I'm going to shuffle the UK top 40 hits of the 00s Spotify playlist and see what it comes up with. :magic:

For the first pairing we have

25/05/2002 Heartless Crew The Heartless Crew Theme 21 {21}-43-70->3

A forgotten UK garage song clearly and well yeah this deserves to stay put in the bargain bin. A blatant attempt to recreate So Solid Crew I guess.

vs.

19/03/2005 My Chemical Romance I'm Not Okay (I Promise) 19 {19}-46-72->3

This was the first hit single for iconic rock band MCR, although I had not heard of them until 'The Black Parade' as I didn't follow the chart closely at the time. Still one of their most remembered songs though and it is a banger.

An easy decision here, I put my money on BLACK.

Do you have any memories of the following songs and where is your money going on today's roulette wheel spin.

I have no knowledge of the first track.

I’m not keen on MCR as a whole but Teenagers is an epic track!

I was a bit commercial on the MCR front too as I didn't get into them until the next era but 'I'm Not Okay' is decent and I'm definitely picking black over red here. That Heartless Crew thing is a bit crap really.

MCR :wub:

I was late to the party with the band, only really getting into them when The Black Parade came around, but I'm Not Okay is a popular one/fave fave!

I'll go with MCR I have ZERO recollection of that first song... like... at all!? Lmao :\

09/09/2006 Supafly Inc Moving Too Fast 23 72-{23}-37-48-68-65-72->7

A forgotten dance anthem which sampled Phil Collins (the synth riff rather than his actual vocals thankfully), this one certainly deserved to be a bigger hit and is well worth a revisit. It was one of two minor hits for them and is the slightly more remembered of the two.

vs.

03/05/2003 Macy Gray When I See You 26 {26}-37-55->3

I'd still only ever heard 'I Try' from her, that was her biggest hit by some distance in 1999 but she had a few others with this being her final chart appearance. It's nothing special and I'm not that fond of her voice but it's a cute enough song.

RED wins today's draw for me.

I love Moving Too Fast :heart: that's how you use a sample in a creative way! (Although we can question sampling a song about homelessness and putting it on a sprightly summer banger but watevs).

(I much preferred 'I'm Not Okay' to all the Black Parade era marerial)

Red for today, I think this song was around and charting at the time BuzzJack was newly incepted.

MCR for the first one!

Supafly Inc for the second, I bought that on single, I think the same day as Lucy by Jealousy or maybe the week before, and felt both were great summer dance anthems that I expected to do a lot better.

Red for me. Don't recall that Supafly song despite starting following the charts again that year and sounded pretty good, nice vibe to it and Macy's is ok but nothing special.

25/12/2004 Morrissey I Have Forgiven Jesus 10 {10}-28-36-48-71->5

Morrissey was seemingly very popular in 2004 with four top 10 hits, this being the lowest peaking and least remembered of these. And well it certainly is a Morrissey song that exists.

vs.

16/12/2006 El Chombo Chacarron 20 75-{20}-22-42->4

A reggaeton hit that went viral on the internet thanks to its nonsensical pseudo-Spanish lyrics and it appears Scott Mills tried to campaign for it to reach Christmas number one that year. El Chombo had another viral hit in the 2010s with Dame Tu Cosita but that didn't make the UK chart. It's a great novelty track to its credit and wins this match easily for me.

No contest there, definitely El Chombo!!

I've known it from the Internet but didn't realize Chacarron was an actual song, let alone a hit single until I joined Buzzjack years later. And I didn't know until now that it had a campaign for Christmas #1, that would have been incredible :lol:

12/08/2000 Wookie Featuring Lain Battle 10 {10}-19-18-30-35-52-74->7

Another UKG song today then although this one is a vast improvement from Heartless Crew Theme and considered a classic of the genre with its soul/gospel vocal. It was the only significant hit Wookie had with the follow-up scraping top 40.

vs.

01/05/2004 Oceanlab Satellite 19 {19}-29-38-49->4

Oceanlab are the project of Above & Beyond alongside vocalist Justine Suissa. The track remains a trance classic and is a lovely song. A bit of a shame that it was the only top 40 hit the A&B members ever had but they remain one of the biggest names in trance to this day. I suppose they were lucky it went as high as top 20 given this was 2004 and trance was on the way out commercially by then.

Best pairing we've had yet but Oceanlab have to win it really.

Both are good but surprisingly it's Battle for me, does remind me of the sunny summer of 2000, along with MJ Cole, Lonyo, B15 Project and various other low top 10 garage hits I've probably forgotten :lol:
