The helmet worn by Charles Leclerc at the Monaco Grand Prix has sold for a record 306,000 euros (£262,700) to help raise funds for flood victims in Italy.

Last month's Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix was cancelled because of major flooding in the region.

Auctioneers RM Sotheby's said the amount made it the highest-priced racing helmet ever auctioned.

It beats the previous record of 162,000 euros (£139,100) set in 2019 for a helmet worn by Brazilian Ayrton Senna.

The 'Charles Leclerc for Emilia-Romagna' charity auction raised a total of £368,800, with the Ferrari driver's race suit fetching £52,500, his boots £17,500 and gloves £36,100.

Canadian Grand Prix first practice was abandoned because of a CCTV failure at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

Governing body the FIA said it was impossible to run the session without the closed-circuit TV system, which is part of Formula 1's safety apparatus.

The FIA said the CCTV was "not synced correctly and until the issue has been fixed we cannot run on track".

Second practice has been extended by 30 minutes to make up for the lack of running and will start at 21:30 BST.

It will last for 90 minutes and conclude at 23:00 (18:00 local time).

Hulkenberg was given a lenient 3 place grid drop for speeding under a red flag. It's normally a 10 place drop but the stewards allowed for mitigating factors
It was a bizarre session. Sainz should probably have got way more than a 3 place drop himself as well for being a mobile chicane the whole weekend so far.
It's becoming a tad boring, the superiority is overwhelming

This is Formula 1 for most of the years I've been following it, eras of dominance. Schumacher, Vettel, Hamilton now Verstappen.

The V8 era from 2006 to 2012 was the time to watch for title fights.

I found yesterdays race pretty good though, Max was never completely out of reach and there was a lot going on throughout the pack. Canada is a great track though so it shows that even when a season is relatively uninteresting, good tracks will still give good races.

Best driver: Albon [P7 in a Williams is absolute fire, props to them for opting for straight line speed but also to Alex for doing the business in quali]

Worst driver: Russell [this was a big error, the like of which we've seldom seen from him]

Best team: Ferrari [finally, credit to them for actually getting the strategy right for once]

Worst team: Alpha Tauri

Best overtake: Norris on Piastri

Worst overtake: De Vries on Magnussen [d'oh moment, deserved a penalty]

Best moment: Hamilton vs Alonso

Worst moment: Russell hitting the wall [needed him in the points for a bet win too]

Best thing about the race: Pretty action-packed for 2023 standards

Worst thing about the race: Could have done with borrowing a sprinkling of rain from Saturday

And the race in a sentence: The 3 champions finish top of the tree, now we're back to Europe for the next 6 Grand Prix

It's becoming a tad boring, the superiority is overwhelming

Seems pretty much the same as 2014, 2019 and 2020 to me.

88, 92, 02, 04 and 11 were also super dominant years, so not really anything new.

The main difference is that Perez appears to be trying to get the sack now, rather than make any attempt to mount a challenge.

AlphaTauri is set to be renamed for the 2024 Formula 1 season as part of the team’s ongoing restructure under new Red Bull management, according to Helmut Marko.
Lewis Hamilton says Formula 1 should consider further restrictions on car development to stop teams building long periods of domination. This is very funny coming from him of all people

Yeah I thought it was a very odd thing to say! Maybe he’s fearful his records will start going at some point?

I would say that Red Bulls current dominance is on par with Mercedes

Don't think other drivers were saying this back in the Mercedes domination era of 2014-2020..

All these lap time deletions at least show that the F1 game is accurate and makes me feel better for being unable to keep it between the white lines.

McLaren's request for a right to review Lando Norris' five-second penalty at the Canadian Grand Prix has been rejected.

Austrian Grand Prix stewards decided there was "no significant, relevant and new element" that was not available at the time of the original decision.

Stewards have to accept that there is a new element that was not previously considered to allow a right of review.

It means Norris remains in 13th place, to which he was demoted from ninth.
