I LOVE the talky bit *.* first time I saw the video too, quite some budget spent on it.

The BBC’s Eurovision spend going through the roof.

I know nothing about Eurovision, but this song is OK. Seems like TAP want to push the artist and this is the perfect springboard. I suspect this is more about Mae Miller the artist, rather than winning it. I can't see any way the BBC would want to host so soon again, but I think we clearly want a Top 10 finish. I've no idea if it is, but it's got a good hook to it and I can see them going down the Insta/TikTok route. Not sure if that is the current dynamic for Eurovision mind, but I'd like to think TAP know what they're doing.
It improves on each listen for me and the video is good also. I think it's possible it won't be last at all. Sounds like a mid table if anything.
The video is great but are phrases like “cuss you out” really going to translate? It comes across as a Brit-friendly chart hit in the UK not a Eurovision smash across countries that aren’t the UK.

I don't think that sort of thing will even matter that much, "you got me pelican fly-fly-fly" and Chanel being booty hypnotic with a body like a mango weren't exactly lyrical masterpieces. Not to mention, there's a ton of songs in Eurovision with lyrics you don't understand due to them being in languages you can't speak.

I do get the point that it feels very Brit-centric and not translating but you know what, have we not been asking for that for like decades? Something representing our musical landscape rather than sending some Melodifestivalen reject by an X Factor bootcamp eliminee.

I must admit hearing the whole thing and a couple of listens it's not as bad as I first assumed. It gives me Little Mix album track, 'Cut You Off' meets 'Is Your Love Enough?', meets 'Not A Pop Song'.
Not that they're really its target audience at all but my parents, who I've sometimes used as a focus group for your 50+ "normy" demographic, absolutely hated this.
The video is so good, I’m sad it counts for nothing

It’s had almost half a million views in 14 hours on the official ESC channel so hopefully it’ll help European get on board with the song.

Mine did too!!

This song is not it. And when we're the host nation for the last ever time!! Imagine the MOMENT Ellie and Calvin woulda been :P

After sitting with this all day, I definitely don’t think it’s the disaster that I thought it might be this morning. I feel like the reaction is mixed but not actually as bad as I thought from a lot of the Euro fans.

I think it’s all to do with the performance and staging. If they stage it brilliantly, and she actually manages to pull off some charisma and choreo I can see it managing the 13-17 region. If they can’t find a way to make the performance a moment I can see this coming 18-22nd.

I don’t see this as being a bottom 3 entry either way, and defo don’t see it being a top 12 sadly.

It will ultimately come down to staging with his this performs on the night. The song is very euro dance still so although not groundbreaking, I can see it still being received well. Better than most our acts from the past 10 years at least.

This song is fine but I feel like it's missing something. It's a bopper but it's not a banger and it could get overshadowered by other entries that will elevate in Liverpool. The pre-chorus is the strongest part and the rest is so basic and generic.

I won't compare Mae to Sam but it's a step down from SPACE MAN and LOSE MY HEAD in terms of songwriting

My worry is UK fans will overestimate their chances. I've already seen people discredit SPACE MAN as a weak song which is false. Sam turned a well-written pop song with soaring stadium-ready chorus about loneliness into an anthemic power ballad, grabbed the hearts of Europe in the process and made it a potential winner. TaP Music and the BBC didn't do that. He did.

I would place I WROTE A SONG from 15th - 21st at the moment.

I've sat with the track for a day, and I've returned to it again this morning. It's still dirge. Still so poor. Still, a generic, Little Mix-reject kinda track. And the Artist holds no interest at all. Zero charm.

We had a GREAT opportunity to showcase something really special, and they came up with this. Just so so disappointing.

The BBC has placed too much reliance on TaP Music, who are clearly trying to push a mediocre artist rather than a great song, or even a song that has a chance of finishing in the top 15. An artist like Raye (someone who broke free from this generic crap) would be my choice. But not this.

2024, we need to jettison TaP and rethink.

I can’t @ how much I’ve U-turned on this in 24 hours, I fully can’t stop playing it.

I realise I am not a good judgement on how this will reflect on other people because I have a notoriously trashy taste.

SO disagree that we need to abandon TAP Music off the back of this, whether you like it or not, it’s more professional than anything we’ve sent since… I Can, other than Spaceman of course.

Good start on streaming - #56 on Spotify and Top 50 on Amazon and Top 100 on Apple.
Amazing start on Spotify! Must at least challenge for a top 40 debut with New Music Friday effect coming in today.
