UK Chart Run: 1-1-1-2-1-1-1-2-3-4-6-5-11-12-18-27-34-40-52-61-75-X-32-62-73-X-68 (25 weeks)

Just missing the top half is New York rapper Sean Combs, under one of his many monikers as Puff Daddy. Combs made his UK chart debut a few months earlier with the top 20 single Can't Nobody Hold Me Down but his follow-up went stratsopheric, entering at #1 and going on to become the longest-running chart-topper of the year with 6 non-consecutive weeks, broken only by the ultra-hyped Oasis comeback single D'You Know What I Mean? The song heavily samples The Police's 1983 #1 Every Breath You Take, which had not been sought permission prior to release, and was an ode to hip hop legend Notorious B.I.G. who had been murdered earlier in the year. B.I.G.'s surviving wife Faith Evans was a featured vocalist on the track along with fleeting R&B boyband 112.

A very strong top 5 indeed.

I expect this song to ultimately win but alas I'm giving Torn its first vote of the entrie survivor so far.

Edited by Dobbo.

Going for 'Spice Up Your Life'.

Despite voting it in the ultimate 2's thing I'm tempted to vote out 'Torn' soon too as Aqua and Chumba are good nostalgia tunes and then 'Don't Speak' is a classic too!

Aqua - its great fun, and i absolutely have fond memories of a few years back when a karaoke effort of a young couple of Barbie Girl reduced me to helpless crying with laughter, doesnt happen very often, but they switched the boy/girl roles and the lad was shrieking falsetto. So unexpected and one of my greatest pub moments in Gran Canaria.

But i prefer t'other 4 on the whole...

Eh it's a pretty mid top 5 for me - 'Torn' and 'Tubthumping' are great, 'Barbie Girl' and 'Spice Up Your Life' fun enough but not exactly faves, and 'Don't Speak' I remain steadfast in being the only voter for, was just subjected to it on the radio a few moments ago and I still hate it x
Spice Girls again - starting to get my hopes up I can vote for something else next time, namely Torn!
The Spicey ones now, quite close between them and Aqua though. The rest are classics <3
the terrible Spice Girls song again
Also Chumbawamba - Tubthumping... it's the only song left here that I wouldn't actively choose to listen to.
