September 8, 20231 yr Very diverse album, still a bunch of sour-esque ballads but lots of rock-y songs too, Get Him Back obvious next one, #1 on TTH but of course not added to HH
September 8, 20231 yr Really like the album!! Only songs I’m not enjoying are Lacy and Teenage Dream. All American Bitch and Making The Bed are my faves at the moment!
September 8, 20231 yr Debuts with a perfect score of 100 on Metacritic! --- It's a cute album. Again. I don't think I'll ever understand the *mass* hype surrounding her music, but it's a solid album. Kind of like the perfect counterpart to SOUR. She heard the criticisms about the first album and gave us more pop-rock songs and not quite as heavy on the ballads. It's a nicer ratio this time. I don't work at hmv anymore, so I don't think I'll get sick of hearing this album as it'll all be out of choice, which is a plus I guess  Looking forward to hearing it more and giving it time to settle. get him back! is a favourite of mine on first listen. A LOT of fun!
September 8, 20231 yr What did Sour open with for context? I think it will be higher than that for sure, she really has grown loads in popularitySOUR's opening figures: 1 Olivia Rodrigo 50,942 (Sales: 17,397 | Streaming: 33,545) --- This has a lot more variants and her name has grown since. But the market has collapsed quite a bit even since 2021... so I would probably say it won't be as high as it should be, but should still be high enough to record one of the biggest openings of the year. I'm going to guess 65k-70k-ish.
September 8, 20231 yr All American bitch and get him back are my favorites but a great album all round!
September 8, 20231 yr im honestly loving it! sour is still stronger imo but its a good one! all american bitch is amazing, love that guitar! and it really sounds like lorde on lacy! :o
September 8, 20231 yr First listen through and... wow. Absolutely blown away. I will formulate full thoughts on tracks in time but I am in LOVE on one listen. So many statements, introduction production moments, vocal moments, it has it all !!
September 8, 20231 yr I NEED UK TOUR DATES. THIS ALBUM IS SO GOOD! Realllll i tried so hard for her last tour but missed out to I want her to do more cos I desperately want to see herrrr
September 8, 20231 yr I don't think I'll ever understand the *mass* hype surrounding her music :cheeseblock: On top of that she just seems like an extremely immature, petty and frankly nasty person, wholly unlikeable as an artist to me personally. Very satisfying to see that people are actually questioning the lyrics on this album ('every guy I like is gay' in particular) and calling her out. She seems hell bent - in quite a few of her songs - on bringing very personal commentary about the other parties to the table in a way that hasn't ever been and probably won't ever be as nuanced, mature, clever or respectful like other artists manage to do successfully. I can only imagine how it must feel to sit down and listen to some of her songs as someone that's been heavily involved in her life and hear her making remarks about you being in therapy, your sexuality, and so on. Not for me. But I'll bow out of this thread now and let everybody else enjoy.
September 8, 20231 yr Honestly I'm loving this after just one listen, as a body of work it's miles above SOUR (which I only rly enjoyed the singles + brutal). Not sure anything's gonna surpass the three hit punch of drivers license - deja vu - good 4 u just yet but I'm sure a few will get there! Ballad of a homeschooled girl is immediately there standing out to me. I love that Olivia's delved deeper into different rock sounds rather than staying too close to her debut. As for the lyrics referring to specific people, I personally feel like all the songs are pretty easy to relate to and for the average person they're not outwardly referring to a specific person, obviously she had someone in mind when writing them but doesn't every songwriter?
September 9, 20231 yr I really hear shades of Marina in this (vocally more than anything else)! The best example I can give is on all American bitch particularly the closing parts “I’m grateful all the time, I’m sexy and I’m kind, I’m pretty when I cry” she sounds SO much like her on that. I often see Lorde comparisons to Olivia and I just don’t hear Lorde in her AT ALL (maybe it’s an age thing as they’re both young especially both debuting as teens and winning Grammys as teens with a big breakout anthem). I need to listen again properly to really delve in and give each individual track another listen my attention but from first listen I did like what I heard. Oddly enough lacy really stood out to me as a favourite of mine from the album tracks (but I tend to prefer the slower side of her to the more pop-rock). I also liked pretty isn’t pretty and logical. It’s not a million miles away from SOUR but it’s also not necessarily like SOUR deluxe either! The only slight niggle I’d say is I may have switched the album artwork to a different colour aesthetic but that’s not reflective of the sound itself.
September 10, 20231 yr I actually can’t stand this album which is sad as I really enjoyed SOUR - it seems very personal almost to a fault and I don’t think it showcases her in the best light.
September 10, 20231 yr I feel like this isn’t a step up from her debut at all, and she really needs to calm down a bit in the sense that the lyrics come across in an immature, “14 year old GCSE student experiencing their first breakup thinking they’re gonna be Taylor Swift” way and it’s a bit cringe. She won’t be able to get away with an album like this in future which leaves me interested in where she will go musically next.
September 10, 20231 yr It's very sour copy and paste. Not much development at all. However not complaining I love sour and she's still so young so this actually suits her. I don't get all the hate towards her personality. But this album in general is not as good as Sour. I've said it before every song she does sounds like you've heard it before. Lyrically she is good, sonically very copy and paste.
