Goodbye was released in the wake of Geri Halliwell's departure from the band and was included on their third studio album Forever. Released in the winter of 1998, it continued the group's remarkable chart prowess by becoming their eighth #1 single from nine releases and their third Christmas #1 single in a row, at the time this feat had only previously been achieved by The Beatles. The girls would release one more #1 single a couple of years later before disbanding then eventually reuniting to rather less commercial success in 2007.
