What would make the DNQ gets an AQ idea demoralising?

well it might be demoralising to the 20 people who might have qualified but now don't, and possibly at the expense of some good songs failing to make the final. It just reminds me of Junior Schools and "let's all have a turn, it's only fair for poor Charlie who tries SO hard to keep up..." :)

 

as Ive said many times, my first, what was it, 13 entries (?) all DNQ'd including my first which technically should have qualified on a tie-break (but didn't) and I didn't feel demoralised at all. Bemused, yes! :lol: Leww offered very kindly to give me some advice listening to potentials and I qualified. if it's that important to anyone to qualify, I'm sure there's volunteers who will help with advice, but TBH you do get a feel for what will do well after a while...and I've decided to go for a run of probable qualifiers over the last 3 contests cos my End Of Year's were looking grim with all the DNQ's recently. So obv one person each contest isn't qualifying lately because I am, which is fine because I really don't mind someone qualifying when I don't - enjoy it! I'll be back doing a run of DNQ's soon enough (I always do!) :lol:

Why would 20 not qualify?

 

My intention was an additional qualifier, in case that wasn't obvious.

I agree with Jonjo about taking breaks tbh, I dipped (well, I didn't vote and then got banned from the next contest hahaha) so many times from like 2017-2019 when I was super busy. And then I always came back in January feeling REVIVED and READY.

 

And now I'm a mod :lol:

 

Sometimes the idea of having to listen to 60 odd entries month after month is daunting - it is for me now, honestly, while I'm so full on with my job and outside of work things going on, but I have a qualification streak to protect!!

The whole DNQ > Q thing just feels like it’s a bit of a hand me down, no? Like, it’s a perk of winning (and also coming 2nd in certain months) etc.. and Idk it’s probably just me, but yeah, I just think it’s far more rewarding when you do eventually qualify after so long of DNQ’ing.

Sure, to my mind that the entire point, so as not to dishearten someone plus I love a twist!

 

Ultimately it is a game for fun after all imo

As someone who DNQed this month I definitely don't think we should be giving out AQs just for DNQing! The whole point of this contest surely is that it's about the songs not the people sending them, that idea would make it entirely about the people and make the actual songs totally meaningless. I do unfortunately think that in a contest based on ranking songs, it's by definition impossible for everyone to get the result they want, and we risk losing the fun of it.

 

I get that people will be disappointed after DNQing but ultimately it's nothing personal. And it doesn't mean people didn't like your song, it just means they had other songs they liked more. At the end of the day we're literally playing pretend Eurovision (no shade to the hosts and mods who of course do work very hard), and it's totally healthy to take a break if you're not enjoying it. I think it'd actually be incredibly unhealthy to engineer elaborate new systems in an attempt to prevent those who want to from taking a break.

As someone who's DNQ'd a lot recently, the only thing I'd be interested in trying is anonymous entries. The other things put out there either solve a problem that doesn't exist, or create new ones.
