Breathe (feat. Sean Paul, Sean Paul & Sean Paul)" in the iTunes chart

Sean de Paul

It's probably on course to go top 10 in the new year (via physicals if nothing else, but I think it could get there regardless).

Yeah i'm sure it was mentioned at the time of release that he had physicals penciled in for January.

Yup, it has been doing that with me too on my Alexa!! I have some thoughts about that and how to get it to play Mariah and Leona more easily.

You could be on to something. But usually Music Week would have made a note of something like that right?

That would make it a lot of sense thanks! Bré’s theory that the Spotify market share is increasing is interesting too (but don’t think I buy the bit that people are junking their accounts and listening for free instead haha).

Memories of when we used to see "Blu Cantrell featuring Sean Paul - Breathe (feat. Sean Paul, Sean Paul & Sean Paul)" in the iTunes chart

And OneRepublic - Apologise ft Timbaland, Timbaland, Timbaland & Timbaland.

I think it's very unlikely to switch from premium back to free just cos of the crisis. It's not that the monthly fee is so high. And if you're used to premium there is no way you are going back to listen to ads every 5 minutes.
Is this the first time Britney's "My Only Wish" is in the top 50 on Spotify?

It reached #42 last year.

Not LadBaby peaking in streams after the Christmas #1 week. This is a bit of a spanner in the works for the chances of it going 1-out.

Faithless 'Insomnia' sneaking in at #198

Also a new entry at #186 for Cliff Richard's 'Heart Of Christmas' from his new album :cheeseblock: streaming king x (only 'Hide & Seek' being ahead from Stormzy's album)

Wham on 1,931,000 pretty close to 2 mil

Mariah at a distant 1,755,000

also surprised in the US Brenda Lee is #1 with 1 million streams more than #2 which is that old Jingle Bells Rock thing

Edited by Bjork

applying ACR:

1 Wham 965K

2 Mariah 877K

3 Brenda Lee 853K

4 Jingle bells 717K

5 Buble 704K

and the top non-xmas holding up pretty week:

Raye 315+112=427K

SZA 295K

Jet Go 254K

I think it is now the same as Spotify. Where as the Amazon prime is basically free streaming now, so a lower ratio and they throw in songs you haven't requested and Amazon music unlimited is paid for thus you don't get random songs and are at a higher ratio.

That would explain Amazon's presence decreasing and a lot of their streams are now ratioed as 'free stream' so worth less towards the chart.

^ I worked out that the non Spotify chart sales for Wham! in Christmas week decreased by around 20% between last year and this year, and I think that’s the only logical explanation.
