Every snippet I’m hearing is just not filling me with much hope of me enjoying this era. It’s quite frustrating because she has had instances in the past where she’s struck gold but there’s just a distinct lack of growth for me to really invest in her.

I’ve mentioned this previously but during the mid to late 00s we really struck lucky with the pop females who were up and coming / those who were the main females at the time and when you compare her to likes of say Taylor or Gaga who I’d say were her main contemporaries there’s just no comparison to the versatility and artistry and how theyve adapted and switched genres etc, like the likes of Miley too and Beyoncé have also had that continual freshen up of their sounds (and Rihanna always did this too when she was more active). Katy’s really just stuck and at a point in her life where she’s now a mother this could’ve been a real moment artistically (I mean I wasn’t expecting a Ray of Light) but even as someone who’s not necessarily a major fan of hers I did expect Katy to at least provide a catchy enough chorus but what we’ve had haven’t even had that.

The only person I think who has served triumphantly with a song sounding fresh and still has that 2010 feeling is Kesha. Joyride really should be flying high everywhere. I mean it still has more streams than Woman's World and Lifetimes combined so there's something. Taylor I would argue has that much versatility but she targets a very specific auidence and it works, Beyonce pops in and goes away again she was lucky Texas went viral as nothing else stuck, but I dont really feel there is much of.a univeral love for her. Gaga to early to tell but I think she's on for a monster of an era

It's not even lack of growth, it's regression imo. None of the music so far in this era compares to anything on Prism even, not to mention TD, and that's something.

Not feeling much excitement about this era so far. Woman’s world was ok but lifetimes was boring.

I still can't get over the Double Trouble sample!!

She needs ro go to unknown, inventive producers, who usually work with indie artists, to come back with something totally unexpected. There are better producers out there than Dr. Some are just unknown and not famous.

She coulf have released something similar to Espresso, but she came back with rehashes of her older stuff.

Very little... she is also teasing a tour on her social media and yet no announcement. They will probably announce it after the VMA medley but still... it's taken so long.
What I don’t get is she was getting 200k+ likes on her tweets about new songs only a month or so ago, so there was clearly some enthusiasm for new music or a comeback but inevitably it was never going to work. I will be very surprised if she gets top 3 UK or US

Perhaps the best thing she's done so far this era. She gave a great performance at the VMAs!!

Dark Horse and E.T was a slay the rest of the medley is a bit meh. One That Got Away is the one that got away x

Still no word about the tour... there are loads of artists already selling tickets to spring/summer 2025 - the longer it takes the less interest there will be.

I presume she’ll get a bit of promo in Australia for this next week.

She’s performing at the AFL Grand Final and whilst she’ll probably only perform one from the album it may still give it a boost for its second week.

Ouch this album is not enjoyable. I was excited for it despite the singles I, thought there would be some gems, but... nope. If I had to pick favourites they'd be Crush and Gimme Gimme at a stretch. Actually think Lifetimes is the best track overall.
Gorgeous is the only one I kind of like… the rest is terrible.

Disappointing.

What's striking to me is that a lot of these tracks don't suit her vocal. Like they aren't actually written for her. A voice like Sabrina's, breathy and light would work a lot better on Gorgeous for example. Katy's voice is quite specific and it needs tracks that are more melodic where she can belt or more understated like Harleys or Bon Appetit.

Given Luke is the producer in common I would bet money on Gimme Gimme for example being a track Doja rejected. It would suit her vocal a lot better down to the spoken (/rapped) verses. Whereas Crush and Gorgeous sound like Kim Petras tracks.

Production is awful vocal production is awful lyrics are awful. I like Lifetimes a lot but think that's an anomaly as this is truly horrendously horrific.
