Since there is a A*teens thread I thought I'd make one for allstars as well since they got their music career off the ground from being a children's TV show and released some pop bangers!

Such an amazing band

Things That Go Bump In The Night is an iconic song, from an iconic film (especially the casting of the film).

I bought that, Land of Make Believe & Back When. I wish they had released more, but they weren't big enough to be kept on.

Anyone also remember Micro Soap - the programme the lead singer was in before AllStars?

For some reason the link to 'Best Friend' won't link properly so tagged a TOTP performance instead lol.

Anyway I remember watching the show on CITV back when it was on and recall enjoying that. 'Best Friend' was the song they did on the show which was a fun track but they did surpass it with 'Things Go Bump In The Night' & their cover of Bucks Fizz's 'Land Of Make Believe'. Pretty sure I've heard one or two of their other singles too but my memory is cloudy in that regard

Pretty sure I got the CD to one or two of these at the time as well.

They were a fun group. Shame the TV show ended up being cancelled cause they had split up after over 1 year though.

Not sure got any clips to share?

Although a lot of Bucks Fizz fans dismiss the cover of Land of Make Believe, I thought it was really good.

I remember a tabloid reporting they had been dropped "after releasing a cover of a Bucks Fizz song", like it was some nail in the coffin, when actually Land OMB was allSTARS* biggest hit.

I thought the cover was alright as well - considering the original wasn’t that fab in the first place!

The original was a "Shoulda-been-Christmas-No.1" classic of the 80's!!!

Haha now that’s true!

'Things That Go Bump... ' is such a tune, and the only one I even give the time of day in all honesty.

I'd like it to become a proper Halloween staple someday.

Things That Go Bump In The Night is a great track, I think it suffered a little from poor/unfortunate timing on three counts.

One, it was released on 10th September 2001 (I remember because it was the same day as Set You Free 2001) - I'm not sure the mood for uptempo cheesy pop was at its highest during that week really for obvious reasons, might have cost it quite a lot of sales ultimately. Secondly, it felt very Chieron 1999/2000 in style and pop was gradually moving away from that style, see the Britney/*N Sync changes in sound at the time, so it felt ever so slightly dated on release. Thirdly, why was it not released at Halloween - being promoted as such a release could have overcome the other factors. The track is their shining opus though and I'm glad it's taken on a mini new life as a cult Halloween song.

I actually really liked Best Friends, as corny as it was, and was so shocked when it debuted at No.20, I thought it was on lock for the top five!

My sister bought their album, I can't imagine many other people did, sadly.

Look at what the top 2 was that week though

Honestly, they should've probably held off on it either for Halloween (but I don't think Halloween szn was really as much a deal back then as it is now) or waited until Scooby-Doo: The Movie had it's release! Although that was Summer 2002 iirc. So maybe too long?
I don’t have any strong opinions or memories of this group. They were around the same time as Hear’Say and Liberty X and they just seemed to be overshadowed by those groups, but they only really released one song I cared about which was The Land Of Make Believe but I didn’t really care for anything else.
  • 1 month later...

allSTARS* is my favourite group from those good old days.

From non-singles I adore "Greatest Love Story" and "Lovecats".
