 If we are going with that bloody Sophie Ellis Bextor being way behind Victoria Beckham until that last day somehow that vastly outselling her… FIX!!! (Groove jet is so much better though!)

I do think Groovejet's Saturday boost was as simple as Friday night clubbers going to the shops on Saturday having heard Groovejet on their night out. I can't imagine the cool clubs were playing Out Of Your Mind.

Dance music always sold well physically over the weekend I presume, as many dance songs outperformed their midweek positions by the time Sunday came around.

In terms of controversial No.1s, I agree with the very famous examples like Relax, plus the now controversial for different reasons in that they just wouldn't be played anymore (Two Little Boys, Glitter's trio, and have clubs left Ignition Remix alone now?), and the very sweary Eamon/Frankee songs. So many just missed out too, like Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead a decade ago this month.

But by the same token, I believe "House Every Weekend" would otherwise still be #1 if it didn't coincide with Spotify losing its data on that particular week.

Yes I think that's right, House Every Weekend had way more streams and was less front-loaded that week.

Sophie V VB was definitely fixed! Wasnt she close to 200,000 behind?

Most controversial number 1 has to be relax!

Ridiculous suggestion that Spiller Vs VB was fixed.

Gooddelta’s theory makes perfect sense.

There’s certainly been some injustices in the past when it comes to manipulation of the chart data. I’m sure it won’t be long before the next one happens.

What about more controversially explicit/subliminal #1’s from before 2010 say? I mean there’s been some excellent examples so far and I have learnt a few songs have hidden meanings that I didn’t realise before too.

C'est La Vie!

I'm surprised no one has yet ventured forth Robbie Williams - Rock DJ. Fairly obvious why that was a controversial number one, I remember all the big hype about the video being banned.
That was zero controversial, the video for Madonna-Like a Prayer was more controversial than that at the time

Rock DJ did have a controversial view but that song was always going to be no.1, it was such a huge song from the instant anyone heard plus it was a lead single for Robbie in his imperial era. It was more unlucky that the release schedules were so meticulously planned out in 2000 that he couldn’t manage more than a week.

I feel like in the longrun maybe 'Vienna' and 'Groove is in the Heart' have became more well-remembered for being famously prevented from reaching the top?

I never quite got the Joe Dulce/Ultravox situation. Dulce beat Ultravox fair and square right? It's just that people prefer Ultravox right?

Chart history has countless examples of crap no.1s keeping off great no.2s so why that one in particular?

No she definitely was nowhere near 200,000 behind.

I think you may be thinking of them finishing about 20,000 ahead? Either way, I can't believe for one second that the chart would have been wrong as I don't see why anyone would have done that - plus Groovejet stayed ahead for the entirety of the chart run of both so it clearly was the more popular song of the two. It's far more likely that a Spice Girls related single would have been very front loaded whilst dance singles were often skewed towards the end of the week - plus I remember there being a real media push that largely favoured Spiller and Sophie as being the underdogs who could potentially defeat a spice girl
