Thanks ! Very bad for Ava, but not surprising.
When meeting Raye last night at her Birmingham album signing and gig she said that Shania is under Raye's old label so her worry is they will go to any effort to stop her getting the number one

LOL! As if her old label would care enough to try and sabotage her.

It's also factually not true. Shania is under EMI. Raye was signed to Polydor. :coffee:

Bar Giddy Up, the album is pure pop (even Giddy Up is arguably more pop than country). Not surprised it isn’t doing as well in America considering it isn’t the sound she is known best for there.

I think it's more that it's just easier for albums without strong streaming support to get #1 in the UK than the US.

When meeting Raye last night at her Birmingham album siging and gig she said that Shania is under Raye's old label so her worry is they will go to any effort to stop her getting the number one but said how grateful she is for all that have brought & streamed as she never imagined it could be doing as well as it is. She was so so lovely.

She actually said that? This whole thing has really turned me sour on Raye. Ed Sheeran levels of desperation for a chart position, she is not the only artist who’s been wronged. Now she really thinks it’s a grand conspiracy against her involving Shania?

Anyway I got the pink Queen of Me vinyl in HMV today for £19.99 then just ordered the CD on Amazon, used my £5 credit so only spent £0.99 :D

Ed Sheeran once again catching strays in a situation that has precisely nothing to do with him, BuzzJack being BuzzJack

(also I don't think she's claimed she's the only person who's ever been in a shitty record deal? weird take but ok)

Haven’t you ever heard of a comparison?

And I never said she did but most others don’t claim to be victims of a non-existent conspiracy to stop their future projects from reaching an arbitrary chart position

Shania making a surprise visit to Fopp/HMV in Covent Garden today to sign their stock and also was on Radio 2, Virgin Radio, and Capital Radio today - her promo trail in the UK has been spot on

Fawwk ME Shakira has had some work done since the split !! Midlife crisis?? Canae barelt recognise the lass!!! Man ALIVE!!!!

Surely she knows Spanish songs don't do well in UK, and Despacito was all down to Beiber having the music sheep on board at the time?

Haven’t you ever heard of a comparison?

What about this RAYE situation is even remotely comparable to anything Ed Sheeran has ever done? (Besides Ed being the go-to lazy comparison point for when we here on the chart forum want to criticise any artists who acknowledge the charts for being "desperate" which I always find a bit odd).

For what it's worth I agree that it's a bit far-fetched that UMG (?) would be specifically pulling out stops to block RAYE from #1 out of spite (I'm sure it's just that they want their own artist to be #1, although judging by you categorising #1 as an 'arbitrary chart position' I suppose you think the labels are Ed Sheeran level desperate for caring about that as well) so if she really did say that then sure that's a bit silly but it feels like a reach to have this kind of reaction to it is all. Especially as this is not even a public statement she's made, as far as I can tell it's literally just a comment she privately made to one person at a meet & greet.

They do care, trust. The head of RAYE’s old label phoned the council to try and get the promo display she had near P*lydor’s headquarters taken down.

EMI & P*lydor are both under Universal.

I'm just glad there's only one subsidiary label that's done anything paramount to being cancelled, otherwise it'd be a lot harder to listen to music!
RAYE getting blocked from #1 on both charts is a bummer but #2 is still great, hope M21CB can rise though
bit disappointed in Raye's comments, she was always gonna lose and she knew it so why drag Shania into that, be a good loser!

Have you any proof? The last few pages of this thread have really fallen down a weird rabbit hole of chart conspiracies.

Some people have some really weird and quite frankly blizzard and put of touch takes, even rude, about Raye :/

She has fought tirelessly for almost the past decade (I think 7 years?) To get in a position where she is able to release music she loves and is passionate about, and her album showcases her struggles perfectly. So yes, she is fighting for a #1 and yes she is bitter about the label doing her wrong....I don't see any bad in that and it's not even just about HER, it's about a lot of independent/smaller artists who have been f***ed over by their label to give them a voice, a lot of the industry has been v supportive of her. No, she's not the only one to be screwed over by a label but she is just one of the ones who is being more vocal about it and speaking out! Others have, you just probably haven't heard about them and they are likely similarly bitter about their deals - JoJo, Mabel, Gracey, Zara, Mahalia have all made comments about being in similar situations.

I just think do your research before commenting and making weird remarks, she even said she will be thankful for #2 but if she has a chance to be #1, then she will absolutely fight for it. You don't have to like her or her music, but to belittle what she's been through is just so odd to me but then this is BuzzJack.

Well put Jack! My exact sentiments.

It's also nice to have a chart battle where both artists are putting a fight, it's the first time in a while I've been checking the thread throughout the week. They've both done incredibly well no matter who comes out on top.

Raye could have put in a much better fight if her team had produced more physicals - the vinyl and CD is literally sold out most places and has been for quite a bit of the week, Universal/EMI fighting for the #1 is nothing new - what they are doing this week they do most weeks - price cuts, signed versions, signings etc., if Raye had produced sufficient stock she could have done the same and put in a real challenge rather than blaming her old record company.
