March 15, 20232 yr I have listened to this a good few times and am enjoying it too. It’s basic pop and it’s best. 🤷♂️
March 15, 20232 yr After 3 listens it’s a 6/10 for me, but that’s more than I’d give about 3/4 of our entries this century. Actually it’s gone up to a 7/10 with more listens. The only ones this century I definitely prefer are Sam, Blue and Jessica. Broadly agree with the consensus ranking for the last 10 years.
March 15, 20232 yr 10/10 Sam Ryder - Space Man 9/10 Mae Muller - I Wrote a Song Molly - Children of the Universe 7/10 Joe & Jake - You're Not Alone James Newman - Embers Lucie Jones - Never Give Up On You 6/10 SuRie - Storm Bonnie Tyler - Believe in Me 5/10 Electro Velvet - Still in Love With You 3/10 Michael Rice - Bigger Than Us Edited March 15, 20232 yr by gooddelta
March 15, 20232 yr Electro Velvet is the worst song I’ve ever heard possibly. How anyone can hear that and put it above any of our other entries is beyond me.
March 15, 20232 yr I unironically love Josh Dubovie's entry lol. It is bad, but it's catchy af - it's a shame it's not on Spotify!
March 15, 20232 yr Amazing 1 Mae Muller - I Wrote a Song (early days I know but it was super instant and I can guarantee I'll get more mileage out of the studio version of this track, while SPACE MAN was elevated by its staging) 2 Sam Ryder - SPACE MAN Good 3 Joe & Jake - You're Not Alone Fine 4 Lucie Jones - Never Give Up On You 5 Molly - Children of the Universe 6 SuRie - Storm 7 Bonnie Tyler - Believe in Me Meh 8 James Newman - Embers 9 Michael Rice - Bigger Than Us One of the worst things I've ever heard 10 Electro Velvet - Still in Love With You
March 15, 20232 yr Electro Velvet is the worst song I’ve ever heard possibly. How anyone can hear that and put it above any of our other entries is beyond me. This!
March 15, 20232 yr I forgot what Electro Velvet sounded like so just gave it a listen. I can see what we were thinking, putting such a gimmicky song into Eurovision... but it's pretty flippin awful, innit!!
March 15, 20232 yr Why did Electro Velvet sing “deh deh deh deh” instant of dance dance dance dance at the start? And why did the guy sing “bound to get sneezing” rather than “bound to get sneezes”?
March 15, 20232 yr For what it's worth... 10/10 Children Of The Universe (LOVE this song... shame she didn't come alive on stage) 09/10 SPACE MAN (Eurovision edit is better than the standard version, and then probably creeps to a 10 with the performance!) I Wrote A Song (potential to grow further) 08/10 Still In Love With You (possibly one of the worst songs I've ever heard... but the strings regularly lodge themselves in my brain...) 07/10 Embers You're Not Alone Storm 06/10 Never Give Up On You 00/10 - remind my self of these every year, always seem like a new song, oops Believe In Me Bigger Than Us Love Will Set You Free Edited March 15, 20232 yr by Juranamo
March 15, 20232 yr Author Electro Velvet best of our entries in the 21st century prior to 2022 no exaggeration
March 15, 20232 yr 100% It really had the potential to do well, but thd performance and staging weren't it on the night
March 15, 20232 yr 01 Sam Ryder - Space Man 02 Mae Muller - I Wrote A Song 03 James Newman - Embers (actually a decent bop, of course it was terrible live) 04 Lucie Jones - Never Give Up On You 05 Molly - Children Of The Universe (great song but only really half there, it always feels like it’s a second draft demo or something) 06 Electro Velvet - Still In Love With You (abjectly terrible to a point you have to honour its genius and at least it’s memorable) 07 Bonnie Tyler - Believe In Me (absolutely fine as a Bonnie Tyler album track but like… I would never listen to a bonnie Tyler album track out of choice lmao) 08 Surie - Storm (utterly bland and generic but nothing wrong with it as such) 09 Joe & Jake - You’re Not Alone 10 Engelbert Humperdinck - Love Will Set You Free 11 Michael Rice - Bigger Than Us (even early 00s Westlife wouldn’t touch this with a bargepole)
March 16, 20232 yr Mae #25 in todays mids so safe for a Top 40 - 27 years since we last went into the contest with the entrant being a Top 40 hit (Gina G).
March 16, 20232 yr Unpopular opinion, but I love Bigger Than Us. I still listen to it regularly. 🤷♂️

March 16, 20232 yr Mae #25 in todays mids so safe for a Top 40 - 27 years since we last went into the contest with the entrant being a Top 40 hit (Gina G). Shows how much the attitude of the general public in the UK has suddenly changed towards the contest, thanks entirely to Sam Ryder and the BBC team giving it their all last year. Honestly, give Brits a taste of success in something and loads of people suddenly forget about their old outdated prejudices. See also women's football thanks to our brilliant women's team winning the World Cup last year, its stock has never been so high. It's mad that the last time we took a top 40 hit into the contest was three decades ago (excluding a few that charted just one or two weeks before the show, Like Daz Sampson), but I'm happy we will be sending an existing hit single - however small - into the contest. Baby steps, if they carry on with this trajectory then maybe in a few years we'll be sending in a big top ten hit again.
March 16, 20232 yr I couldn't remember Bigger Than Us by Michael Rice, so I had a listen and wondered why everyone was saying it was so bad... it appeared to be a bit of a bop to me... Then realised I was listening to the 7th Heaven Remix. They should have gone to Eurovision with that... it was much more suited. Then had a listen to that Engelbert Humperdink entry... my God... what were we thinking? Edited March 16, 20232 yr by ChrisJK
