Feel Like I Am Dreaming default_monkey.png

So impressed with this album on first listen! Title track works so well as a closer. LOVE Goodbye and The Darkness You Fear, and the extra mixing No Reason and Live Again got

I had this on earlier today and was impressed! I'd say it is their best in a while, and that includes their last one which wasn't too bad either. I haven't figured out which tracks are which yet as I listened on the commute to work but there wasn't a track I didn't enjoy

From Music Week:

The Chemical Brothers’ 10th studio album in a chart career spanning 28 years - and their first release since No Geography opened at No.4 (9,809 sales) in 2019 – For That Beautiful Feeling debuts at No.6 (6,327 sales) for the veteran dance duo. Six of their previous studio albums reached No.1, while 2010 release Further didn’t chart at all because all formats furnished buyers with the opportunity to enter a ‘golden ticket’ competition, with 10 iPads and USB sticks as prizes, and competitions of this type are expressly forbidden by OCC chart rules. Despite peaking at No.9, Chemical Brothers’ 1995 debut Exit Planet Dust is their second biggest-seller with to-date sales of 394,866, trailing only 1999 smash Surrender – home to the hits Hey Boy Hey Girl, Let Forever Be and Out Of Control – which has sold 636,580 copies.

A music video for Skipping Like a Stone is on the way. They released a teaser for it the other day

Given this a spin this morning, I was a little worried about this one as I wasn't a massive fan of 'Skipping Like A Stone' or the title track although I did love 'No Reason' and I missed 'Live Again' until now but belatedly listened to it on its own before the album and that's actually my favourite of the singles, the synths remind me of 'Swoon' which is my fave song by them

I think the album starts way, way stronger than it finishes - the first two singles as mentioned are both great and then 'Goodbye' is fantastic too, easily my favourite album track and on par with if not better than 'Live Again', love the darker sound  nothing after that really lives up to that opening 3 song run unfortunately but other standouts were 'The Weight' (sounds like a proper 90s big beat throwback) and 'Magic Wand' (a bit of a shame this is practically an interlude but then tbf I wasn't super desperate for it to be any longer), plus I really liked the instrumental of 'Feels Like I Am Dreaming' but I did find the vocal repetition a little on the jarring side and that's the case again for the title track which is my least favourite song and unfortunately ends the album on a whimper (the intro used the same vocal snippet but sounded much better!) 'The Darkness That You Fear' is also good ofc but I think I did prefer the single version, and 'Skipping Like A Stone' has grown on me but still not one of my big highlights.

Overall solid album and better than I feared but I do think, aside from the opening 3 tracks which are incredible, it's a bit of a step down from 'No Geography'.

Just realised they also dropped a B-Side to 'No Reason' that wasn't on the album, note to self to check that out later as I also missed that one
