I don't like the original by Toni Basil either its too bubblegum pop for me! In my opinion there were much better songs than it around in the charts in early 1982.

What about this version?

Ooh, interesting to see Rush by Ayra Starr in the top 200 on Spotify! This song is one to watch! Glad female Afrobeat artists are now taking off.
What about this version?

Similar, it would be one of the worst 1999 hits in my opinion.

Looks like we may have a rare country hit coming…

Apple:

166. Luke Combs - The Kind of Love We Make

What an AWFUL song. Hopefully it follows a similar progression to that Gaby Barrett thing that threatened to do something a while back.

Well Zach Bryan made no.70 and was in the UK chart for 10 weeks with 'Something in the Orange' recently which was actually excellent for a country track so hope this trash doesn't outpeak that.

I wonder how long a list of country songs in the UK Top 100 since 2010 would be? This is what I've got (although 'Dancing' is a bit debatable, and there are definitely some missing in the first half). There's also been some Christmas songs by country artists chart (Dolly, Carrie, Blake Shelton), but they're not really country songs really.

Carrie Underwood - I Know You Won't (#94, 2014)

Lost Frequencies - Are You With Me (#1, 2014) (a bit loose, but it's just a remixed version of a 2012 song by Easton Corbin!)

Little Big Town - The Breaker (#65, 2017)

Megan McKenna - High Heeled Shoes (#43, 2017)

Megan McKenna - Far Cry From Love (#53, 2017)

Gabby Barrett (feat. Charlie Puth) - I Hope (#84, 2021)

Zach Bryan - Something in the Orange (#70, 2022)

I've heard a few of Luke Combs' songs from keeping up with Hot 100 entries in the last year and a bit (and at least heard short clips of his older hits as well) and I can't say I've exactly liked any of them but 'The Kind Of Love We Make' is definitely the worst one and one of the worst country hits of the last year full stop. I will be weeping if it outpeaks 'Something In The Orange'.

I’m intrigued as to what is pushing Luke Combs’ song to chart over here, as far as I can see it hasn’t gone viral on TikTok.

Edit: never mind, it is TikTok! It’s just someone’s reupload rather than the original audio.

What an AWFUL song. Hopefully it follows a similar progression to that Gaby Barrett thing that threatened to do something a while back.
'I Hope' is a masterpiece!!!!!!!! (The solo version ONLY! Boo to Charlie Puth!)

Luke does have pretty good residual streaming here anyway (I remember being shocked at how high his album sales were the last time Music Week gave an update) so he was probably bound to chart with something eventually.

Morgan Wallen has a new album out in a few weeks, I wonder if he's built enough... 'notoriety' let's say for any of his album tracks to impact here. Definitely expecting it to do pretty huge numbers in the US (especially as it has even more songs than his last album which was explicitly marketed as a 'double album' :')) although hopefully Miley will still be doing well enough to block him from getting a #1 song at least.

Yeah Luke is pretty big here as far as country artists go, he’s playing the O2 twice (to 40k people if they both sell out) later this year.

More than 33?

actually yes, he posted a while ago his new album has 36 songs :D

EDIT: found this on Billboard:

Wallen explained that the album "brings together the musical influences that have shaped [him] as an artist – country, alternative and hip-hop" and the album ended up with 36 songs "because [they] just kept exploring with fresh lyrics, music and production ideas and these are the songs that felt right" to him

I like I Hope as well. It doesn't sound like a country song to me though, it sounds more like a Kelly Clarkson song.

Sugarland - Stuck Like Glue (#74, 2011)

The Band Perry - If I Die Young (#82, 2012)

These two deserved better, two of my favourite contemporary country songs. I charted them both in my top three (simultaneously) in 2010 so they certainly took a while to make a small splash here.
