That's really sad and such a shame, they really could have done with the exposure much more than any of the other acts that are performing.

They're probably just too concerned about ratings and don't want an unknown performing

They’ve had the Rising Star Winner perform every year though and some of the previous winners were arguably more unknown than FLO have been , it feels weird and kind of unfair on FLO’S behalf to not have a performance and there award given on the show .

Although tbf they haven’t always had the Rising Star winner perform. Jorja Smith did in 2018, but Sam Fender didn’t a year later in 2019.

In general majority of them have though .

I suspected FLO weren’t going to perform as there didn’t seem to be an actual announcement. Makes it bizarre though that Cat Burns is performing but didn’t win the Rising Star…
Why have they suddenly moved this to a Saturday?

I won't be able to watch this live as I'll be at a friend's birthday party.

For more ratings??

When did people feel the decline of the Brits begun? I remember it being huge at the time in the mid-2000s.

When they started to lick record labels' arses :P

In the past the show was fun and unpredictable and had very established performers like Björk, Prince and Paul McCartney and thank you speeches like Kate Moss (on behalf of David Bowie). Now they only want current hit makers to perform and usually they are fairly boring on stage.

Remember when they used to have random duets as well? I seem to remember Kylie/Justin, Anastacia/Jamiroquai, Lemar/Jamelia and the Bedingfield siblings. Big stars would turn up to perform. I have only watched in the past 5 years if I knew Pink was performing tbh.

I dunno perhaps I’ve just grown out of it.

I think a big part of the decline is due to the streaming era. That's made it more difficult for older/established acts pre-2010 to have success in the charts. Even in the early 2010s the BRITS was quite big - Adele's "Someone Like You" performance being a big highlight.

I also think it's down to streaming of entertainment. Less people are watching traditional TV and those that do are generally in an older age bracket - whom the BRITS aren't usually aimed at. If the BRITS or Grammys etc made deals with streamings services to broadcast (Netflix/Amazon etc), they would likely get a lot more views/be much bigger.

Rihanna/Klaxons and Florence/Dizzee were ICONIC. The random duets used to be the bit I was most excited for.

To be fair, we did have Ed Sheeran/Bring Me The Horizon last year!

I can actually think of recent ones but just none that excite me or felt like talking points. Like I said, I’m probably just too old.

Honestly, I think awards shows in general are much like singing competitions in the modern era, no-one cares for it live anymore because they can just read tweets of the winners/watch the speeches they want, without having to sit through so much filler and honestly, I think a lot of performances are really boring and predictably lazy nowadays.

I miss the random collaborations, too! As much as I don't like the Dizzee/Florence song, it was still exciting.

Another part of the reason is pretty much every award show is determined to be about the spectacle rather than celebrating the actual things getting awarded. It doesn't matter if the best things win, if something controversial doesn't happen or a big star doesn't perform or make a tit of themselves, it's deemed boring and forgotten instantly. Honestly, if that's their attitude over the actual art, then they deserve it x
