Such a shame! They got a lot of consistency/milestones that not everyone will acknowledge sadly. Still, I’m very happy that they are still around, have succes and we got a lot of new material

That’s a great run indeed. Not mad at Buzz #4, it’s still a top 5!

They easily can get another few years out of it before they disband for good, id have a different opinion if they were releasing rubbish studio albums but in my opinion they are still delivering great

At the entertainment show I’m at tonight on my cruise the performer sung Thank ABBA For The Music. It was exactly like the Brits 1999 performance version. That certainly wasn’t on my bingo card. 😂

I think at times their success is often overlooked as they have done so well over the years, and their later success has been so enjoyable aswell,
Huge album artists ahead of Buzz that week - U2, Texas and Blur! Steps sold more to be #4 (77,000) than Spice Girls - Forever sold to be #2 a week later (73,000). So that was fairly unfortunate timing for Steps, and actually quite good timing for Spice Girls (even though they still got so much flack for “only” being #2, a different week would likely have resulted in a much worse outcome :o )

A shame they couldn’t keep a Top 2 streak going (well, Light Up the World completely ruined that at #32 :kink: but at least when it comes to their “proper” studio albums & major Greatest Hits releases)…

2 Step One

1 Steptacular

4 Buzz

1 Gold: Greatest Hits

1 The Ultimate Collection

2 Tears on the Dancefloor

2 What the Future Holds

2 What the Future Holds Pt. 2

1 Platinum Collection

What a run! They don’t get the credit they deserve for this level of consistency. For instance, they were not selected by Radio 2 to appear in the recent British bands poll vote.

Plus The Last Dance at #57! 😂

What if they had released a week earlier how would they have fared with 77k then?

Interestingly that does show that Forever could have had decent sales had they continued to promote and release more singles like Steps did. Spice Girls could easily have had a double platinum album from that era, their own lack of interest killed the album.

100%

Still, as long as we can enjoy and celebrate I’m ok with that :claire:

Forever.. :(

They really do get overlooked, their stats are quite incredible really, especially considering they are a pure pop band too.

#1 albums in 4 consecutive decades, plus a further 5 top 5 albums, huge tours even to this day their have been able to sell out arena tours, 3 million selling albums and 14 consecutive top 5 singles, a Guiness World record at the time (not sure if it still is to this day?).

They certainly justified a place in that BBC bands voting list if Girls Aloud and Sugababes made it onto the list.

Especially their (almost) consistent succes with their albums and tours are impressive.

Though I do wonder how a new album would do chartwise..

I think a new album would still do well chart wise especially if released on the right week, i think they can still challenge for a number 1.

I think so too, considering there’d probably be 6 different variations of it. One with each member on the cover and one with the group on the cover.

Yes i can easily see them going that route as its likely it will be largely a 1 week wonder album with how the market works these days.

They could do that for week 2 of the release to help sales by releasing the individual covers of each member.

With Lisa back in the UK I hope they sit down and start making plans for a new studio album.

That would be great!!

With Lisa back in the UK I hope they sit down and start making plans for a new studio album.

I wouldn't count on this any time soon.

From Manchester Evening News: When asked what was next for the band itself, H teased: "Our next milestone is our 30th anniversary, so watch this space."

And we know the 30th anniversary isn't until 2027, so... I'd be surprised if they give much thought towards working on a new album until 2026, at this rate. With the musical touring in 2025 and 2026, it seems like they'll be wanting Steps focus to be on the musical, not themselves.

Plus The Last Dance at #57! 😂

I kind of feel like at best another single might have made #5 in a dead week and made the album re-enter at 80something, interest was definitely not there after a few weeks of the album being out and I don't think it had another killer single on it that could've really turned it around.

Plus Steps' album had a steady chart run and wasn't perceived as being a flop like the Spice Girls' album was, which sank without trace quite quickly.

Though I love the SG, I think the biggest issue with ‘Forever’ was the lack of magic/the girls seem to care less. I do think the album could’ve sold (a bit) more with another single. Though there was some tension behind the scenes Steps still went full force with promo/releasing singles with their third era.

I don’t mind TLD peak, a top 40 placing would’ve looked better.

I agree the Spice Girls literally gave up on Forever literally as soon as it was released although i do wonder had it went number 1 would have they invested more in it, sales a side, them losing the number 1 just set the scene for flop.

With Steps at least they continued promo right to the very end although i sometimes wonder how bad the tension was in the lead up the last couple of weeks together, how the split was done was awful and while tensions were high as we now know some members did not think the split was even on the cards let alone for it to just happen.
