February 23, 20233 yr It's gone viral on tiktok I think, but also the main outlet where it's doing good is Amazon, went up to #2 again :/ not doing so well on the other otuleets, thats why I think it will miss when the Spotify data is added, which should benefit Ceilings over GGG

Has there been a physical reissue as it’s appearing higher than Number Ones normally would (higher than it was on the Monday update even)? Interesting indeed! Number Ones is a single album, whereas The Essential is a double. As well as MJ hits, the latter also features several hits by the Jackson 5/Jacksons, so perhaps this is helping chart-wise? I'm not aware of any physical reissue, so don't really understand why Number Ones has been replaced on the chart midweek by The Essential.
February 23, 20233 yr I gave this a listen, it's not a bad tune but what is it with all these current singers putting on this same weird affected voice rather than just SINGING the song? Far less than singers like Mimi Webb and Tate McRae. You can understand what she is singing about for one thing. It's a funky song that went viral months before the release and I like it. I guess it is probably just higher because the more expansive tracklist means its top 16 songs have a higher streaming tally than those on 'Number Ones' (that has only 18 songs in total so easy to imagine it's missing at least one big hitter).

I wonder if the catalogue streams still get applied to highest pure seller unless the label request they go to a particular compilation? Though I'm sure we would have seen a switch between the two compilations before now if that was the case. FYI, 'The Essential' was consistently shifting ~1k per week in 2022, presumably that's from streams for songs that appear on 'The Essential' but not 'Number Ones'.

February 24, 20233 yr Looks like the physical release isn't until April, I imagine it'll chart then - any chance of it charting on streaming/downloads alone was probably spoiled by it being released on a Tuesday!
