^ I worked out that the non Spotify chart sales for Wham! in Christmas week decreased by around 20% between last year and this year, and I think that’s the only logical explanation.

 

Is that the same for other songs as well? I think generally non-Spotify Christmas streaming is down - possibly due to the changes at Amazon suggested above. One other possible reason is that last year Alexa marginally preferred Wham! This year she marginally prefers Mariah.

Is that the same for other songs as well? I think generally non-Spotify Christmas streaming is down - possibly due to the changes at Amazon suggested above. One other possible reason is that last year Alexa marginally preferred Wham! This year she marginally prefers Mariah.

No Mariah’s sales were well down on Christmas week last year as well. Assuming nothing’s been ballsed up by the OCC I think a change in how Amazon streams are credited is very likely the answer. Further proof if any were needed that River was a highly dubious #1!

I haven’t personally compared directly, but MOST Christmas songs seem to be down (though I wouldn’t be surprised if Brenda Lee is up)

 

Well we will be able to tell this week. Lizzo and Stormzy are up to 3 and 4 on Amazon Prime but 11 and 7 on Amazon Music Unlimited. If Amazon counts just as much this year, they will both be massively high. I’m sure on previous Christmas Days, Amazon has accounted for more than 50% of streaming. And Amazon is counting Stormzy as a non-Christmas track, so he features in ALL of their playlists.

 

Remember Lizzo is so high because she is not on ACR unlike all other Christmas songs other than Ed and Elton.

These are the Christmas songs in the 101-200 range on Apple Music at about 10pm last night, always interesting to see what lesser known ones appear!

I think Wham! usually does about 300k today so it does fall off a cliff but it can still be near the top with that. Generally takes about 4 days to leave the Top 200 I think.

It's not inherently a Christmas song, no, but Lily's version is connected strongly with Christmas through the John Lewis advert, so it's a Christmas song to all intents and purposes. East 17's Stay Another Day isn't technically a Christmas song either, just very winter-adjacent.

^ I worked out that the non Spotify chart sales for Wham! in Christmas week decreased by around 20% between last year and this year, and I think that’s the only logical explanation.

 

Are they on their way out, buoyed only by Spotify playlists then, aoCC payola against Queen of Christmas!??!?!?!
